Don't see why. When James Milner is being talked about in the same price range, this seems like a bargain.

Looks like City where extremely lucky to come away from White Hart Lane with a point. But for some top class goalkeeping by Joe Hart (why wasn`t he no1 at the world cup  ) the game w/c/should have been dead and buried by half time.
I can just see the headlines "City`s expensively assembled squad only take a point at spurs" or similar. Harry was playing pretty much the same team as finished last year and a group of new players need time to gel no matter how much they cost!

Dreading it. Our defense is still suspect and I think we're going to have serious problems today coping. I will be content with a draw, not a great game to start the season.

I honestly don't. If Arsenal would implode it would have happened last season.

So far

1. You've kept Fabregas
2. Van Persie is back fit
3. Dissent against Wenger disappeared and he's signed a new contract
4. Vermalen and Arshavin will probably excel
5. You've signed Chamakh who looks to be an excellent signing
6. You can do with a decent keeper but the situation isn't that dire
7. Your kids (Walcott, Vela, Nasri will al be better and re-enforce the squad)

Unless something really unforseen happens I can't see you finishing less than 3rd. Certainly not out of the top 4.

I don't buy it. I don't think City would sell a player to one of the teams they could theoretically knock out of the top 4, especially when that player would remove what is probably Arsenal's biggest weakness. Get a good keeper and Arsenal would be a much stronger force and certainly unlikely to drop out of the top 4.

Also I don't think he was dropped for the Spurs game, there is genuine competition for the No 1 spot at City and a lot of people think Hart has a better command of his area (incidentally one of our keeper's weaknesses).

Wenger was a butter-fingered fumble from explaining away a three-point deficit to Chelsea on the opening weekend. Until Reina’s mistake in the final minute the Liverpool goalkeeper had been stretched only by Rosicky. Wenger joked that he would know when it was time to go. He won’t. They never do. Ask Fabio Capello.
Arsenal playing away at Liverpool, Chelsea were playing West Brom at home. First game of the season.

Craig Bellamy has joined Championship side Cardiff City on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City.

Bet he has put their wage bill up considerably, if he can help them get up it'll be inspired more likely imo though he'll get injured a month or two in and end up costing them a fortune they dont have.

It wouldn't surprise me if Citeh were still paying most of his wages while he's on loan. They seem to want to avoid sending him on loan to a Premier League club. And it's not like they don't have the resources.

Its entirely down to what deals the chairmen do.

When O'Hara was at Pompey he was the only player there paid on time as we paid his wages. When Keane went to Celtic they picked up a "significant" proportion of his wages.

I'm guessing its free. Citeh don't need the money and Cardiff don't have any anyway.

BTW Bellamy is on stupid wages. Only Citeh would pay them (£95,000 a week)

There's no way Cardiff will be able to afford anything close to his wages, especially with a new (inferior) stadium to pay for. Don't forget they came close to administration last season over unpaid tax, hence us Swansea fans chanting at them, "You can't pay your tax and you'll never beat the Jacks". Word is some local businesses have helped pay his wage.

On another note, I've said it before and I'll say it again, what a waste.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

I liked this post from another site, given the current wave of doom sweeping over the club just one game in

10 reasons why we will be relegated if we lose to Bolton.

(1) The last time we lost our opening two games (2000-01) we were relegated (well, OK, we weren't, but I don't see why facts should get in the way of a good point, well made.)

(2) No team with 0 points after 2 games has gone on to avoid relegation.

Except Bolton, Blackburn and Everton last year

Spurs, Wigan and Pompey in 2008-9

Spurs, Boro and Bolton in 2007-8

Wigan and Pompey in 2005-6

Again, mere facts, and in no way relevant.

(3) The transfer window will be closed and we won't be able to make any more signings. (OK, OK, so there'll still be 10 days to go, but no one will be making any signings that close to the end of the transfer window...)

(4) Our new signings have turned out to be flops. Barrera, who ought to be match fit and used to the pace of the Prem after a couple of half matches and a brief run out looked anything but ready, and there's very little chance he will improve as he gets more match time. And as for that Hitzlsperger, well he may as well have been out injured for all the difference he made...

