It was mentioned in the BBC article that they confirmed the 11th Doctor before christmas.
It was announced long ago that this was to be an anniversary show, I think the 11th Doctor part will have been added on the end or something like that.

Seems to me that a timelord can have as many regenerations as the present writers will allow.

Anyway I suspect that The Doctor being the last one can use all the regeneration possibilities that would have been available to the other Timelords if they had survived...

More than likely it could get explained away that there are no longer any imposed regen limits due to the timelords no longer existing to keep track on the doctors regenerations.

I think it is going to be strange that the actor playing the companion will probably be older than the actor playing the Doctor, its going to take some getting used to!

Wonder how long it will take them to release the first publicity shots of him in character. I imagine it will be once filming commences in the summer.
