Allardyce said: "They're out of order. I'm flabbergasted and want the situation resolved."

What are you on about, his behaviour forced them to sell him, it's a pity football has no morals, because he should have been sacked and left to rot in obscurity with no club wanting to sign him, sadly as shown already with Lee Hughes football don't work like that :(

Well, lets hope he asks the right questions and isn't as miss informed as that pagan of virtue Dave Whelan, I see that Wigan are now involved with a players contract irregularities and honest Dave is being investigated for miss leading the Stock Exchange, which should come as little shock because he has been miss leading people about our case all along, still what should we expect from some one who holds fans in such low esteem, a judge described his business as a cartel

Clive Betts MP has been pretty vocal on this, that is when he's not accepting 'gifts' from McDonalds and then whining about Mcjobs in Parliament or doctoring letters to get his rent boy lover a visa, sounds like just the chap to fight your corner with honesty and integrity

Quote:

Jason Crowe will become Nottingham Forest's second signing of the summer with the defender set to complete his long-awaited move from Northampton.

The out-of-contract star ironed out the final details of his free transfer on a visit to the City Ground earlier this week - allowing Colin Calderwood to end his year-long pursuit of the 28-year-old.

Bent turns down move to West Ham......

Quote:

Charlton striker Darren Bent has turned down a move to West Ham after the two clubs agreed a fee. "We set a valuation for Darren and West Ham were the only club prepared to meet that valuation," said Charlton chief executive Peter Varney.
"This morning we gave them permission to speak to Darren, which he did, and he has decided not to join West Ham."
Strange as West Ham were the only club prepared to meet that valuation, whatever that was.

FIVE CLUBS NAMED IN STEVENS FINDINGS

Five Premier League clubs have been named by Lord Stevens as having breached transfer regulations.

Chelsea, Newcastle, Bolton, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth have all been named by the former Metropolitan Police commissioner in his final report to the Premier League.

The clubs are set to face a further investigation from the Football Association but it is understood that Newcastle and Bolton are viewed as the most serious miscreants.

Stevens has also expressed concern about 15 agents and third parties involved in some 17 transfers.

Stevens' report specifically lists concerns about two managers.

One is Sam Allardyce, and a conflict of interest with his former agent son Craig and Bolton Wanderers.

The other is Graeme Souness, with Stevens reporting "inconsistencies in evidence" provided by the former Newcastle manager and Kenneth Shepherd, son of Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd.

Of the 17 transfers, four relate to Newcastle signings (Emre Belozoglu, Jean Alain Boumsong, Amady Faye, Albert Luque), four to Bolton (Ali Al-Habsi, Tal Ben Haim, Blessing Kaku, Julio Correia), three to Chelsea (Didier Drogba, Petr Cech, Michael Essien), three to Portsmouth (Collins Mbesuma, Benjani Mwaruwari, Aliou Cisse) and two to Middlesbrough (Aiyegbeni Yakubu and Fabio Rochemback) while one transfer has not been disclosed

You mean you hadn't heard of him, Gerrard Houlier wanted to sign him for Liverpool before he went to Utd for instance, when you say comparable do you mean like a Champions League final and winning the League cup? Because it looked like Henry was on the scrapheap aged 22 Where as Ronaldo was a top prospect

Had the name 'Ronaldo' been mentioned to anyone (including yourself) pre-2003 and it would have been assumed the buck-toothed Brazillian was the subject.

'Comparable' in terms of before coming to the Premiership, both were virtual unknowns but vastly improved their game as a result.

Henry had played and scored in a World cup, so he was hardly unknown, he'd failed badly in Italy, that was the problem, it's also interesting that both were bought to replace key players and I'd agree, the Premier league has been good for them and they for it

The runner up with the least points will miss out on the playoffs. As there is a group of five teams the runner up in this goup would probably miss the playoffs having played fewer games. So to make it fair when calculating who misses out they remove the points gained against the bottom team in each of the groups with 6 teams.

It's a possible scenario then that a team who finishes third, could claim a playoff spot over a team finishing 2nd, after the re-calculation ? This sounds like it could get complicated. :D

No, Its only the 9 runners up who have a chance. The one with the worst record misses out.

I know that part, but there could still be a case where the team finishing in 3rd could claim a play off place, over the team finishing 2nd in a group, because of the re-calculation. Which does seem unfair, but uefa do like to tweak things I suppose.

AFAIK they only will recalculate the runners up points not the whole group so that won't happen.

that just doesn't seem fair to me.. once the group stages are over that should be it.. there shouldn't be an re-calculating and taking teams away etc.

if you finish second after all the games then you are second.. that should be it

That it how it is. The recalculation will only involve the runners up.

