I thought the Opening Ceremony was brilliant. Some of the effects were very quirky. The Bird impressions and the Passing Seasons section have really stuck in my memory.

I am looking forward to watching some of the sporting events and am sure that Team GB will do us proud.

It great to see full coverage on the BBC

I actually sat and watched the opening ceremony and was quite awestruck as to the show that the Chinese have put on. The blind guy who sang\mimed was excellent.

I'm not overally impressed with the BBC though - The Olympics were on 24/7(ish) - However the Paralympics are reduced to a 'catch up' show in the evening or watching 5/6hrs live streaming via the red button.

They say that this Paralympics is going to be the most competative yet - It would be nice to be able to watch our athletes perform without having to resort to the Red button.

I am impressed as I have no interest in watching them, at least this time those that want to watch it have the option via the red button, it's better than nothing.

Fair point - However, I still feel that the Paralympics should have been given coverage equal to that of the Olympics.

They aren't given the same coverage, because by and large, the competitors are fairly unknown when compared to the able bodied ahtletes. How many past paralympic champions, apart from Tanni GreyThompson, can you name? The vast majority of the public will probably watch the highlight show to see how the medals have been won, but won't really want to watch all of the heats etc. Putting everything on the red button at least gives people a chance to see them if they wish. Far better than not having any other option.

Well that's the self defeating aspect of NOT making an issue of reporting the paralympics.Of course they aren't as famous as their fully able bodied fellow athletes if they are NEVER given any tv coverage. The more publicity and coverage would make them household names too.

Britain won four gold medals on the first day of action to get their Paralympics off to a flying start.
Well done to our athletes.

Well done to our athletes.

Well done to them but not very well done to the television coverage.Until it equals that of the full bodied Olympics there is no chance that the equally talented paralympic athletes will be household names.:(

Second in the medals table - Equal with China for Golds. This is despite some peoples' apathy toward the Paralympics. Come on Team GB:)

Our paralympians are doing a fantastic job and being honest i prefer to watch them rather then the fully able bodied athletes as they really have such an obstacle to overcome to even start. They really are a credit to this country and should recieve far more recognition then they do.

This thread has been pretty quiet recently. The press are still reporting our teams achievments in 'newspaper column inches' as opposed to pages. Will this change in 2012, when we are the Host Nation?

However - Our Paralympic team have won 37 Golds so far, only one behind China - at the mo. Our Olympic team got a well deserved total of 19. It's been a good year for our teams:)
