Someone asked me about Channel M. They have had further technical issues and unfortunately we don't now have a date when they will be ready to launch. It's expected to be another few weeks.

are we ever going to get any new channels (apart from the setanta tv channels coming this summer)???

i guess customers outside of manchester will not receive channel M?

and why is channel ntl so utterly useless - i don't ruddy care about ntl broadband sky channel 698!!!

Channel ntl: is just been kept warm until the next update on the Bromley platform isn't it ;) I hope Bromley customers will get the remote control dressed as an engineer with a utility belt that Langley customers got. In fact the remote should host everything on Channel ntl:, and it could be voiced by Simone Bien. Where is Simone, I havn't seen her in ages!

Re: the next new channels to come on ntl???

From a govt intranet service:

Quote:
In order to deliver the Government’s commitment to make job search and the ability to apply for a job accessible by interactive digital TV by 2005-06 a system has been developed that will enable jobseekers to access Job Bank vacancies via their interactive digital TV (iDTV).

A pilot service started in June, running until March 2005 using vacancies from the London area. This pilot will give all NTL/Telewest/Sky subscribers access to vacancies notified within a 15 mile radius of Central London.

Go live will be staggered over a period of a few weeks, due to individual digital TV providers updating their service. The dates are planned as follows:

21 June 2004 – Telewest service went live;
Exact date not yet confirmed for NTL service to go live; and
15 July 2004 – SKY service will go live.

Job Channel is a means of broadening the potential audience who will be able to access Jobcentre Plus vacancies. Jobseekers who may not use the Jobcentre Plus services provided in offices will be able to look at vacancies in the comfort of their own home at a time that suits them.

This is a new and exciting media for reaching jobseekers and we hope that a successful pilot using London vacancies will lead us to extend this service to other parts of the country.

Better than a shopping channel i suppose! https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2006/02/3.gif

ntl don't even have basic interactive in london - let alone enhanced stuff like this.
that date will probably be after the actual full release of the service!
:)

NTL already carries the Job Channel on its interactive service and unlike Sky it doesn't cost local rate +1p per minute to access information. The only thing enhanced with Sky's version is your phone bill.

Err, that doesn't appear to be anything to do with the post you quoted..

bigitup_j was pointing out that NTL offer NO interactive services in London (more specifically on what was previously the videotron network).

Er, it does. bigitup_j said ntl don't even have basic interactive in London - let alone enhanced stuff like this

There is nothing particularly enhanced about the service, nothing that ntl doesn't already carry on it's er, basic Job channel interactive service today.

ntl (or Sky customers for a price) can already search and locate vacancies across the UK, not just in their local area. The vacancies in London are not just targeted at those currently living in London, hence the whole idea of showing them UK wide on digital TV.

It's now on Channel 26 but the picture isn't too hot, hope it improves.

At least they've dropped Sky News (if the ntl epg is correct) so things can only get better. The early evening local news bulletin looks promising, and finally Euronews too, even if it is only for 6 hours.

I wish the Local Channel would just be completely replaced by the Community Channel, everything bar the Community Channel is pathetic with awful sound. Plus why on earth is there a section each night called "Afghan TV" which is in Afghanistani, theres nothing local about that.

Finally arrived. It'll be a welcome addition for many, as reception is virtually non-existent in many parts of the city.
