Re: 20 Meg From June
I would ask around your area to see if anyone else is using the service, if you can find someone then ask how it is for them. Any telephone line based BB service is reliant on a number of factors for it to perform at it's peak levels, unfortunately if you aren't in the right place with the right line conditions etc then you can find the service sucks no matter who you go with. One big problem with taking a "free" service is that it gives you very little leverage for complaints unlike a paid for service.

so.. when you find the service sucks they dont even let you migrate! so you just end up with 12 months of misery! if you have a BT line try one of the ISPs that offer a 1 month contract to see what ADSL works like on your line! it may cost you extra but at least you wont end up having 12 months of terrible internet performance! if you dont have an existing BT line chances are it is a lot cheaper to stay with VM remember free isn't always the cheapest option! |

Incidently, I used to be able to access it via http://192.168.100.1/ but since Virgin have been in the mix this seems to no longer work. I'm guessing (probably incorrectly) that they have upgraded the firmware and removed this access? -Rx. |

Re: 20 Meg From June
Looks like I will be having fun when the 20 meg rolls out as I have just been informed today I am on a Over subbed system.
My speeds to day and for the last 3 days have been averaging 1st 512K took 1016 ms = 503.9 KB/sec, approx 4152 Kbps, 4.05 Mbps 2nd 512K took 844 ms = 606.6 KB/sec, approx 4998 Kbps, 4.88 Mbps 3rd 512K took 859 ms = 596 KB/sec, approx 4911 Kbps, 4.8 Mbps 4th 512K took 1000 ms = 512 KB/sec, approx 4219 Kbps, 4.12 Mbps Overall Average Speed = approx 4570 Kbps, 4.46 Mbps But spoke to a nice polite Tech chap and they are trying to move my cable modem onto another system but they are having trouble removing it from the system so they can put it on another ? Does not sound good at all at the moment for my 10 meg let alone the 20 meg. |
