More than likely.

With GOLD now operating in HD, aspect ratios are perhaps not so easily changed, so Pillar-boxing with generated side panels would be the preferred output method. My thoughts are that GOLD are now taking the HD output & downscaling it to SD so all customers will see the same format.

I prefer it like that as opposed to stretching the picture or using zoom and losing part of the picture.

Due to a fault with Sky, Babestation (and other similar channels not on VM) were off air on Sky and Freeview.

Did anyone notice it being off on VM too; whilst channel hopping of course ;)

My equipment is set up to view 4:3 content in the original aspect ratio. So I get the pillar box version on SD anyway, the enforced 4:3 ratio pillar box image of full scan HD is just a bonus.

Apparently, the Freeview versions of Babestation carried video slates stating that the channels were unavailable, replaced by the standard MHEG slates outside of their usual hours. Babestation on VM carried the Oops! etc video slate. Studio 66 was also unavailable on Freeview. Maybe someone forgot to pay the electricity bill. :D

Apparently not the first time that the Babestation channels have been off-air recently with a "fault".

Which setting would people recommend?

I wonder why Channel 4 didn't put E4 HD onto 106? Do those below XL not get this? I know that Film 4 HD is available to those with lower packs and assumed that the rest of their portfolio would be too, especially with it being a broadcaster owned by the public.

Maybe there are still a lot of SD only boxes out there too.

XL is vms hidden hd charge ok you get more channels but it's obvious the HD charge is there which is why vm annoy me when they say HD doesn't cost extra.

You are correct.
Film 4 HD is on Mix TV upward.

We look up all channel numbers every night to see if they are still broadcasting.

We found Channel 981 was not broadcasting on Saturday Night.

Well if UKTV is set to axe Eden the following may happen in 2018.

GOLD HD launches on Virgin Media UK to make up for Eden HD.
Eden becomes Drama +1
Eden +1 becomes Really +1

And the shows on Eden can be moved to an other UKTV Channel.

If Eden HD does come off VM I tend to think that it will close and the above will happen.