(5) Bolton are not in any way, shape or form one of our bogey sides, and the fact that they have managed to beat us 6 games in a row means that we're obviously better than them and 'should be beating sides like this'.

(6) In the seasons when we have lost to Bolton at the Boleyn we have been reelgated (again, not true, but I'm sure you get the picture...)

(7) No other team in the PL will have made such a poor start, and all the other teams in the PL will go on to amass 50 points or more, leaving us with about 6.

(8) With only 36 games left, we would have absolutely no hope of making up ground on those teams so far ahead of us.

(9) Gollivan will sack Grant if we lose, and The Scottish manager will be given the job, with Ian Dowie and Glen Roeder as his assistants.

(10) We have never previously made a bad start to a PL season and then gone on to avoid relegation (apart from when we have, obviously.)

Now, I know some of you optimistic types will try to argue me out of it, but I know I am right, and I know that King WHUFC will back me up on this.

Saturday is our season defining game.

Lose it, and we may as well say goodbye to the PL.

You know I'm talking (non) sense...

Samir Nasri is out for a month and now this:

Quote:

Arsenal's Emmanuel Frimpong ruled out for nine months

Arsenal have been dealt a second successive injury blow with the news the promising midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong will be out for most of the season after tearing his knee ligaments.

The 18-year-old – who was born in Ghana and who moved to London when he was nine – suffered the injury while training with the reserves in Dublin where the squad are taking part in a friendly tournament with Shamrock Rovers and Manchester United's second string.

The news was confirmed just a day after Arsenal announced the winger Samir Nasri will be sidelined for a month following minor surgery on his injured knee.

Frimpong, who helped Arsenal Under-18s win the Premier Academy League title last season, started alongside fellow teenager Jack Wilshere in central midfield for each of Arsenal's final three pre-season friendlies, against Milan, Celtic and Legia Warsaw.

Still, good player. Shame we couldn't do a deal with him, I imagine Spurs are offering more money or a longer contract since those were the sticking points for Arsenal. I was hoping we would sign him in addition to the other defender we are linked too in order to provide some cover.

Apparently wrong on both counts. It's only a 1 year deal and a lot less than what he was on. But it's a London club which suits him.

Intresting. He was demanding two year contract at Arsenal. Maybe season is coming out or he can be first team player?

Sorry, Typed that on my phone. I was wondering why he has now accepted less pay and a 1 year contract. Maybe the face the season is coming up or he wants more first team football.

I think having his bluff called by Wenger was chastening and now it's clear he isn't going to have that many offers. Maybe he thought some of the lower clubs with looser budgets may sign him as a flagship player. Or maybe he thought that we stand a good chance at playing in the CL and finishing 4th and so that turned his head.

I don't remember him being linked with anyone until Redknapp came along.

In the last two weeks, two different England Internationals have used high court injunctions to block details of their personal lives being released:

Makes me wonder who they are...

I think they both play at Chelsea myself.

Careful we don't get ourselves in trouble here ;)

It's more bad news for the England team though, so much of this nonsense.

I'm sure that invariably Gerrard's name will come up.

I find it a bit odd that there's a gagging order and reporting restrictions but the press know that the two cases are footballers?

Unless the reporters were in court for the case and saw them.

Some reports give details accounts of the 2nd player, that he 'played for many top clubs' and is on around £100,000 a week. So that narrows it quite a bit!

I don't usually post outright rumours but Anelka to Spurs seems to keep cropping up a lot lately. Doesn't mean it will happen but we appear to be trying. So Gallas might not be the only French ex-Chelsea, ex-Arsenal player who might be coming to Spurs. Suddenly him recommending us for the title doesn't seem too odd now.

I do stress this is a rumour though. Nothing solid just yet.

Surely Chelsea can't afford to get rid of a striker, if anything they need to add one to the squad.

Yeah but Anelka isn't young. And he's probably on stupid wages. Chelsea can have the pick of strikers in the world at the moment.

