Re: Plane Spotters Corner
I've seen more extreme manoevers than that with a Chinook. There are a few videos on youtube. Seeing the video just makes it look even more crazy.
I love Chinooks. I'd love to ride in one but the last remaining civillians models have gone out of service now. Not sure I want to fly around Afghanistan in one getting shot at either :p: |

Spent the afternoon at East Midlands Airport today and apart from the usual BMI Baby, RyanAir and Easyjet, the Royal Airforce were doing takeoffs and landings all afternoon (RAFTristar) which was good fun plus a few other airlines.....and also spotted this little gem too....

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
At about 3pm we had a Spitfire and a ww2 bomber went overhead from east to west (location here is between Luton and Bedford)
Not sure what the bomber was but it wasn't the lancaster of the BBMF, had a split tail and twin engines (something a bit like an Avro Manchester.) Anyone else see it and/or identify the bomber? |

Picked up my daughter on the 24th from Volos airport (Nea Anchialos), which is co-located with the Greek Air Force 111th Combat Wing - there were a couple of F16s being hangared, but I didn't take any photos, as the Greek military get a bit tetchy if you do that.

However, what are Amateur Radio Hams? ("Ham" is a slang term for a Radio Amateur), one term or the other please, not mixed. and...... The vulcan has a cult following? It's one of the greatest bombers ever built, a statement like that is like saying the dambuster lancasters caused a few splashes! The only thing that looked "Amateur" with the possibility to develop a "cult" following is that article:D |

XH558 - Taken over Greenham Common on a very grey and cold "Late Summer Holiday" weekend! Very difficult to take - she moves so fast - and no tripod! |

Airbus A380
I'm hearing that anyone in the Birmingham area at 12.30 ish pm 9th Sept = today could see Emirates taking their flagship A380 into BHX for the celebration of the airport 70th anniversary Flight EK 0039
ETA 12:35. If the wind is in the right direction and they don't use some weirdo flight path, I should see this from home :) |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
So HONDO, did you see it ?
I know an Emirates or Singapore airlines flies in to Heathrow every day too. That photo you posted is a BMIBaby isnt it. |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
No I'm afraid not, not even a single snifter, but TBH I haven't seen a single aircraft at all today. I'm waiting for feedback now from my Brother, it may have gone overhead where he lives. What annoyed me was the cloud base was sky high, & weather perfect. :(

TBH I was more caught up in the moment, its the first time I've ever had Gawd knows how many tons, so close overhead. |

I remember when I first saw a 380, was on the bike on the M25 (partner on the back) going to Farnborough where the A380 was on display.. Low and behold the singapore airlines one took off right in front of us :) So in the end we saw two that day :)

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Will someone please tell that Spitfire pilot that although I do love seeing spitfires flying in this day and age going across the top of my house 4 times in the last 30 minutes is a bit much for me whilst I've got a headache!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:p: Will try and snap a pic if he goes over again!!! |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
I'm not sure if this is on topic for the tread but the closure details of BAE Woodford in 2012, with a further 205 jobs to be be lost at Samlesbury in Lancashire, 170 staff at Warton in Lancashire and 111 workers at Farnborough in Hampshire have just been announced.
Living near the Woodford site I used to love seeing the Vulcan and Nimrod fly overhead when I was a child. I know the closure was on the cards but it is still a blow to those employed by BAE and to the local communitys. http://business.timesonline.co.uk/to...cle6835040.ece |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
As a child, I remember putting my fingers in my ears a number of times at the Woodford airshow when a Vulcan came past.

Concorde to be restored to perform fast taxi runs:
http://www.flightglobal.com/articles...own-power.html This is great news if it happens! Just like the aircraft at Bruntigthorpe are kept in good enough condition to perform fast taxi runs, imagine seeing Concorde speed down the runway. It would be amazing! |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
 great news...
It always shocks me as to how they mothballed the entire fleet.. Surely they had offers from groups to keep one of these iconic planes flying?? I'm also suprised that EADS and British Aerospace didn't offer to keep one flying... |
