Thanks DF - I watched a recorded Dexter on FXHD, and that was okay. Not had chance to watch much else as we have been away for a few days.

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Just a little update for everyone ....
Our STB team are carrying out extensive testing in trying to find out what's causing the issue for some customers. Will update again in a few days time. |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Thanks DF - look forward to some news. Been away since thursday morning camping! not seen any tele, plenty of rain though:)

Hope you had a good time. :) Ok.. update... Initial testing has been inconclusive, so the team are now going to do further testing by looking a individual customer reports, as they get them. So it may take some time to pin point the cause of the problem, but at least it's being investigated properly. :) The ticket reference is 1358349 |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Thanks again DF. Watched The Deep last night on BBCHD, and I must say it seemed fine. I think the real test may be The One Show, that tends to be really bad.

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Yes - noticed it last night as well. Haven't checked today - not severe enough on my set up ( new box and new SONY Bravia 40" installed early last week) to prevent viewing but a bit irritating. All other HD Channels fine.....

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hi All - Has this issue been fixed? I only ask as my setup has been fine for the last two weeks or so.

There was some glitching of Channel 5 HD last night, out of sync and sound drop outs!

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
We were watching the new Millionaire last night on ch113 (ITV HD) and the lip-sync got so bad we changed to ch103 (ITV) and it was spot on. The strange thing was that the V+ box did such a good job of upscaling, we could not tell the picture difference from HD.

A reboot should have fixed that issue. |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Sounds to me like you are narrowing down the causes of the issue (only 5.1 broadcasts). How's the ticket going?

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hi DF - I have to admit not bad. HD channels seem fairly stable at the moment. BBCHD has been watchable. Channel5 has had that known problem. I think the big test will be Strictly Come Dancing which I will be forced to watch tonight by she who must be obeyed :( . That programme has been notoriously bad in the past (and the synch has been dodgy as well).
It seems that my keeping tabs on Virgin CS Forum has shown it is not an isolated problem. Thanks to you and Virgin team, for following this issue.:tu: mdancer |

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
IS anyone having lipsync troubles with Comedy Central HD? its not been in sync for me since the channel launched
|
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hi - I watched a recorded Gadget Show from C5HD last night. The lip synch was terrible, almost un watchable. Strictly recorded on Friday was fine until the recording failed after 30mins, but I guess that's a whole new thread.
I look forward to Virgin resolving the synch issue soon. Mdancer |

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
I'm still experiencing lip sync problems with BBC HD via surround sound. Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday (not my choice of viewing - honest!) was out by just enough to be irritating. Sky Sports 2 HD also out on Sunday. Problem always seems to be with live studio broadcasts.

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
I have intermittent sound breaks in all channels at the moment

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Noticed this on itvhd recently especially when the Bond movies have been on at the weekend & corrie as well, really annoying

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
New to this so treat me gently!! I have a new Samsung B6000 tv that I have hooked up to my existing Sony DAV 1S home theatre systme and my Samsung Virgin+ HD box. I was having problems with HD being out of sync (ITV HD mostly but other channels too) and assumed that I had set up incorrectly but having checked and after reading this I don't think the fault is mine.
I'm in the Bristol area if geography helps at all?! Cheers |

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Was terrible on X Factor on Saturday night. Looked like they were all bad at miming.
This is a Samsung box and I previously say it on a SA box so seems like it's a HD issue and not specific to a box |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
I was watching Couple Retreat yesterday morning on Sky Premier HD and had to switch to SD to watch it as the audio was so out of sync. ****es you off when you pay extra for the HD channels, then can't use them because the audio is out!

Also new to this forum! Also live in Bristol, also have new Samsung TV (altho its a 3D model - cost £1097 so was shocked also to find sync problems with HD channels - only really noticed it on ITVHD at the mo. Didnt notice problems when V+HD Box was set up with Sony TV which was only 3 years old. Have read that you can change Audio Lip sync on boxes and/or TV's - will have look later. Have not noticed problem with every programme on ITVHD but only a few - surely this would indicate particular transmission related issues? |

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
just an update really... further testing is ongoing as it's proving a tricky one to pin down.
some sync issues can indeed just be the channel itself having problems and this is sometimes mixed up in the ongoing general issue we are investigating. ITV1 HD shouldn't really be part of the issue as it's not broadcasting in 5.1 sound just yet. As the above poster points out, that was a ITV issue. I'll update as soon as I get more info. :) |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Thanks for the update. It's good to know this is being investigated. I noticed the sync problem for the first time last night but I've been having issues with pixelation on BBC HD for quite a while now.

