Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
We got the booklet last week and we got our update last night. We're in Rickmansworth near Watford and got a Samsung box. I definitely prefer the new blue colour...
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Nice new blue interface this morning (Manchester). Much better.
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Got my update overnight, seems a bit quicker, i'll have a proper mess about after the cricket.
North Manchester. |

Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Well, my box went blue a week or two back. It seems to have fixed the freezing / random changing of channel to Front Row issue. Yay!
Although, it's buggered up my TiVo on channel changing. It can pretty much never change to the right channel now. I suppose it's easy to assume this is a TiVo fault, but when my TiVo had been working fine till this upgrade, it's a bit of a coincedence.... Really worth it just so my NTL remote (which I keep in a drawer and never use) can change the volume on my TV. Anyone know a good deal on Sky? |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
I have Tivo and channel changing is still working fine on mine!
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Is that on a Samsung box? That's what I've got, and I've seen a lot of people reporting similar issues on the TiVo Community forums - http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...1&page=2&pp=30
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Nope, Pace1000 box!
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
That'll be why then. It's the Samsung boxes that are having the problem, but I need that for my 2Meg. Some people are saying it's possible to get a stand-alone modem as well as the TV box, but it requires a bit of tea and biscuit style bribery.
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Watford got the download today, didnt even need a reboot, on both Samsung STB's.
Much better although the STB's volume cannot be controlled on the Samsung boxes. |

It should work - it does on all the Samsung boxes round here... Does Mute work on the remote? What if you press the Left (<) and Right (>) buttons on the front of the STB?

I think the default code is 0000, so go through the settings process using that code, and it should control the box again. Browneggsandham :) |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Peterborough got the download today. Cant see what all the fuss is about.
Pleased to see the AV switching works now even if the current channel is in wide screen RGB |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Any Ideas when CR1 customers get the upgrade either to pink or blue?
   |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
No change here in East Manchester, got a book through the post though today and channel 119 is still banging on about how good the telephone service is :D
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
I now have to ch 119's i am north mancs in Middleton but come under Rochdale or something on NTL, should I have the upgrade now?

I Know how you feel, I find it frustrating that all these people are saying how great it is better faster etc. Correct me if I'm wrong but if we are all paying the same are we not entitled to the same service at the same time, not an inferior service for two months longer than the first upgrade. Should we not be entitled to a reduction for not getting the service other people are. I think 80 quid is a lot of money for a service that is below the standard other people have. |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
The software isn't rolled out nationwide concurrently to prevent a massive number of calls into the Customer Service Centres with queries, or the Faults Management Centres should something go wrong.
As for a reduction... Pfft! |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Got mine upgraded, looks quite nice.
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Channel 119 in Manchester is now showing upgrade info, and I received a book in the post today, so hopefully we'll be receiving the upgrade soon.
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
i got my book in the post to day (surrey kt12 ), any one know how long the time is from geting the book to geting the update ? :)
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....

What part are you in. Also Since the update don't spose anyone with Broadband running through their STB has noticed any regular dropping of the connection? |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Got mine this morning in Peterborough too.
I had to reboot the Samsung, but the PACE came through by itself! |

Thing is they won't do the whole of Manchester at once as its so massive. Doing it in increments means that if anything goes wrong they can sort things quickly, plus I don't think NTL wants one of their biggest franchises in the the UK to go **** over tit. lol |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Customers in Peterborough, Watford and Manchester 1 (Bolton and Greater Manchester) should now receive the updated code if they reboot their STBs. :)

Thank god for that i nearly rebooted whilst the wife is watching casualty :disturbd:

Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
OK - I'm in the Bromley area and every night for the past week the TV has flickeerd, we get fancy new blue info screens for a few seconds, the screen flickers again and we are back to purple. No amount of resetting makes any difference. Are these failed upgrades (I'm on the Sansung box) or is NTL just teasing me?
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Quote:
It can't flicker between the old & new software. Either you have the new software or you don't. |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Been a bit of a lurker but thought I would throw my two peneth in :)
Got the upgrade on Wednesday morning, all fine but flicking up or down through the channels seems slower since the upgrade. No big deal, I can live with it but unsure why.....have the old Pace box |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Quote:
It's being looked into by the ntl software development team. |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Anyone know when (or if) NTL are planning to correct the problem the new software causes with Tivos (can't change to a channel with repeated digits, eg, E4)?
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
There are a number of guys here who have TiVos, so we do know about it, but since most of us are on Langley it's not quite as high priority as it might be! You'll just have to wait for the NTLTVPVR (which sounds like a bad hand at Scrabble) which is *ahem* Coming Soon! ;)
Your best bet, I've found, is to use one of the Pace Slow codes, and position just one of the the IR blasters directly in front of the STB, about an inch away from the LED display. Hide the other blaster behind the TV or something. Even then, I find the keypresses aren't 100%... |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Downloads of BU2 have started today in Surrey, Bury, Stockport and Oldham :)
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Been updated here this morning in East Manchester, first impressions very good (took a few seconds instead of a few minutes to get into the EPG so may actually be usable now!) Don't quite get the point of having mini-guide written in big letters at the side of the uh mini guide, seems more than obvious what it is!
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Quote:
Is that Surrey - as in Aldershot, Hampshire Surrey - Weybridge, Walton, Addlestone, or even Surrey - Guildford  ntl seem to have some odd geography :D If Addlestone, it would explain why my EPG was even more useless than normal last night. At least ntl have now sent me "the essential handbook for your new improved Digital TV service", so it must at long last be "coming soon" :D :tu: |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
It's not Guildford - that's Langley - it's Franchise 465, which is officially "North & North-East Surrey" and includes Hersham, Addlestone, Leatherhead and Reigate hubs. If you reboot your box, you should get BU2. :)
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Ive been updated here in Surrey - Epsom area. All seems to working fine.
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
we have just today got the info channel showing the new software in brighton
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Okay, well it seems to have killed my box for now. It's been down a good couple of hours I think, NTL logo, one green light. Is it supposed to take this long? Tried rebooting, but it's dead. :|
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
I'm afraid that sounds like a very dead box. Give the Fault Management Centre a ring on 0800 052 2000 (Option 3) to get a replacement!
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Please tell me Walthamstow ( Waltham Forest ex CWC ) is going to be upgraded soon ...
we have been neglected long enough ... |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Yep, looks like it completely fried my system... guy coming tomorrow morning hopefully. :| Wonder how many other boxes it'll kill?
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
hope that it doesnt fry my box too-my husband would not be a happy bunny neither will i!!
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
With any update, there's a risk of boxes not taking the download or being killed by it. Unfortunately, it's just something we have to manage as best we can.
|

Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
There is, but it requires taking the box apart. It isn't a case of hardware melting as such - certainly not literally - but any number of things can cause a box to stop responding.
Still, at least you'll have a shiny new one tomorrow... :) |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Right. :( Well, I have a 1000 box, so I will look on the bright side and hope to get one a bit speedier? ;)
Sky blew me away when I saw it again recently. I kept thinking, I have a hard cable into my house, how can it work 20 times faster? :p |

dont suppose this means we are any closer to getting caller id in Waltham Forest ? |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Sorry, TV and Telco are totally unrelated, so the BU2 upgrade doesn't effect the features available on your telephone line.
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
wishful thinking i know....
well i wait for the BU2 upgrade .. and wait and wait |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Got our update this morning (around about midnight). I rebooted the box hoping the new channels would pop up, but got the new software instead. I'm in Rochdale (OL11). Haven't received a letter advising of the upgrade, nor a booklet and ch119 was always showing the phone offers) but it came down on a reboot and it really is a lot faster!
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
lol my partner was moaning yesterday that he was in the middle of watching Supermarket Sweep on Challenge at 5.30am and it went off to do the upgrade (I think its ntl's way of telling him to get better taste in tv shows!)
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
i had to reboot for my Upgrade to start.. however the Remote wont control the volume on the new Software with my Samsung box.. do i need a new Remote code?
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
No you don't, but if you'd already programmed it to control your TV, it won't control both at the same time.
To reset it to control the box, I think you need to set it up with code 0000. Browneggsandham :) |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
how do i input this code? i did'nt get a manual with this thing :)

For example I was on BBC1 last night & wanted to change to channel 30 (Sky1), I hit 3 then 0 & instead of getting channel 30 I got ITV1 (3) then channel 0, this happened 3 times then it got the idea I wanted channel 30 & gave me it. |

If you get broadband via your STB, then it will be briefly interrupted (for maybe a couple of minutes) as the box updates itself, but that's it. |

Thanks Tristan, the only reason i asked is i dont want my other half giving me GBH of the earhole because the internet dont work and it wont be my fault-again thanks
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Just for info...Winchester [Hampshire] just upgraded....
Holding my breath Re Tivo/Samsung STB !!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Downloads of BU2 have started today from the Southampton and Seven Kings headends. Customers who reboot their STB or leave it in Standby overnight should receive the code. :)
|
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Quote:
I didn't get the update on my STB, until I manually rebooted it (it's usually left on, rather than in standby). The Samsung crashed on the first reboot, but then loaded up just fine the second time. Not quite sure about the new colour scheme. Somehow I'd got used to that lovely shade of purple :dozey: |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
I like the colour scheme, but dislike the design of the miniguide. I mean, it doesn't actually need that text on there, does it? It could so with some borders, too. And it doesn't need to stretch across the screen.
Maybe the next software version will have a redesigned miniguide to keep me happy... |
Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Got my upgrade this morning,i like the layout
my broadband kept discounting,i restarted my samsung box and it upgraded it self, only lost broadband cos i had to reboot box. |

Re: Bromley upgrade starting....
Essex, got it this morning too
Disconcerting that there's no progress spinner when going in to Interactive etc., but then, the spinner could twirl away for ever more with nothing happening. Not had any proper BBCi for it to crash on yet, so no idea if the red button is any more stable in this release. |
