Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)
I too have just got off the phone from CS and I was told that I would be contacted by NTL nearer the time and that I would have to pay £25 pounds for it
If anyone knows a way i can speak to someone who may be more knowledgeable it would be appreciated. |

I think if this convo was to happen in the pub, there would be a huge bar room brawl...
So, shall we continue this in the Nag's head then? |
Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)
Hi all i am new to this site and thought i would just mention what i have found out today about the 1m, 2m & 3m speed upgrades,
I spoke to NTL customer services today on the phone to enquire about the speed upgrades and when they are due, I was told that they dont have an exact date but it will happen within the next 2 months. They also told me that there will be a charge of £25 to everyone wishing to upgrade and that this was to cover the price of a new modem that you will require to recieve the new speeds i dont know if this just applies to my area or if its every area. Hope this has helped anyones curiosity on the matter. If i get anymore info il post on it wh1tey;) |

AFAIK, the £25 admin charge has been dropped (see here: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/article/...eases-update-3 ) Also, there is absolutely no need for a new modem. The existing ntl-supplied standalone cable modems (SACM) already out there will be more than adequate for the new speeds. However, people who use a Pace set-top box (STB) rather than a SACM for their broadband will require a new Samsung STB if they are going to be on the 2 or 3 meg service. I don't think this will be charged for. |

The existing modems will be fine I think they can handle upto 8MB maybe more. Also if you are on the 300K and want the new speed you will need to call them as moving to the new 1MB will have a cap of 3GB per month whereas the 300K doesn't. The other speeds will change automatically. hope that helps. |
Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)
These speeds sound all well & good as do the caps which seem quite reasonable but only if you stay focused on BT where NTL are drawing us all to look.
There are other providers that are offering speeds up to 8mb for no extra cost if the line allows with monthly caps of 30gb with an off peak time from 1am to 8am with a 230gb cap allowed during these times. Heres hoping NTL take note as these are offered on the BT network for £21.99p m |
