Agree :D There are loads of pre-set rules - I've added a few myself.

I use this http://www.spam-stop.co.uk/ try it free for 30 days then £5 per month after that. All spam is deleted at the server so nothing gets through to you.

Bouncing them simply creates more traffic to overload mail servers - imagine if one million spams sent also generated one million mail bounces .

Great if you want to spend £5 month, and give a stranger access to your mailbox. :disturbd: As I have said many times in all the Spam topics we get, there are plenty of free spam filters out there - the one I use is Popfile, and it's sucess rate is currently 99%.

FYI: Once you start getting Spam, it will normally continue as Spammers generally asume that any e-mail address they don't get a delivery failure for is a valid address.

No stranger gets access to your mailbox.

So how do they access your mail on the mail server then ?

Re: Spam spam spam spam spam spam

These days, they cannot get the delivery failures, since they spew their junk from an open proxy, with a fake address.

What CONFIRMS you as receiving, is the fact that most of them include an image hotlink, which may be tagged to identify your address.

I firewall my mail client against HTTP - there may be a better way, and it makes newsletters messy, but it means nobody can get any tracking feedback on my email!

Bad idea to bounce as they know that e-mail address in active.

27 spam since yesterday. It was 12 at 2319 yesterday.

For a lot less than that per month you could get a domain name and some pro webhosting (e.g. I-websolutions - shameless plug) complete with spam protection on your email boxes.

Yes and Mozilla Thunderbird blocks remote images by default.

I now use my own domain and I have not had any spam on that account so far (touches wood).

good question - no idea of an answer, - but if you forward the problem accounts to hotmail, or gmail, etc they do have very good filters ;)

Your webmail account is exactly the same service in terms of what goes in and out of it as any email that you send from or to your computer. There are no extra filters. The only noticeable difference with ntlwebmail, is if you send via the web, your message will have an ntl "advert" tag line added as a footer.

The best way to reduce spam is to use an email addy that is difficult for spam programs to guess. Spammers know the ntlworld.com bit, so they then just have software send messages to all the usual derivatives of firstnames, surnames and so on. Get a few random characters and numbers in there and it's harder to guess. Avoid publishing your email addy on websites (spammers scan for those), and be careful who you reply to so your email addy isn't being sent to harvesting sites.

No it won't stop the spam, and no there are no extra filters. Also be aware that when you delete messages they go into your Trash folder and stay there - they're never automatically deleted, and unless you do this yourself you're mailbox will fill up. :(

hiya people

I get 50 plus a day Spam emails through my NTLWORLD email account, i get all my NTLWORLD email Forwarded to my ANTI-SPAM account at BIGFOOT.COM but the trouble is then, i dont get any emails at all from my NTLWORLD email address, even the ones i send to myself via my Domain Name Email Account, the ones from my Web Hosting company dont get through either, this is most annoying. both of these domain names are on my BIGFOT White List.

hhhmmm, perhaps this ISNT a NTLWORLD problem at all

I have an NTL email address which is NEVER used directly - I have other email addresses which forward to that address.

However I have started getting spam directly to that address.

This implies 1 of 2 things. Either -

1. The NTL user database has been hacked, or
2. Some F****R inside the company has sold a list

Whichever, the death penalty gets my vote.

Whoops, sorry ... guess it should have been in this thread

Well, what do you know? 30 seconds later it is :)

3. The spammers just try random permutations of username@ntlworld.com...

So why can't NTL put in a spam filter?

It can't be that hard surely

There are a few long threads about this issue, but basically, some of us would prefer it if NTL left our emails well alone. They already make a mess of delivering them, Lord only knows what they'd do with spam filtering :disturbd:

They have. Last night, between 11pm and 6am, anti-virus and anti-spam measures were added to the ntlworld email platform. The anti-virus solution should be active immediately, but the anti-spam solution is currently in testing, and is due to go live in a phased rollout over the next few weeks.
