30% means nothing. The rules have changed.

Lampard, apparently.

It means he can make an offer for the rest of the shares, not that he has to or that the offer has to be accepted iirc.

Would never have guessed it'd be him, I'd rep.if I could btw

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

He could have offered for all shares from the get go. The 30% will just get talked up as what could have happened under previous rules. The reason why he has probably lodged it today is because it was the AGM at Arsenal and Red&White/Usmanov wants a seat on the board. Many fans wonder why he's not on the board so its smart to lodge it today. Sir Chips, Arsenal chairman avoided the question at the AGM of why Usmanov isn't on the board.

He can always make an offer for the rest of the shares. He could have, at any point, offered whatever he wanted for Kroenke's shares. The only thing that would have changed was that he could have seen access to the accounts but this was changed. Arsenal fans had been hyping this for years on Twitter as they nursed a dream that a rich businessman was going to spend lavishly on the team but 30% never meant anything even before those rules were changed. Just Twitter nonsense.

The old rules had meeting 30% would trigger a mandatory bid for all remaining shares at the price the single share cost that hit 30%. The offer wouldnt of had to be accepted by remaining shareholders but it was used, could have been used as a way to pile pressure on.

It still piles the pressure on, it might not hold any leverage these days but it's significance won't be lost on usmanov, Stan, the board or the fans

Absolutely. I'm a firm believer he, Usmanov should have a seat on the board not only because he holds such a vast share in Arsenal and he is a serial investor but because Arsenals history proves it has taken many different heads to bond together to build what it is today.

Pfft, Arsenal fans want a money laundering drugs baron to sit on their board? More fool them I say.

 Please tell us of your days in Russia that witnessed all that you want to throw at Usmanov. We all know Russia is murky but I'd take caution against anyone attempting to stand on moral high on this subject.

Plenty of stories in the media about his shady dealings. No mud slinging from me, just stating the facts as I have read them previously. And he has never denied the claims either, which speaks volumes to me.

So you know nothing of the lawyers acting on behalf of him stopping slurs and making clear he was freed after there was political change in Russia. Or the fact he did deny all when speaking to The Guardian. Do you know of the power that was in place when Usmanov found himself caught up in something nasty? Please tell us of your days in Russia while all this was going on and not just some piece that just points out the charges and accusations he faced.

As opposed to a colossal tax avoider like uncle Joe, it's a tricky one but I'll go with neither

I find that hard to believe. He's one of the more intelligent players around and I'd imagine he knows where the "Feed the monkey" line actually comes from and what it means. I could start a twitter account right now and chuck a few names about which would get picked up very quickly. I'm happy to admit that I'm wrong if it's true though. You'd better get used to the Usmanov accusations as well. We've had similar to it for years, and when someone seems to have made money out of the way Russia was broken up at that time, the rumours and accusations never stop and get picked up by everyone, like the Lampard thing. Anyway enough of that nonsense, I hope Ozil is fit to earn me double fantasy points this weekend. There's some interesting games this week as well. Newcastle v Liverpool, United v Southampton, West Ham v City and I hope Gus gets off to a good start at Swansea.