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hi all - this the latest posted on Virgin Help and Support Forum -
We are continuing to investigate the intermittent issues with Audio/Video synchronisation. We currently have the following 2 Problem tickets for the Audio/Video synchronisation issues. 1358349 - Sound Synchronisation with Dolby 5.1 surround sound systems (when HDMI and Optical cables are used) on SD and HD channels. 1399472 - Sound Synchronisation (intermittent) with HD Channels where there is a simple setup of STB and TV connected by HDMI. If you have a separate surround sound system (amp) you should connect the STB directly to the TV with the HDMI cable to see if they are still experiencing the issue. The issue is intermittent and there are no further workarounds at this time. If customers would like to help by providing specific examples we can pass them onto our engineering team to assist with their investigations. We require the following information: Channel Programme Intermittent or continuous throughout the programme What setup i.e. STB connected via HDMI to TV or connected via separate surround sound system? Box Type Can I suggest that if members of this forum are experiencing these problems that they join the virgin forum to post their details. Whist it is encouraging that there are two tickets open this, it does not seem they are making much headway with the problem, which has been around for some time. mdancer |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
I assume as I have had no emails from Virgin support and this post has slipped off the front page that there is no progress on the tickets?
Just for the record The Gadget Show on 5HD was badly out of synch last night, even my wife commented on it! mdancer |

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Re the pixellation and sound dropping out. I have recently had problems with this and with my V+ box not recording the last few minutes of programmes despite the setting being put at +10 at end. I spent a frustrating 30 mins speaking to someone in India who asked me to do everything that I'd already done (Re-boot, check the settings, ventilation etc) and who then spent another 10 mins spaking to his supervisor - thank God its a free call! - but finally agreed to send an engineer.
When the engineer arrived he knew what the problem was straight away - the hard drive. He explained that the Samsung boxes have been made in Eastern Europe and Asia and there had been loads of problems with the ones made in Eastern Europe. He also explained that the reason it was happening whilst watching real time telly was because all of it has to go through the Hard Drive so that you can pause, rewind etc. (moment of realisation for me!!):dozey: It was replaced a week ago and although the pixellation problem hasn't gone completely, I've only noticed it once since rather than virtually every programme. So, if you are having these probs, might be worth a call? |

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hello all - back again. Well the sound out of sync issue did seem to be resolved, although I have not seen the outcome of the "ticket" opened by Virgin to look into the problem.
However, watching True Blood on FXhd the sound was just behind enough to be annoying. Anyone else experiencing this? Mdancer |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Just seeing this thread now. I noticed a similar problem a few nights ago on Comedy Central HD - sound was very out of synch. SD Comedy Central was fine. It was noticeable through at least two programmes as I kept checking back to see if it had corrected. It was completely unwatchable.
|
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
I know Comedy Central HD has had it's own problems a few times. I've not personally experienced any synch issues for months now.
I'll check the fault ticket that was investigating the issue tomorrow if I can. :) |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hi all - 5HD was badly out of sync yesterday afternoon for the kids film, had to turn back to 105!

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Just thought id add my $0.02. This has been bugging me for a while, but with the f1 on sky (and hopefully this includes virgin sports package) next year I could be tempted to go HD - if this can be fixed.
Current setup: VM+ box (Area reference 12 - Solihull) Sony Bravia KDL-40V5810 TV Sony BDVE370 Amplifier & Surround Sound VM and other equipment all HDMI into TV Optical cable out from TV to Amp Very bad delay on the picture on all basic Virgin HD channels that I have, will do more specific testing when home next. Have already tried without amp so sound is via TV speakers and delay still an issue. Trying to put in a help request on virginmedia.com, but its very slow...... |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
The synch issue is getting silly now. I've had it for ages, as have others (see the VM community forum) but nothing appears to be happening. Having to watch the SD versions of HD channels is unnacceptable really. I don't use an AV receiver, just HDMI straight to the TV.
