I've seen more extreme manoevers than that with a Chinook. There are a few videos on youtube. Seeing the video just makes it look even more crazy.

I love Chinooks. I'd love to ride in one but the last remaining civillians models have gone out of service now. Not sure I want to fly around Afghanistan in one getting shot at either :p:

At about 3pm we had a Spitfire and a ww2 bomber went overhead from east to west (location here is between Luton and Bedford)

Not sure what the bomber was but it wasn't the lancaster of the BBMF, had a split tail and twin engines (something a bit like an Avro Manchester.)

Anyone else see it and/or identify the bomber?

Picked up my daughter on the 24th from Volos airport (Nea Anchialos), which is co-located with the Greek Air Force 111th Combat Wing - there were a couple of F16s being hangared, but I didn't take any photos, as the Greek military get a bit tetchy if you do that.

However, what are Amateur Radio Hams? ("Ham" is a slang term for a Radio Amateur), one term or the other please, not mixed.

and......

The vulcan has a cult following? It's one of the greatest bombers ever built, a statement like that is like saying the dambuster lancasters caused a few splashes!

They're surprisingly hard to spot, too, living under the flightpath I rarely look up these days, so I only ever see them if I'm out and about and they happen to go over. Seen Emirates, Singapore and a single Qantas one climbing out over Ealing a few weeks back which nearly caused me to swerve off the M4.

I'm not sure if this is on topic for the tread but the closure details of BAE Woodford in 2012, with a further 205 jobs to be be lost at Samlesbury in Lancashire, 170 staff at Warton in Lancashire and 111 workers at Farnborough in Hampshire have just been announced.

Living near the Woodford site I used to love seeing the Vulcan and Nimrod fly overhead when I was a child. I know the closure was on the cards but it is still a blow to those employed by BAE and to the local communitys.

There has to be for security reasons. I think it's 5 mins on the Radarbox network for eg. but professional users can subscribe to a realtime service.

You'll get a realtime feed of course in your radio line of sight if you have an ads-b receiver (radarbox of sbs). My system covers a radius of 200+ nautical miles for en-routes ;)

It always shocks me as to how they mothballed the entire fleet.. Surely they had offers from groups to keep one of these iconic planes flying?? I'm also suprised that EADS and British Aerospace didn't offer to keep one flying...

After the funding and regulatory difficuilties they've had with the aforementioned Vulcan, i'm not surprised.

It's also worth noting that Richard Branson wanted to buy them and operate them under Virgin, BA refused.

We lost all the Concordes, now this . Surely there is a way to keep it flying? I have been lucky enough to see Vulcans fly, including this one at last years Blackpool airshow. Awesome...:D

Fantastic, now you may not believe this, but I have NEVER seen XH558 fly, and was beginning to think I never would.

Need to get myself to Waddington this year, would have like to have gone to Fairford for RIAT but doubt i'll be able to get there.

Same here Jon. I've only seen her either in the hanger being restored or taxi-ing.
I really want to see her lift off and roar through the skies.

This is great news if it happens!
Just like the aircraft at Bruntigthorpe are kept in good enough condition to perform fast taxi runs, imagine seeing Concorde speed down the runway. It would be amazing!

Great idea, but the Oxford Street traffic will still be a bitch.:D
