My MRI scan together with my defib switch off appointment procedure due to take place on my next birthday has been cancelled! Reason heart technicians are busy doing other things prior to crossing to other hospital in Leeds.
Solution (which I suggested earlier) why not do the tricky bit at the heart hospital then continue with the MRI scan in the same location. [NHS thinking O'H]

It was the initial thought of nothing to eat after 8.00pm the night before, then a full quota of 10tabs plus liquid medication before setting off on a 6.45am bus ride.

Trivial compared to many examples on here but...

... the awful 'heavy metal music' which accompanies so many programmes on the various American channels. Whether it's classic car restorations, storage unit auctions, custom cars, property development, bounty hunting or just plain fishing there seems to be an obsession with this dreadful noise. It really comes to something when your eyes are seeing a guy quietly fishing by a beautiful country river but instead of hearing the birds singing, your ears are assaulted by the sort of noise a group of teenage wannabe musicians might make in a suburban garage.

Enough FGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed. In theory, it's easy to not eat or drink for a given amount of time (such as 12 hours), but then come time to do it, you are already thinking how hungry or thirsty you are..

Just because I wear glasses, don't assume that you can talk down to me like I have a brain injury and have learning difficulties. You might find that my response is not polite. I DO have a brain, I am quite bright, I am not retarded in any way shape or form.

Also, how the bloody Hell can you miss a 5'10 man who weighs over 110 kilos on the street and walk straight at me? Then when I refuse to move look at me like I am a piece of dog muck on the bottom of your shoe. Again, you will find that I will not be polite to you.

Both happened this morning whilst out. Makes me sick.

People turning up without letting me know first - that really grinds my gears!

And the occupational therapy woman!

Less said about her the better. This is the second time she has suggested Natalie gives up work to look after me so we get funding to have the house adapted to my needs.

I suspect the woman means well dilli but to suggest Natalie gives up work is decision for you and Natalie to make. I don't understand as to why Natalie would need to give up her job for the house to be adapted to your needs, I think that should be done for you anyway. If something can be done that would make life easier for you IMO should be done whether Natalie is in employment or not.

The funding / cost of widening all the doors and putting wet room in is quite a lot.

Natalie earns £5 a week more than the threshold to get funding from the housing / council.

Anyway no, she won't be giving up work so we can get the work done.

denphone 13-07-2015 14:24

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

Sadly for quite a few they are just above the threshold Dilli but luckily for us we were not and thankfully we have a wet room and other adaptations fitted in our place which have helped me quite a bit.

l can certainly understand though why Natalie does not give up her job though as its her bit of independence.

Just got in touch with Swinton insurance on Twitter for my Nan. Over the last fortnight, she has had 2 letters a day from them wanting her to take out car insurance. Fat chance, not after the way they sold her details onto car accident compensation firms the other year. Still getting calls about it 2.5 years later.

Seriously considering making a complaint about my blood test yesterday morning. Noticed yesterday afternoon that the thumb in my left hand was numb, and as the evening progressed got stabbing pain down in the forearm of left arm. Site of injection was sore as well, and now this morning felt so rough nearly went to A&E with it.

From reading the Internet, sounds like she has nicked a nerve in the arm. But apparently it can anywhere from 2 weeks to 12 months for it settle down! Not going to be happy if it takes that long to go away.

Mark it might not be as bad as you may think.

My neighbour (the nice one not tree lady) built an extension and it was not that bad Mark honestly, in fact it was up pretty quickly to wind and water tight, then the work started on the inside. If I had too say what was the loudest part of the works that would be the digging out the foundations which was done in the morning then the cement mixer came to fill in the hole.

Just try and remember it will come to an end, hopefully sooner than you think.

My mother (86) had a fall outside yesterday and was found by the next-door neighbour after a while when she couldn't get up. She's now in hospital for observation about a slow heart rate. Nothing broken or even bruised thankfully.

Real problem is that neither I nor my two sisters can get down there (West Cornwall) at the moment: I have no transport so the only option would be a very expensive anytime train ticket. I also have work that needs to be done and both sisters have business commitments that they can't cancell or cover short term. We'll have to try and arrange some transport for when the hospital discharges her. :(

Thanks Den. My younger sister is liaising with the hospital as she's done this before and quite frankly is much better at it than me as PR is her forté whereas I'm just a PBE.

Sorry to hear about your mum heero.

MY dad had always had low blood pressure and a slow heart rate but in his eighties it became a problem and I can't count how many times I charged over to his home 15 miles away to sort out his latest fall. He eventually had a pacemaker fitted at 86 and this worked a treat.

Having this happen to your mum when you are so far away must be terrible worrying so I hope she is relatively unscathed and that she can return home soon.

They've got her in the cardiac unit at the Royal Cornwall (Trelisk). My older sister has got cover now (She's in the restaraunt trade) so she's going down tomorrow and will stay for some days until we're sure Mum's OK. My younger sister is keeping us updated.

Drives me nuts but I usually transfer dried goods like that to sealed jars anyway. Most of mine came curtesy of Douwe Egberts coffee. Expensive but very nice reusable jars with glass stoppers makes it worth while.

I'll add peel off coverings on pre-packed meats and bacon etc that don't peel. They also seem to be using a new kind of plastic on some that stretches rather than tearing or peeling. Horrid.

I don't thnk they ever test out packaging on real people.

Your post makes me wonder dilli how many hospital appointments are missed on a monthly basis, due to absolutely no fault of the patient. All because of the patient transport lets them down and it's not only the patients time being wasted but also the Doctors/Specialists.

I'm so sorry that your transport let you down and I'm delighted that the hospital realizes that it was out with your control that you missed your appointment. Let's hope and pray all goes to plan next week.

