I really can't figure out what Arsene can see in Cabaye. Brilliant introduction to English Football followed up by a less than average 40 games. It's not just Cabaye either though because Ben Arfa is often touted to be much better than he actually is. He's inconsistent and so overrated its a joke. Run run run and out of play...repeat for 90 minutes. They seem to be handing out the world class title to about anyone these days.

I think Moyes wants to write the rule book according to him.

Penalty every 30 minutes for man Utd.

Opposition has a player sent off by halftime if Man utd haven't scored 5 goals by then, and another player sent off for every 10 minutes after that. When it is down to just goalkeeper (See rule 36 re Moyes time, extending the game until Man Utd score 2 goals more than opposition) then it goes to penalties, keeper must play with one leg tied up.

Probably more I could think of :D

Didn't see the United penalty shouts, but was pleased Cole got nothing. He went on for another 2 or 3 steps before going down. I'm shocked he wasn't booked for diving.

Cabaye offers something different from midfield. He has a bit of bite to his game and is able to shoot, something we haven't got. we're also short on numbers and he looks a decent shout tbh. I haven't followed Newcastle to comment on consistency, is it a case of him not being able to carry the team week in week out? do you reckon he'd be a different player at Arsenal because of the quality around him? Pardew cannot call Cabaye world class at this moment in time, the transfer is a somewhat gamble. it reminds me a little of the Arteta transfer. Arteta wasnt always world class for Everton but you knew he had quality.

Arsenal could indeed make him look a better player but Wenger needs to get him playing more good games than bad ones. We seem to get stuck with one good game in 20 from him. If Arsenal are going to pay £20 million for him then it's one of the worst transfers of the summer but around the £12 million mark for a player that becomes as good as his first season then you have one of the best signings of the summer.

The actual problem now is getting Yohan Cabaye out of Newcastle for less than £20 million, papers claim Cabaye will force his way out and force Ashley to lower the asking price by refusing to play, they're so wrong. Mike Ashley will let Cabaye rot in the reserves before he's made a fool of and continue to fine him. Cabaye should have known better than to play Mike Ashley.

On topic of this I'd like to thank Carlos Tevez for paving the way for players to do what they fancy when they want to move elsewhere, real professionalism by Carlos. Cabaye and now Bale seemingly.

If rotting in the reserves is Ashley's plan who'll look the bigger fool when he leaves on a free at the end of the season.

Cabaye when he realizes his contract still has 2 years left to run at that point.

Quote:

Cabaye’s behaviour does not paint him in a favourable light as he has effectively gone on strike at St James’ Park in the hope he can bully the club into selling him.
It is not a tactic that is likely to work with owner Mike Ashley adamant he will not sell for less than the £20 million he quoted Arsenal when rejecting their opening bid of £10.2 million last week.
That could leave Cabaye in an extremely awkward position. Newcastle fans can forgive a lot, but disloyalty and a lack of effort to the cause are cardinal sins, and the player must hope Arsenal want him enough to meet Newcastle’s terms for a transfer or beg for forgiveness.
Newcastle have two important factors in their favour. The three years remaining on Cabaye’s contract and the fact the former Lille star wants to play for France in next summer’s World Cup and cannot afford to be ostracised from his club for any length of time
.
“If Arsenal want to sign the player they’re going to need to sign him soon because at some point we’re just going to say no,” Pardew said. “That’s a position we’ll get to in a couple of days unless something gets resolved.
Factor in his desire for wanting to play in next year's world cup and that's checkmate for Mike again. Cabaye has 2 options, apologize to Newcastle and the fans or pray Arsenal will pay up.

This is the story of a football club being ridden to hell, we don't like it and there's nothing we can do about it except sit back and watch the whole thing burn to the ground, welcome to Newcastle United, the most dysfunctional club in England.

Cabaye brought this upon himself, Don't get me wrong, if Arsenal suddenly bid for me I'd want to get away from the fire asap but the way he's went about it has been terrible. Representatives were apparently in London last night to discuss a £16 million deal, take that with a pinch of salt though. Papers say £20 million then £16 million but the only man in the country that knows anything (Mike Ashley) never says a word..

Adz I think TD meant by throwing Cabaye in the reserves he'll have the right to get out of his contract at the end of the season.

on WC2014. Cabaye will have chances to impress during friendlies. Cabaye does have options but he will have to stay strong if he wants to take this path.

Yohan Cabaye has nothing in his contract about first team football, no Newcastle player does or likely will in the near future. So unless the FA for whatever reason have made a new rule stating any player that does not play has a right to leave when he fancies then he'll be waiting his 3 years.

The only clause in Cabaye's contract is a £34 million buy out clause.

The FA haven't it's European law and it's been around a while, the concept of rotting in the reserves no longer exists, don't play him and he can go on a free although I seem to recall something about him having to pay up the rest of his contract first, in this case though with no transfer fee to pay the signing club would happily cover that and more with a bumper signing on fee.

What about having him sit on the bench. Completely in the dark about such law but what happens if said player refuses to play?

He'll just keep on being fined if he refuses to play and those matches shouldn't form part of the percentage that entitles him to leave on a free, same as they didn't for Tevez. I think the bench will be ok as he's been selected but he'll be a disruptive presence being around the squad on matchday, better to get shot of imo for as much as the club can get to a French team if possible, that's the only moral high ground available to your club here, not to sell him to the club that's turned his head.

