Except that the decision to charge per box originally was Sky's, not VM's...

Sorry denphone yes it would be i know, but virgin sign carriage agreements with companies supplying channels say if they signed for example a five year carriage agreement with sky to supply sports movies HD for £7 a month per box, unless sky say we will re-negotiate there would be very little room for vm to manoeuvre.

Not saying that is the case and i hope its not but there must be a written agreement around somewhere.

Sky 3D
Sky Atlantic
Food Network
MGM HD
Al Jazeera English
Investigation Discovery

So out of the six respectable channels Sky have that Virgin don't that aren't just +1 or HD, which are the ones your family "really enjoys"? All I see is one popular channel and a overhyped tech demo.

Our family watch..

CBS
Nickleodeon HD
Disney XD-HD
ITV2 HD
Natgeo wild HD

Amongst many other channels but thats a few that arent on VM.

Infact now you've made me stop and think about it, there is actually quite a lot of extra content in HD we all really enjoy. I did have VM tv fitted about 6 months ago I HAD vip50, but the family hated the loss of HD content and the tiny HDD ON THE v+HD was a real problem how VM got away with suppling such a small HDD in its PVR is a scandal. I missed the Sky sports red button and SKYSPORTS 3&4 in HD.

I'm now back with sky but hey, this is just slightly off topic lol.

Obviously if they were just watching the SD version they just couldn't enjoy the show.

Within the next 12 months I'd say;
Sky 3D
Sky Atlantic
Food Network
MGM HD
Al Jazeera English
Investigation Discovery

Not that anyone really wants those channels...

Oh and after all the title of the sub-forum is, you know, Virgin Media TV Service, that you don't want or have, so why are you here?

I still don't understand why they don't have RussiaToday or Aljazeera, its been said for over 1yr in these forums that those might be coming soon. There is clearly lots of bandwidth, they must surely be losing customers due to having alot less channels than sky.

I also would find it impossible to believe that VM is not loosing customers due to what seems to be VM's policy of not adding new television channels.

Right now, there must be at least half a dozen channels that I can receive through the aeriel, channels which are also available on Freesat as well as Sky Digital, which are not broadcasting on VM.

Its free for broadcasters to be on Freesat and Freeview and I'm sure Sky pay for most broadcasters if not all. Virgin have to host these channels themselves over the only uk wide DVB-C network that they have to monitor and control. Hence why Sky is littered with rubbish channels and Virgin only consists of known name channels from relatively known broadcasters.

It seems to me that VM regard TiVo as the holy grail and that it will make up for its deficiencies in other areas. :(

Sky already have all the channels and all the HD available, therefore they don't have anything to add. They have loads of channels that Virgin don't have that is why Virgin need to get their finger out.
