So much for the excitment this morning, woke up, no Sports or Movies in HD. Looks like a call to CS is required:(

It seams they are launching them area by area you will have the channels at some point today.

Re: Who's signed up to sky hd channels?

Just had engineer here replacing our V+box with a new shiny samsung (nice box) and he does not know why we do not have the HD channels on yet. He phoned Virgin and they said it was on my account and will be on sometime in the next 24 hours and then phoned another engineer who said he was testing the channels and they are working fine, so he said give it 3 hours and phone customer services.

Just signed up online.

Weird but when I called they said £9 but online it states £7 per box

Hey ho....

Now I am waiting for it to be activated!

Re: Who's signed up to sky hd channels?

Mine are all working fine, but only after a call to CS this morning (about 10am).
The channels were assigned to my account but the message on screen stated that I was not subscribed....they simply sent a "signal" to my box...a quick re-boot and everything was fine.
Great quality....
I think £7 per month is good value....I watch lots of movies & all the football....
I suppose the £7 charge is worth it to some, not for others...
Personally I'm happy to pay for the amount of programmes available.

Agree, I am an avid sports follower and think back to the good old days of £12.99/£14.99 per match on prem plus....suddenly £7 a month for all the HD1 AND HD2 matches PLUS movies seems like a good deal ;)

VM always say up to 24 hours just to cover themselves hopefully in your case it will be a lot quicker then that.

When i have changed packages in the past its always only been at the most a couple of hours.

I'm glad now that I've downgraded my tv to one box for the bedroom on the M+ package and gone with Sky HD for downstairs as I now have all the Movies and Sport in HD and don't have to pay the £12 a month per box HD (£7 premium HD plus £5 V+HD charge) with VM which would go up to £14 a month, that's much more than Sky.

Despite my original thoughts i would not be ordering the HD channels i have now given them a try for a month i was switched on in 40 mins, and the test cricket repeat does look reasonably impressive on SSHD1,yes there is quite a difference in picture quality, but at least if i only take it until the cricket season is over shall see how it goes,£7 is pricey for just the two HD channels but there you go

Was about to sign up (HD Sport the main interest) until I saw the listings for opening weekend. If this is a sign of things to come then won't even be worth the £7 for me.

Inverness CT v Celtic HD4/SS3

Tottenham v Man City HD3/SS4

Hi, the listings at http://www.livesportontv.com/football/ are all wrong as they clearly say England v Hungary Friendly Football Match Setanta Ireland (20:00-22:00 Ireland Only) but it's on ITV1 & ITV1HD. Tottenham v Man City is certainly on Sky Sports HD2.

Re: Who's signed up to sky hd channels?

I was looking through the listings on skysports.com for live football, and it seems we have no worries about "important matches" (no offence to any fans at all ; but my lot are on twice before end of september so :PP:).
So hopefully Sky aren't gonna pull any dirty tricks after September, here's hoping :tu:

We signed up, and happy with it so far. Just finished watching The Terminator 2 and it was awesome quality.

Not happy in terms of cost, as we are on the VIP which is was designed to provide everything. However going by the big thread on it there might be some changes made to the VIP Plans. I am out of the 12 months for VM, so not too worried for now.

You are always safer and better off looking at the Sky Sports site really, saves confusion. I doubt Virgin would have not ignored the possibility of Sky putting bigger events such as footie on the 3/4 channels. I reckon they will have ensured in the contract that them tactics would not be used.

Ofcom have warned Sky on this... if they do ignore them, then they will make SS3/4 HD part of the "must offer" to VM

Hi

I ordered HD package + Sky Sports to be added to my present lot, Sky Movies etc two weeks ago and sports started straight away.
Come yesterday I still could not get Sky HD so a quick phone call sorted that out.
Whilst on the phone I mentioned rumour of extra charges coming in October and lack of difference between XL + L.
The lady said she could not comment on any future possible increases but hinted that XL was to be reviewed soon.

Without wishing the summer away I can't wait till Sept / Oct to see what will happen next.

Regards

It's now August 3rd and instead of watching Sky Sports and Movies in HD I'm still looking at "You haven't subscribed to this channel yet. but getting it is easy."

After saying I wouldn't pay the extra for the HD channels I've now signed up :erm:

Had a chat with the missus last night and we thought we'd give it a trial for a month to see if it was worth keeping. We bought a new TV about a month ago and have been blown away by the quality of the HD image over our previous set. It's encouraged us to watch a lot more films recently as the picture is so gorgeous to look at. Nothing to lose by trying it out for a month (apart from £7).

Will hopefully be checking out the HD picture tonight if the service has been activated, only signed up online last night.

Re: Who's signed up to sky hd channels?

Wasn't going to bother, but managed to tweak my deal with retentions this morning, who kindly removed my ancient V+ monthly charge of £10 with no need to splash out £49 (I'm on XL), and I binned my extra box for £5 so will be sending that back. retained my 'loyalty discount' so added HD - now have XL TV, L BB, Phone M, V+ and Sky Sports/Movies + HD for £79.99 all in. Very happy with that :)

And o my the cricket looks good :)

Well, 9.30 pm and still waiting for my Sky HD channels :(

2 phone calls from my wife to CS while I was at work, but no joy as yet.

I need it in time for the start of the footy season ;)

Re: Who's signed up to sky hd channels?

Well.....I've just signed up for Sky Sports Collection + HD.

Live football is my primary reason for staying on the Pay-TV bandwagon (my secondary reason is HD). Now that ESPN have lost half their EPL games for the next 3 seasons, I couldn't resist doing my bit to help feed those poor Premiership footballers. :erm:

I wasn't gonna do it at first. £7 for 2 Sports Channels? Plus another £20.50 on top of that for 4 SD Channels (two of which I'm never gonna watch if I have their HD equivalents). I must be mad.

Then I realised that the £27.50 per month for the Sports channels + HD was still cheaper than me paying by monthly direct debit for a season ticket to watch the City, who weren't exactly entertaining to watch last season (but I'm still looking forward to watching City vs Derby on SS3 ;)).

It took VM less then a hour to add the channels and I must say, the quality of the picture for the cricket on SS1HD is outstanding.

I may knock my XL broadband down to L just to compensate a bit and save some money. I'll probably leave my XL TV as is thanks to all the HD Basic Channels VM are throwing at us (didn't think I'd be typing that in a year ago! :D).

But at least the choice is there now for those who have waited for so long to have Sky Sports HD on Digital Cable, and for those who are able and willing to pay for it.

Looking forward to Red Button too.