If it is only the runners up, then that's fair enough. The BBC article I linked to is a little ambiguous.

I maybe wrong, its not unknown. The only thing I can find on the UEFA site says the following...

Quote:

Nine qualify directly
The UEFA Executive Committee made the decision at its two-day meeting in Heerenveen. As a result the nine group-winners will qualify directly, while the best eight second-placed teams will contest home and away play-off matches for the remaining four places. "It's a good compromise solution, because I wasn't really happy with the format for the last qualifying competition with groups of seven and eight teams," said UEFA President Michel Platini. Europe has 13 places available for the tournament in South Africa.

I went to the UEFA web site myself and from reading that is seems we have the same as now to be honest.. the teams play each other and the group winners go through and the second placed teams have a play off.

it's that pretty much what we do now anyway ?

Is it just that the groups are a bit smaller now that is the change ?

i think John Toshak recommended Coleman to Real Sociedad as he is the ex manager.. they have been relegated but could be a good move for Coleman

I read about Rossi a few days ago and yes the bid is meant to be about £6m.

i think it will be a shame if he goes.. i think is has the best reserve record of any striker we have ever had, although the reserve league isn't great at present.. He's meant to be brilliant and deserves to be given a chance in the first team.. Saha will be injured all the time anyway and Smith is meant to be going too so that means we only really have Rooney as a striker and he does a lot of his work outside the box anyway

just seen this on the BBC site

When you consider Darren Bent was going to cost us 40 million over 5 years in transfer fee and wages, I'd say that was a pretty good deal

Rossi looks like he has potential to me. I just think that it was a confidence issue with him, when he played a few games the other year. I think that if he was given a chance now, after this loan period, it might be different.

Could well be at cut price too. Means Defoe and Mido are set to go then.

I wouldn't call 17m cut price. it's more than Henry and even with the age I know which one I would rather have

I don't really rate him, thought he might work well with Ashton though but the price was obscene, I also think Defoe is the better finisher and it also means Robbie Keane is no longer first choice

Seems I am not the only one, not to disappointed

"I feel let down and disappointed. But it is time to move on."

However, Magnusson said he had been buoyed by the reaction from West Ham supporters in the wake of Bent's decision.

"In the aftermath of this I have been encouraged by the reaction of our supporters," said Magnusson.

"They appreciate the efforts we made and some of the feedback suggests they are less disappointed than I thought they might be.
"The view seems to be that perhaps this wasn't the best deal we could do at this stage."

We aren't paying 17m... Spurs offered 13m compromised.. I should imagine its a lot closer to that figure as we steadfastly refused to pay anywhere near 17m, even to risk losing him to West Ham.

West Ham striker Carlos Tevez has turned down a move to Inter Milan after the Italian champions imposed a deadline for him to make a decision.

Joorabchian, though, insisted that the Hammers are in talks to keep the Argentina international but played down reports of a £115,000 per week being offered to convince him to stay. The Iranian businessman added:

"That is "absolutely not true". "He has not been offered that sum of money to stay, but it is true we are still talking and hope to come to some arrangement."

Look's like he might stay :tu:

Why because he is an English player? I have never understood why the price doubles if you want to buy English, 16 million buys you Bent or Henry and we had the same last year, 8 million bought you Andrew Johnson or Eideur Gudjohnson, both no brainers really and people wonder why teams are full of foreign players

I meant the "ripping us off" comment because of the high ticket prices and stuff. They do charge us but as this shows, they are spending the money too.

Never really though about British players costing more, but you have a point.

isn't Andersson in the Copa America and getting caps at the moment ?

i've never understood this rule anyway as these footballers have guaranteed jobs and there for guaranteed wages and taxes for the government so I can't see the problem even if he has no caps and never will. particularly at his level where the wages are so high it will generate loads of taxes

I believe its a standard employment law, to protect British workers, why have a non EU citizen doing the job no better than 'one of our own', there are procedures in place for football so clubs don't miss out on top players, the size of the transfer, his age and his reputation will count for a lot here, although it's worth noting Arsene Wenger tried to sign Ronaldiniho before he went to Barcelona, only to fail because of work permit regulations

Can't say for sure what the majority of fans feel, but normally we're just generally happy people are coming in... But i'm not really impressed. Have far too many strikers, and due to the sheer number, they don't get regular games and so under perform. Even so, our attacking wasn't too bad last season. Our defensive record was appalling. King was out a lot, but even so, 1 player shouldn't have to make that much difference. They mone would be a lot better spent bulking up our defence. We've bough Garetht Bale, but not sure its enough.

Bent's not bad, but vastly over-priced. but the money needs to be spent in defense and defensive-midfield I think.
