I hope Telewest users will be totally up in arms IF NTL tries to impose caps, if you guys who use NTL were more organised then chances are you would not have had any caps too. :(

All due respect Atw what do you suggest?
When the two companies merge there will be one set limit as far as I know, but the rules will apply to everyone, whether they be ex ntl or ex telewest.
There are people on here who would suggest that no matter what camp you are in, ntl or telewest that any limit will apply to everyone, but what people can do is quite simple, if you get any correspondence from whatever the company will be named after the merger you have a choice to stay and accept the limits or move, I know what I would do in the situation, I just dont know what you mean when you say "if you guys who use NTL were more organised then chances are you would not have had any caps too. :("
I think that once the merger happens the two companies will be reading from the same script with regard usage, it is up to the customer to do something when the situation arises.

'you guys' *laughs*

I don't go over 30gb so why would i need to get organised?

And if you were able to read the thousands of posts on here that say they don't enforce their caps then you wouldn't bleat on about it like the rest of the whiners. What makes me laugh even harder is the bloke who you quoted just told you they don't enforce them, and you went on to moan about it still!

Guardian Sport today reports that the new cable giant with 5 million customers will launch a premiership football subscription (separated dedicated channel) for as little as £10 per month. This is provided, of course, that the European Commission enforce rules that no single broadcaster can have more than 50% of all matches. At last, I can only hope that Sky's monopoly is about to be broken. Duffy also believes that some matches should be free to air. Come on NTL/Telewest :tu: .

Decided to set the record straight with the BBC website, their story today on NTL's plans for the premiership did mention the word RIVAL this morning, but it doesn't now.

Thanks for your e-mail, much appreciated.

You make a very valid point here, and I have forwarded your e-mail to my
team to remind them of the peculiar situation that the UK's two cable
companies find themselves in.

yep, i just hope the EC plan comes aflot and does not sink, im sure mr murdoch will find a way for a get-out clause, but you have to think, if NTL want to maximise revenue then they have to maybe do a sublet of matches to SKY, if the EC decides to allow this i think it would be good news allround, NTL subcribers pay £10 per month for football, SKY subscribers still get the football, you have to remember the reach of SKY is far greater than NTL, but i suppose the highlights shows are up for grabs.

Only mentions the 'rivals' word once, a good article.

We moan about call centres in india, but i have yet to see a company who have adopted the idea backtrack.

I used to work for one of the Big 5 consulting companies several years ago before outsourcing became The Next Big Thing. The company I was at opened offshore centres in India, the Czech Republic and the Phillipines, and was working to get somewhere in China. This was years before other companies started doing it - after all, we were the ones selling the idea to the CEOs in various industries.

I've since seen that the results obtained after several years of using offshore centres don't match the expectations everyone had. The main consulting companies are not using offshore centres as much as they had anticipated all those years ago, as the long-term benefits are lower and the hidden costs are higher than expected. I imagine the same findings will be trickling down to those that have implemented offshore centres/outsourcing, so that the early adopters who initially followed our lead will now be coming to the end of their 5-year plans, and the beancounters will be doing the sums and scratching their heads.

Already, in the financial sector which I now work in, companies such as the Pru have determined that outsourcing/offshoring was a mistake, and have started taking steps to bring key services back in-house. I don't think they will be the only ones. That's not to say that outsourcing/offshoring was a flash-in-the-pan that will simply disappear, but I don't think it's going to be as prevalent as people initially thought.

Just my 2¢

On the subject of outsourcing it is obviously going to be detrimental especially when to other countries because end of the day you cut jobs people have less money to spend and hence the economy suffers making the company take in less money. Custom also gets lost to those who refuse to do business with a company that outsources to places like india.

Interesting idea, could help the investment to get them up to speed to compete fully with the Sky tv offering. Or they could just screw the investment to get better value from it when relisted in the UK.

could go either way, either squeeze for profits or invest to improve quality of service.

A few months ago it was also suggested that American cable companies like Comcast & AOL Time Warner might be interested in buying the combined NTL/Telewest once they had merged.

I'd put my money on UPC to be honest. They are the daddy in Europe and are all over the place :)

I second that, John Malone sold his shares in both NTL and Telewest to "assist" the merge going ahead, so maybe a deal was done way back then. Liberty Media AKA UPC, have always shown an interest in owning both companies.
