but the truth is this £49 HD promotion is having a bigger effect than anyone thought it would me included.
i was in town today and the Sky sign up booth had a que of about 30 people so its having a bigger impact than you and VM think it is.

and you know everyone was signing up for sky hd do you?

not to burst your bubble but majority of peopel will be dumping sky and virign soon to save costs, i might even neeed to dump virign to save costs even though i dnt want to and i want ot get sky hd but unless the recession shows signs of not getting worse and not turning into depression which there is a 90% chance it will then i cant get it even though i want hd but i am part of the minority

use your common sense you not going to sign for SKY+ for £79 when you can get the SKY+HD box £30 less are you especially in these times of credit crunch.

I would if I thought I couldn't afford the extra £10 a month for the HD mix which is required to get the box at that reduced rate...but again this is for another thread :)

I know the conversation of the last 24 hours was off topic, but at least it is more interesting than the 'on' topic conversation.

We could close this thread down as the answer to 'Coming soon to Virgin TV' is the same as the last two or three years.... nothing.

Dont read the thread if you dont like the topic. Be original and start a thread with the topics you like.
3 years of nothing = virgin 1, bbc hd, and other channels and thousands of VOD. They may not be what you like and there is never enough new stuff but its not justified to say nothing in 3 years.

Ok.. I take on board your comments, but really, Virgin has been left behind when it comes to using modern technology. We are at least a couple of years gone by since I was told by virgin customer services that we would get additional HD channels. Now, again, you are correct in saying that we have about an additional 30 channels (albeit half of them +1) but I do think if virgin want to keep their customers then they should start transmitting HD channels. I have been really patient with VM but I feel now that I will have to defect to Sky.

With regard to on-demand, yes it is useful once in a while, but that is just it, once in a while.

I don't want to upset the VM harcore faithful (of which I was one), but I am just getting a bit fed up of being given hope of additional HD channels.

its the same as teh sky channels there wont be that big a mass transfer to sky for hd channels maybe 50000 tops. they aint far behind but the majorityt of channels are sky owned so they aint that many non sky owned hd channel maybe 8 tops

Sorry to disappoint you but virgin have 53million have over half a million viewers to TV on demand - that's all of BBC iPlayer, and soon ITV on demand - not to mention 4, and Bravo plus other channels. I don't see Sky managing to come even close to that.

Sorry but cable just has the flexibility when it comes to providing services.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

Cable services should be light years ahead of Sky in terms of the services they should be offering. Virgin are beginning to wake up to this and Sky are now beginning to get a little scared. The next frontier in TV is on demand. Virgin are now pushing this and Sky have now there Sky Player. Sky are limited by Hard Disk Virgin are only limited by the licenses. For me the next step for Virgin On demand is movies like what sky are offering.

Regarding TV we all know Virgins Weakness. HD. They get this sorted and then push on Sky should not touch them however this is Virgin / NTL they have this situation were they snatch defeat from the yaws of Victory.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

i think ewveryone should wait until the pay tv review is over and if ofcom as the intial review suggest will make hitngs like hd and itneractive as part of the rate card and virign do not try to add it withina year then yes virgin have no interes in hd but if they do then they do but do not want to pay over the odds for a limit amoutn of cusotmers.

currently i think they have about 400000-500000 v+ users out of abotu 3.2 million so that gives a pebntation of about 15%

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

Yea! I must admit that I am also becoming a bit restless with regards to VM adding more H/D Channels. Even though I have been a loyal customer ever since the Telewest takeover, and have been told by customer services that they are indeed coming, the question is..........when?
Having all three of their services with them I feel loath to cancel our TV package, so will bear with it and wait and see what happens, and when?
Cheers, Smudger.