Just spent the last hour persuading my PC that it wants to work. Turns out that the left click on the mouse has stopped working. Have replaced mouse with spare, but I now have two of these wireless USB connectors plugged in . One for the mouse and one for the keyboard. Both are Logitech so you would think they would condescend to work from one port.

If it is a 'Logitech Unifying receiver' and both mouse and keyboard are compatible then all you need to do is go into the options and set it up to use just the one.

Thanks for the information. When I started up the PC just before reading your message it muttered something about Logitech unifying software. So after reading your message I now have everything working on one receiver.

My mum is still NBM, as there is still a small leak, but on Tuesday she might have to go back into surgery, then ICU.

She still will probably be in hospital in 11 days when my sister goes on a 14 day holiday.

Then still in when she comes back :)

My sister hasn't told our dad that she might might have to back to surgery until it happens as our dad will think the worst.

I just need this crap to end, I don't care I'm spending £25 a week on the tube, and food on top of that. I'm even helping my sister pay for her tube fares.

Even if it cost £50 a time I would still do it.

Oh Hom3r I'm truly sorry to hear that your Mum may need to have further surgery just try and stay strong for both your parents. I agree with you and your sister's decision not to tell your Dad as naturally he will think the worse as that is what we tend to do.

What ever you have to do,or spend, will all be worth it when you get your Mum home. Just wish for all your sakes it was sooner rather than later. <<hugs>>

Telling your Dad about the possibility of a further visit to the operating theatre at this stage would just too much, if the hospital is holding fire on making a decision then I guess there may be a chance she won't need one and your Dad will have been put through a lot of worry needlessly.

Stay strong sweetie.

Jo

Hom3r, our thoughts are with you and hope your mum is better soon. Having a parent in hospital and far away is really worrying.

My younger sister is keeping us updated with my mothers progress. Heart and BP are now OK but she seems to be suffering from confusion and the hospital want to keep her in under observation. :(

It must be so very hard when a parent is ill or in hospital and not living close enough to just pop in and visit them. I know my brother in law finds this to be the hardest part of when his parents are in hospital or ill.

I feel very blessed that I live only a 15 minutes car journey away from my Mum and Dad as I can only imagine what a worry is to be far away and the helpless feeling you must feel at being such a distance away.

I hope your Mum gets better soon heero.

Arrghh... Been waiting in my office all day for a Courier to phone me, as Apple swapped one of our deliveries at work for one for Fremantle Media and UPS were supposed to contact me to arrange a swap.

Instead, I leave my office for 10 minutes to take a file to another deparment, and the courier turns up, waits a couple of minutes, then buggers off without leaving a contact number or reference. Not happy.

House got robbed yesterday. :(

Bizarrely they took key chains and car keys but not the cars. Didn't take much from the house itself either, just small pickings (and my Kindle :( )

Lack of joined up care in one of our local hospitals.....

I was admitted late last Friday night, and one of the outcomes was that I was fitted with a catheter and bag (joy...).

When I was discharged on Sunday, they told me an appointment would be made for approx. 10 days after the catheter was fitted, to remove it and scan the area to check if everything was OK. As the appointment was going to come through the post, I left it until Thursday to check up - I found out that no communication had happened between the Surgical Assessment Ward and Urology, but they promised they would contact them and arrange an appointment. I rang up today to follow up on this, and found out nothing had been done, and no appointments could be made because no one was available to do so in the Urology Ward (I even badgered the direct number out of them, which was not too easy).

Now I am being told that an appointment can't be made until Monday (which was when I should have been seen), and it will probably be in two weeks from Monday.

Joy....

Sorry to hear your house getting broken into as it is a terrible feeling knowing that someone has invaded the privacy of your home.:(

Had something similar here so know how you feel. There are times when a whole lot of good work in the NHS is spoiled by what amounts to some very amateurish admin. work. Co-incidentally when I was in at Easter, the quacks kept wanting to fit me with a bloody catheter despite me protesting (rightly) that I didn't need one. I wonder whether it's a default approach with men of a certain age... :erm:

We recently spent what seemed like an age looking for a hospital dept. which didn't exist (the details on the appt. letter were wrong) and then trying to organise an operation assessment via a phone number which nobody ever answers. Grrr....

Commiserations. Happened to us some years ago but the burglars were disturbed by my answer machine going off and dropped a lot of stuff in their haste to leave.

Just a bit of advice. It's quite a shock and it may well be some days before you discover everything that's been taken, possibly even longer. We found exactly that and it was a very sobering experience discovering other small items which were missing and wondering what else they'd taken. As for the keys, it goes without saying that if they have the keys, the cars are vulnerable and you need to let your insurers know ASAP if you haven't done so already. It's not unknown for burglars to return a day or two after a burglary so changing locks etc. also a good idea and checking that no ID/finance related documentation has been taken. Honestly you think you'll immediately notice what's been taken but the shock to the system makes that very hard indeed in my experience.

I feel for you - I've only had two in and that was twice too often!!!!

You're a stronger person than me if you're coping with it still.

I hope they catch the burglars. For people like them, I do believe that Sharia law needs to be brought in here in the UK. Threaten them with a hand or 2 being cut off and they wouldn't be so cowardly again.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

I had mentioned in an earlier post that following heart problems I had a stent fitted to keep open a blocked blood vessel to my heart.
To ensure the blood didn't clot I was put onto a 12month course of a drug which if I scratched myself blood came out like no tomorrow.
Since stopping this drug I have been the centre of attention to doctors wanting to do invasive examinations.
Had the camera down into my stomach, camera up where the sun doesn't shine, now MRI scan next week at 08.00hrs after my defib unit is switched off.
So that just leaves gallstone removal and the one which all males dread - prostate biopsy. (sufficient to say I won't say what/how this is done, but it stings like hell)
