Not much can be said, really - the unfolding horror of it all; the incomprehensible hatred one human can have for another, for the slightest of "reasons"

Gotta agree there, saw it a few years back over a few history lessons, rather interesting.

It is an excellent film. Not particularly enjoyable (IMO) but that is, I think, an indication of how well it covers the more distiburing details of it's subject matter.

The last film I saw? 10,000 BC.

It's actually a lot like Stargate (the film minus the science fiction), also by Roland Emmerich. In a small way, the story also dovetails with the story of that film, but only because it is set around the time that the pyramids were constructed, and one of the characters hints that the people behind the pyramids weren't human.

Good points: Spectacular action scenes, and the scenes where they show the construction of the pyramids give an excellen sense of scale, both of the pyramids themselves and the number of people used in the construction.

Bad ponts: Takes an awful long time for anything remotely interesting to happen. My impantience wasn't helped by the fact that the cinema was full, and they hadn't even turned on the air vents, let alone the airconditioning. So, the room temperature was high.

Not enjoyable at all - often deeply upsetting. The utter horror of the ash falling like snow.

Outlaw (with Sean Bean and Danny Dyer) Utter rubbish, not helped by the fact that I waited up till well past 2am for anything interesting/exciting to happen. 1/10

Next (Nicolas Cage) This is probably his worst film to date, could have been so much better. Huge disappointment - 4/10

I'm a Legend. Gets the thumbs up from me.

Interesting how you could see the influence of the original Charlton Heston version, yet it was quite different too. Nice to see how they also explained why he was one of so few survivors.

It may be of the same genre as movies such as 28 Weeks Later, but I'm a Legend is far superior.

You should read the original novel by Richard Matheson - far superior to both the Will Smith & Charlton Heston movie adaptations :)

Although I do still like the movies.

Diary Of The Dead - HUGE, and I mean HUGE Romero fan. Didn't like it at all, to the point I cancelled my pre-order at Play. I willl give it another go as I am loath to dislike a Zombie film (NOTHING can beat Zombie films), let alone a Romero Zombie film, I hope it grabs me on second view.

The Bank Job.

Excellent British gangster thriller, we have had a good couple of years for home grown films.
Anyway not as good as rise of the foot soldier but still very entertaining and robust performances from the stars.

I thought starship trooper 2 was better than 1 as it was more a straight up sci-fi rather than comedy sci-fi.

Anyway...

30 Days of Night - basically, load of ancient vampires turn up for a little snacking on the people of a town that becomes dark for 30 days once a year.

I thought it was poor. It lept about too much - time passing quickly, then slowly. Also no real acknowledgement by the survivors that they were dealing with vampires, and none of the usual defences. Just went for beheading, which is a little tricky to accomplish with your throat hanging out. No religion neither - whole town without a single priest or vicar. One of the vampires said there was no God - but presumably said vampire comes from Hell, in which case there must be a heaven, and by extension, a God. One of two shock moments but on the whole, not very scary. Nice aerial shot of the carnage, which made me think of Warcraft.

A modern slasher movie with a bit of added intelligence - 5/10

Not as good as Raiders, but IMO still at least as good as Temple of Doom, & still an INDY MOVIE.

Plus easily far better than all the pretenders... Tomb Raider, Sahara, etc...and of course the awful National Treasure.

As for the
Spoiler:

... didn't have too much of a problem with that, really. OK, I'd have preferred the ending to be more like the original three, but I don't think
Spoiler:

'Death Proof'

this is the second in the 'double header' Grindhouse project which includes the 'Planet Terror' film I watched the other day.

It is a very different experience to 'Planet Terror' & more difficult to 'get' the idea it supposed to be a parody. However, while some of the dialogue scenes are a little slow, the car based action sequences are superb.

Benny - "Heh, you got me man, I ain't even married"

Ironically, I saw this film the night before my friend's stag do, and it was playing on the plane on the way home from his wedding... Sort of bookending the wedding.

Anyhow, although it was an enjoyable film, I took advantage of the fact I had loaded up my iPod with decent films, and fully charged it, and watched Terminator 2 on the way back.

I did hear a lot of complaints when we started the approach for landing and the pilot turned off 10,000 BC before it had finished.

Anyway, went and saw Indiana Jones tonight. Excellent film, well up to the standards of the others.

If you enjoyed Iron Man then you should enjoy this, as Marvel now have their own production company they are able to make the films the way they want. So there will be some great cross overs between the new films.

