It is unlikely that we would get this before Sky as, from reports on DS Sky and ESPN are unable to reach an agreement on the carriage of this channel. Rumours are that ESPN want Sky to pick up the tab for bandwidth and Sky are not willing to do this. So until it is on a satellite that can broadcast to the UK (I am guessing this bit are the other countries it broadcast in served by different satellites?)

The email from VM CS is almost certainly a copy and paste job from a standard letter and it has had the name of the channel changed by the CS agent.

If ESPN America HD launches in the UK I would guess there would be an excellent chance we would get it. They seem to try and get at least some of their channels on all the platforms. Prior to ESPN/ESPN HD launching I was concerned that with them working so closely with Sky we might not get their full package but that has not been the case at all, in fact we get the best deal around.

I think they are an excellent network and will only get better.

I am sure some of the content is fine but as you say some is less so.

Just a quick search on google shows many committed christians saying how offensive they find their broadcasts (on many levels) and I would tend to share their point of view.

However they have a right to broadcast but personally I feel it is no better than the awful psychics who play on vulnerable people just to line their own pockets. As MB said they pay Virgin for the right to broadcast and it was a premium channel on NTL so they obviously think it's worth their while.

Maybe they will ultimately be judged!

By which I think he means that the VM feed has to be sourced from a suitable satellite to begin with. In the UK that might be Astra 2D or Eurobird 1 for example.

As far I can determine, ESPN America HD is supplied in Scandinavia by Canal Digital on LyngSat's Thor 5/6 at 0.8°W.

I don't know where the original uplink is sourced from but someone has to pay for the downlink unless it's also available by other means (e.g. a direct cable feed of some sort). In the UK, it tends to be BSkyB that fund the downlink but FreeSat or Virgin Media themselves would be alternative candidates if the customer base justified the expense.

My Total Channels and TS Streams went up by one each to 325 and 36 respectively.

I've never known what a TS Stream was (is it to do with MPEG?) but in the past the streams have only increased when large amounts of bandwidth had been made available (e.g. analogue switch-off here in Aylesbury).

It is probably more On Demand content. We shall wait with little or no anticipation.

Yep that exactly what I mean, I usually do one line answers when posting from my mobile. The uplink for ESPN channels that currently broadcast in the UK are done in a play out facility just outside of London I assume that ESPNA HD is uplinked from there as well.

My total channels went up today from 329 to 330 and as you say TS stream has gone up to from 35 to 36. Does anyone know of any specific reasons for these changes , anything new coming very soon for instance.

I have just received a call from VM regarding the confusion over the possible launch of ESPN America's HD channel on VM.
They apologised for the CS representatives differing replies and agreed that all CS advisor's should be "singing from the same hymn sheet". They had no news as to when or if the channel would launch, but negotiations about carriage details are private and confidential until a deal is announced.
My concerns are being escalated to a higher level along with my interest in VM carrying the ESPNA HD channel. They did confirm that they are always looking to improve there number of HD channels and that the more people who take the time to express an interest in the channel the better.
So it would appear we are are no nearer to an answer as to when ESPNA hd will be launched.

I'm really excited about this as it appears we will get Sky Sports and Movies in HD now. Appreciate that a lot of concern is shown by others as to VM bargaining power in the future, but from my perspective I'm a user/viewer and if VM get this HD content on their platform I'll stay with them.

But that's just my take on it all and if I'm honest I can't wait for the HD goodness to come :)

Yeah everyone has NGTV now. If you aren't receiving the channels, it could be a signal level issue, give faults a ring on 151 from a Virgin Media landline or 08454541111 from any other phone :)

I just checked the service status page, and says broadband and TV faults for my area, according to phone number, and it looks like a signal level fault, as all channels unwatchable, like a bad positioned sat dish, says hopefully sorted by tomorrow morning, will give it a bit and if still like that call then, though has been getting very very slowly better over last few moments

Agreed but the Beeb should be leading, not following. They always poo-poo'd the simulcast idea and only since they were allocated the other DTT slot that Five missed are they deciding that, actually, it makes sense to simulcast.

After 4 years, their beloved BBCHD is still a limited hours service with substandard audio most of the time (Latest series of Doctor Who excepted) and endless repeats.

Don't get me wrong, BBC1HD and a BBCHD channel that covers BBC2,3&4 content is great news for us viewers but it does smack of hypocrisy to me.

Growing up in Dublin with just one RTE channel until cable arrived (some neighbours had big Band I VHF aerials on tall stayed masts for BBC Wales and HTV), when there was freaky hot weather we would sometimes receive Scottish Television or Border Television via Tropospheric Ducting or Sporadic E propogation. It nearly ruined the 1972 Summer Olympics from Munich (but something more serious ruined that anyway).

I watched the Apollo 11 moon landing in 405 lines of glorious monochrome. Yes, we had black AND white in 1969. Luxury!

It's just like Doctor Who. The Tog Meister regenerated into a younger Irishman. I'm afraid the old one is gone forever. :(

Last year we were worried about what Graham Norton's presentation would be like and so, for the benefit of my TOG wife, I tried having the Ken Bruce Radio 2 commentary with the BBC 1 TV picture but the time lag between sound on analogue radio and picture on digital TV was too much. So we put Graham back on and found that he was very good. I thought he was good this year too. He was also honoured with a unique in-booth interview by one of the NRK presenters.

Personally I think Terry had lost it in recent years. Especially after the Copenhagen incident!

No Bailey's to be seen in the booth this year, although Graham scooted off pretty sharpish, before the event was even over, so as not to miss the bus to the after-show party!

Why on earth is that sneaky ? SS1,2,3 & 4 are all available to VM.

Sky have always used SS2 as their main Champions League coverage channel...and they use other channels and/or the red button for coverage of other games that have less interest for the masses.......if Sky, or any other broadcaster have spent their money buying the rights, they are at liberty to show them on what channel(s) they want to suit their commercial goals.

Gems TV (UK) Limited hope to sell it UK Company by 6pm on June 30th to The Colourful Company Group Limited.

If the Proposed UK Sale does not complete, it is likely the Company will have to shut down its business operations in UK and liquidate the assets of Gems UK accordingly.

Coming soon is no good, in time for the world cup is what we need, watching football on UTV is terrible.

I'm afraid for those who have UTV it's very unlikly any HD channel will arrive now unless anything is going on behind the scenes which no one knows about.
