It was a pretty stupid comment to make. He should have just said its his decision to make and left it at that. When you start talking about England is for the English etc its only going to be reported one way by the media...

Yeah if you take English nationality and grew up here then you're English. Under that logic Mo Farah wouldn't be British, nor would half our cricket team. You don't have to be born here to be English. Although I imagine Jack probably just meant a teenager who has been here a few years and isn't really nationalised.

City players and staff dip into their own pockets to halve cost of away games for fans

The cost of Manchester City's away games this season will be halved after everyone at the club put their own money in to help subsidise the matches.

I never thought Mike Ashley would be responsible for getting the ball rolling... Although he's always trying to annoy people in a business sense, Whelan over at the 'JJB' knows a lot about that.

Angry Levski Sofia fans force new coach Ivaylo Petev to take off the team's shirt at his first news conference, before escorting him out.

The fans were unhappy at Petev's appointment at the Bulgarian club as they believe he is a supporter of arch city rivals CSKA Sofia.

Several dozen hostile fans burst in shortly after the start of Petev's first news conference, making him remove his shirt before ushering him out of the room.

he then quit lol

Why, isn't he allowed an opinion and I don't think it was a "silly" comment, what's the point of having a national team if none of them in it are nationals and more importantly is this really the way to sort out the national team, fill up the academies with foreign kids.

Half the English cricket team aren't English, they don't even pretend they are.

The only problem in what he said is that he didn't take into account the possibility that you can be English/British without having been born here. If someone moved here at the age of 10, lived here since, and took nationality then they're English/British. Nationality is a product of where you live and with whom you identify, not what bit of land you were born on. If anything someone who moved here, likes it here, and took the nationality is more British than most us as they worked for it and wanted it. The rest of us were just lucky.

Great respect for people like KP, Mo Farah and Wilf Zaha - they make the country proud.

My view on football - going to a new country when ur an adult, & because u can get a passport u play 4 that national team - I disagree

Would he have turned Ryan Giggs down? Not a chance.

I know Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland hate this idea but I always would have preferred a British national team. I identify as British far more than I do as English. :(

Really? I don't think so. The individual FAs may be against it but I'm pretty sure the majority of football fans consider themselves British and would prefer a team to reflect that.

I'd say that person was English to, that's not what's being spoken of with janujaz, five years residency doesn't make him English imo.

No because there is an agreement between the home nations regarding nationalities apparently.

No I agree with that. In some respects he was set up but he isn't very smart so it's quite easy.