Mark Hughes has suggested that Arsenal may have been trying to intentionally unsettle Mark Schwarzer by repeating an offer for the goalkeeper that had already been turned down. The Fulham manager acknowledged Schwarzer had been distracted by the bids, both worth £2m, but remains hopeful that Fulham can keep hold of the player.
Quiet Hughes. First of all Arsenal have not made bids public or talked in public after this transfer both bids were confirmed by Fulham both times and not Arsenal.

Not only that but if Hughes is really bothered by 'unsettling players' should really examine his behaviour when signing Lescott last season amongst many others.

Hypocritical prat.

Being a Spurs supporter for over 30 years, l welcome Gallas to the Lane, he might have been a Arsenal player, but if he can do the stuff for us and get us winning big games and also stuff Arsenal, then l am all for it. Its when players leave us for the Arsenal, thats when l get angry, like Campbell, he claimed "it was a better club" he said.

Come off it Arthur, Pat Jennings when to Arsenal and always has been and always will be a legend. He even went back to the club afterwards.

The problem with Campbell was we made him the player he became and then denied us the £20m+ he was worth. The fact he deliberately put off signing a contract but saying he wasn't going to leave and then signed for Arsenal for free was the problem. If he was honest about leaving and we got a fair price then there wouldn't have been a problem. But then they money-grabbing so-and-so wouldn't have got his big signing-on bonus.

Back to Gallas though I don't know of anyone who has a problem with him being ex-Arsenal or ex-Chelsea. That's a media invention to show Spurs up to be stupidly fickle. The only ones I know do know don't want Gallas is because like Bellamy he's a toxic personality. And they've got a point, he is. But if he a can do a job for us (and he probably can) then he's welcome.

Also worth noting there was a similar reaction when we bough Woodgate after his previous nocternal indescretions but kept his head down, played well and is now a fan favourite. I think Redknapp has a point - a team of gentlemen won't win anything. Maybe you need a couple of *******s.

I don't think there's any chance we can hang on to Bale next season. He's been amazing so far.

Check out MOTD or 101greatgoals.com for his 2nd goal, absolutely top draw.

Walcott!

Was at the Arsenal game today, Walcott's crossing, pace, touch was all excellent! Hopefully he has gotten over that poor form he had last season.

Which stand where you at? I was in the lower tier of the new clock end so had that massive red banner over me at the start! :D The Blackpool fans were loud and up for it, credit to them. They never stopped singing.

As for goals, I was behind the end Arsenal attacked in the first half and it's not until your close when you see just how good some saves are. Their keeper stopped two great chances with pure reaction shots.

Yeh Yeh ;)

The lower tier sings but not with the same length and passion as some fans. Popular songs today involved 'you won't play here again' and 'We've Got Cesc Fabagas' :D

Upper tier, East stand. Though i pretty much missed the clock end unveiling! I just caught the very end.

Blackpool seemed a little awestruck, plus they were down to ten men for most of the match, something you Arsenal fans have failed to mention, however, a good result for you.

Not sure I agree with Wenger about Scholes having a dark side, maybe he needs to look at himself

Well Scholes clearly does commit some bad tackles now and then, more often than normal, I not sure many others would disagree with that.

Also so what about the 10 men? It's not like Arsenal were not bossing the game and were already ahead. I also don't think anyone is using the scoreline as a reason to be cheerful, more the fact that Walcott seems to have improved a lot over last years dreadful season.

"Now and then or more often than normal" ?

Scholes can't tackle for toffee, it doesn't mean he has a dark side.
I quite like Wenger, but at times he does talk some drivel.

35 year old world class midfielder and he still can't tackle? *******s. Wenger's opinion isn't anything new, there are many pundits, fans, players, journalists and whoever else who aren't naive enough to buy in to the whole "he can't tackle" charade. He can't tackle because he doesn't want to and that's part of his style, it's not some charming deficiency in his game. It is his game.

I find it quite funny that Wenger lavishes immense praise on Scholes and yet some people feel the need to pick up on the minor negative point Wenger also spoke of. Not unusual though i guess.