Damien 27-08-2013 18:59

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Yeah if the whole thing spun out of control Cabaye probably could leave next year much cheaper. Arsenal are probably done with this anyway as they're not, rightly, going to go as high as £20 million for Cabaye so Newcastle have to hope PSG do but latest rumours are they pulled out for the same reason. Unless Newcastle cave in he'll stay there. I would rather Arsenal got Di Maria and such anyway.

I'd rather Fellaini and Sakho. 2 powerhouses :(

tbh I can somewhat understand the interest in signing Flamini and Cabaye, moving Sagna etc. but theres no getting around Arsenal needing a quality AM that can play across the field, a CF and GK.

---------- Post added at 19:14 ---------- Previous post was at 19:13 ----------

Guillem Balague & Gerry Armstrong on Revista De La Liga...

On Bale. Tottenham pee'd off that RM and RM sponsors moved forward selling shirts, erecting stage and Bale and Perez were together in Marbella so Levy halted talks and moved the 'goalposts'. RM have now adjusted their offer too. RM don't want to break Ronaldos record fee because Ronaldo has raised concerns.

RM are right to be annoyed its taking soo long but from Tottenhams point of view you can somewhat understand they want to sort their own business out before this is signed off so they dont get ripped by the clubs their buying from.

Speaking of other RM players. Di Maria interest from Arsenal. Ozil interest from England. Theres no concrete interest but Balague feels RM will go in for Suarez if players are lost and to replace Higuain.

Ozil at the weekend was subbed, went straight down the tunnel got changed and got on the coach and moaned. Di Maria and Ozil want to stay at RM. RM want to give Isco more time to play which will limit others. If they go for Suarez then they will want to fund it from sales.

On Mata. Jose wants him to stay at Chelsea. Atletico Madrid reckon Chelsea will sell. The player feels unwanted.

Thanks. Had no idea this could happen. The situation just got a whole lot more confusing now. I agree with others though I could see Mike flogging him to PSG for half the price he demanded from Arsenal. Mike Ashley might be grinning but if he fails to move and suddenly starts playing again what kind of reception will he receive. But you're right it's better to get rid asap. I don't care if he goes though. I get annoyed when players are rated higher than they are. Especially annoyed when it's our own and some fans worship him like a god.

Just another normal day on tyneside.

Plopadopalous is staying at Schalke Den. I don't think they want to sell and the player doesn't want to move. Besides, he's only 21 which is a tad young for a commanding centre half.

Tough one as it's probably the most difficult position to fill. There aren't many decent centre-haves around. I don't really agree with the way Rodgers sets the team out to defend so my idea of a good one wouldn't really fit-in with our current style of play but hey he's the one being paid to manage the team.

Shawcross is one of the best around at the moment and I've always liked Brede Hangeland and Jonas Olsson. In terms of recent, mooted targets don't really like Ashley Williams as he's a gobby blert and I don't think Toby Alderweireld is good enough although he's miles better than Coates!

So heres an article saying Newcastle and Everton are offering £8million for James McCarthy who Wigan value at £15million.

How long ago was it Everton called Uniteds bid for two of their players "derisory and insulting" because it was less than what they valued the players at? Strange how the media haven't picked up on this...

Probably the best news Newcastle fans will hear all summer, you have no idea what this guy can do to a team. He can single handedly revive Newcastle and I believe the key to Newcastle's success the season before last was all on Demba Ba.

Get a replacement for Cabaye and try out Demba Ba and Cisse again and let's start firing.

Wouldn't be too quick to believe this though as Newcastle officials have flown out to France to speak with Gomis again.

Inflation but looking at his stats Roma have probably sold him beliving he can step up. averages here.. 11/12 he was performing against the lower Serie A teams. 12/13 he started stepping up performing against mid side team. now 13/14 you'd think he could step up again.. possibly but moving and all may stall his development.

No need for sorry, that's football. As a kid all I'd get was Man Utd forced on me by my old man and uncle, so I supported Chelsea instead. Cheers denphone. I'm just an old school Chelsea fan who's seen it all at the Bridge. And whilst I might not be totally happy about the way we've done things the last 10 years, I'll happily enjoy it. Yes, there are starting to become limited options, as selling clubs won't be able to spend the dosh they get. some will want just the money (Real?) but others might baulk at doing business so late and not having a replacement.
That sounds like Real is their area of purchase, si signor? :D

There aren't anymore excuses for Arsene to use. This summer was all set for him to sign players, kick on, win something and earn a new contract in the process but everythings just falling apart for him. Just a continual decline. That said I'm still optimistic we'll get business done.

btw Chelsea didn't ruin the league or Arsenals chances of winning anything. Its greedy Wenger wanting everything his way. :)

My worry is the same as yours in most ways and Arsenal in my opinion have to spend big on the right players because the other big clubs are just getting stronger and stronger and before you know it qualifying for the CL will become a increasingly uphill struggle.

I think he'll be a decent addition to the squad. He should know all about the club, even if a lot of the players are different to his last spell there. It's obvious that more depth is still needed though. In my opinion anyway.