Managed to watch about half of it via Sky's box office thingy. £3.99 wasted. I like quite a lot of musicals, and there are some great songs in Sweeney Todd, but it lacked energy and the cartoon-violence meant that there was no sense of drama. Awful 2/10

I have seen this a few times now and just watched it again on Blu-Ray tonight and it still to me is a fantastic movie.

Its not what you would assume a musical would be like. All happy loving cheesy songs, its violent and about murder and stuff. For me its one of my fav musicals. Just my opinion though. An other Tim Burton hit.

Interesting. It may just be Sondheim - either love him or not - but it sounds like you came to the film with certain preconceptions, which I would not have had, and as a result, you got more from the film. For me, it should have been a dark tale of revenge but was more of a poor comedy-drama.

[edit] Actually, thinking about it, in turning the musical into a movie with a big-hitter like Depp in the lead role, it has probably reached new audiences who would not normally watch a musical. Suppose it has to be commended for that.

Always a joy to watch William Hurt, seems to be all I'll take away from the movie. Tim Roth's a fine actor but I felt his character wasn't as interesting as some of the others he's played. Norton was his usual alienated self.

Quite a clever film, it's about mass suicide kind of thing, and when you've seen it, you'll just want to kill yourself.

2/10 (the 2 is for the first 10 minutes of the film).

Saying that, it's very funny, but for all the wrong reasons though, from bad acting / script etc, for comedy value I'd give it a a good 8/10.

Also....

Shutter (unrated).

I think they spelt it wrong.

4/10

Across the Universe

Pretty good for a love story tied into the Vietnam war... But in a much different way to what you'd think. 7.5/10

Once Upon A Time In The West. 10/10.
On a par with The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. IMO the character of Harmonica is the best Charles Bronson's ever portrayed. Jason Robards' Cheyenne also ranks as one of my favourites.

It certainly is in certain areas and tbh it has been for a long long time. Every city or town has its own sub culture most "straights" would never know it was going on. For example there is a family in the town where I live where 2 of the older brothers go around local coke dealers armed with a gun and rob them This does not get reported to the police and this then does not get reported to the public. (BTW I do not know these people but I do know it has happened)

Watched Adulthood last night and i can see why they were made, Both films are really good and they do depict modern life for the teens,
No respect for anyone or anything.:erm:
The parents don`t have a clue what their offspring are upto at school or what problems they have because the children don`t tell them,.
It`s a great film in the sense that it tells you that no matter what you believe, going down the drugs and thugs, bullying road does`nt make you better than anyone else and that at heart, we`re all the same vulnerable people with needs.

I would actually give Hancock a 9/10. And I have had the opposite experience to you, most people I know thought it was so-so and I'm the only one I know who really liked it.
That being said it wasn't at all like I expected, I think it was actually better. infact the only reason I'm giving it a 9/10 instead of 10/10 is because I heard the original script was much darker and was redrafted to make it softer to appeal to the masses as the original was supposed to be too depressing (or too real more likeley). I think it would have been all the better for the added dark.

Utter classic movie.

Guess we all have different tastes, i would of given it a 9/10 if i hadnt read parts of the original script :D

Still, a great movie none the less, i dont know why some people dont like it.

I mean, like "the happening" for example, now that, i can see why people hate...

3/10

Yes..and it's full of really bad acting...

A script that seems none existant.

I fell asleep twice!

I thought wanted was a bit poor..... Visually had some good, if not far fethched stunts. Flipping the car over to shoot the guy through the sunroof was ridiculously OTT. I'd score it 5 out of 10 personally.

Hancock 8/10 - Pretty enjoyable and Will Smith was good. Interesting twist on the superhero theme.

Kung Fu Panda - 8/10 - Some good laugh out loud moments.

Henry Fonda was brilliant--excellent actor. Did enough westerns for my liking too. Loved his and Kirk Douglas' subversive camaraderie in There's A Crooked Man, another great western though not in the same style as Sergio Leone's. I haven't seen it in at least 8 years. Must do so soon.

Last movie I saw was with my father this afternoon: Papillon. We'd seen it together at least ten times before. 9/10 if you've never read the book. 7/10 if you have.

If they'd stuck to just remaking films it would have been funny, but instead they turned it into a feel good is the community great film.

WALL-E. 7/10.
Impressive. Pixar's got it together. Reminded me of James Thurber's comic strip The Last Flower (A Parable In Pictures). Would have scored more but the last twenty minutes fell flat. The opening cartoon, Presto, gets 10/10 however.
