Did I see a post that VM are changing to IPv6?? Will that mean that faster broadbands speeds could be reached and maintained during peak times?

Sorry, I know this was off-topic :-(

We have only get 5 ideas from the following list:

As always, thanks for the info MB!! Great news on the potential channel arrivals.:)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

Ah well good news with any channels launching to be honest though admittedly ill never watch CI HD or pawn stars HD. I'd prefer extra content such as spike or trutv just to tick them off.

In terms of this news being announced about virgin media is that about the new channels or is it because of internet speeds? Do we know when the announcement is?

i'm afraid you're right den. but when will the crunch occur where people start abandoning paying subscriptions? In theory if the prices keep going up due to sky and bt constqantly paying silly money there must be a limit for the customer to give up.

its just when that would happen.

imagine if everyone just abandoned sports subscriptions and bt and sky had to come crawling back with reasonable prices and would make them reconsider stupid bids in future.

Unfortunately i think the large majority of people will keep paying regardless :(

Been trying to get VM to add it for years, but its minority interest so is unlikely to materialise. Its FTA on satellite, & EPG'd on Sky, so a Sky "freesat", or a proper Freesat box manually tuned required.

If the full package together goes up by £2.50 then that will make it £36.75 pm on VM.

Ouch.

Sky Sports is already £29.25 on VM as I was paying £36.25 for it in HD a couple of months ago before I cancelled it. This rise will take it to £31.25 (or £38.25 in HD) which is getting stupid now.

One more nail in the VM TV coffin for me as Sky TV is becoming more and more attractive for my preference especially with some of the deals available at present.

Sky Sports SD pricing on the current bundles is £27.25 http://store.virginmedia.com/digital...ky-sports.html

However there isn't much Virgin Media can do in regards to the pricing of Sky Sports - the regulated wholesale price for Sky Sports SD 1 & 2 from 1st June is £25.34 http://media.ofcom.org.uk/analysts/regulated-prices/

So for the extra £3.91, Virgin give you 3,4,5 and F1

That bit isn't regulated so Sky can charge Virgin what they like for the additional channels. And it wouldn't be in their interest to make it the same price :)

Thanks for the reply Ben.

This is another irritating thing about VM in that they have different versions of the same bundle despite the included services being exactly the same. And obviously being on an "older" version costs me £2 a month extra for Sky Sports!

Some unkind people could also refer to it as a 'rip-off' maybe?

How difficult is it for VM to contact people that the price has changed for their current package an inform them of the details of the changes to the package?

Its all swings and roundabouts, I am very happy with being on the old Essential Family collection, could not care less about 152Mb broadband, getting this collection + Talk Unlimited for £50.69 plus line rental :)

That would involve caring. Which is something VM don't seem to do sadly.

But of course phoning up and saving the £2 by going onto the newer bundle would, almost certainly, land you with another 12 month contract.

Talking of caring, I have a Loyalty discount with VM which expires in August. I will call them when it's nearly time, but do you think they will let me have another one or will I have to pay the normal price until I'm eligible for another loyalty discount. I have been with VM for 5years and been on their top VIP package for about 3, so I'm paying them a fair bit each month ;)

Best to ring them and ask.

Worse thing is PB that as far as I am aware neither the package or price has changed with the exception of the Feb price rise (which increased the bundle price too) so I would be interested to know the difference between the "old" and "new" Big Kahuna bundles. Maybe Ben would be kind enough to shed some light on the difference?

I'd bank on you being correct John, a new contract would almost certainly be required. Be an interesting conversation that one though - "Please can I upgrade my Big Kahuna bundle from the old version to the new version". Be funny to see what the CS advisor would say to that! :)

Maybe this report will convince Virgin to add Spike to our listings!

http://www.mediaweek.co.uk/article/1...s-launch-night

Spike UK beats Sky Living with 89,000 average viewers on launch night

by Gurjit Degun

Spike UK, the new Viacom channel, launched last night and attracted an average of 89,000 viewers - a 0.67 per cent share of the overall audience.

Spike also outperformed fellow free-to-air channels including Drama, the UKTV channel, which had an average audience share of 0.6 per cent on Wednesday night (15 April).

The launch of Spike will be the first time that popular crime drama Breaking Bad will be aired in its entirety on British TV. It was shown between 11pm and 12am, and Spike said it had a 2.7 per cent audience share of 16- to 34-year-olds. It attracted 97,000 viewers on average; a 1.2 per cent share of the audience.

The new channel will also air new series of The Walking Dead as well as British content, including Police Interceptors Unleashed, a show about extreme police car chases fronted by the actor and ex-footballer, Vinnie Jones.

Spike is already a channel in the US.

The free-to-air channel beat pay-TV brands such as Sky Living, which attracted a 0.66 per cent share on average, and Sky Atlantic which took 0.33 per cent of the audience.

haha brilliant

Sky should let VM have Atlantic (at a reasonalble price, of course) to improve the dismal figure of 0.33%. It could also make the chanel more valuable in terms of advertising revenue to be gained from it.

The trouble is nowadays TV controllers are too obsessed with ratings thus they often appeal to the lowest common denominator in some cases.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

Virgin Media blames TV rights auction for rising Sky Sports prices

Virgin Media is telling its TV customers that they'll soon need to pay more for Sky Sports and Sky Movies. From June 1st, these extras will go up by £2 per month and 50p per month respectively, due to increases in the amounts Sky is charging Virgin Media.

Normally, any price rise would paint Virgin Media as the villain, but here, the company is using the decision as ammunition against Sky and the Premier League. The argument being that if the auctions were set up differently, these increases could be avoided: broadcasters wouldn't need to bid so much, and more companies would have access to live TV broadcasting. The knock-on effect would be cheaper wholesale prices between broadcasters and cheaper subscriptions for viewers. In short, Virgin Media is saying that it doesn't want to increase its prices, but with the current setup its hands are tied.

Sky's response? Yes, its wholesale costs have changed, but Virgin Media ultimately sets the price for its own customers. A Sky spokesperson said: "This year we'll bring customers even more of the TV and movies they want to watch as well as an unrivalled choice of top quality sport. How much Virgin choose to charge their customers for this is up to them."

It also has just a little bit to do with how much Sky are charging VM and the profit margin it leaves them with!

Agree they're both too expensive , I love how VM say they're only increasing Sports subscribers costs its a fairer way , funny my family members had over a £5 increase in February none of them take Sky Sports.

I hope they do, it will be the only way to drive the prices down.

It's a shame Sky can't/won't offer a sports package that does not include football.

Would it really be that difficult to do?

If they offered all their other sport content for about £10-£15 per month, they would easily get my money.

It's happening already mate people are slowly cutting the cord so to say and using online, on demand and freeview/freesat services.
Already in the US cable companies have seen this and have started to offer online tv services dish offer sling, hbo offer hbonow, verizon are soon to launch a service, comcast are ready to launch a service too.

I notice Sky are increasing the cost of HD for their customers too. What a rip off! Surely it`s time they dropped this charge? Just how much more does it really cost Sky to provide HD channels? And would this cost increase or decrease as technology in general tends to come down in costs over the years? I suspect this is just another way for Sky to squeeze a bit more out of customers. And yes I know Virgin have a HD charge within their bundles before someone comes on here to remind me!

Yes the charge is £7 extra for Sky Sports/Movie channels HD channels with Virgin whilst all the other HD channels are in their XL pack.
