It is not a good sign indeed. I too will not be adding BT Sport to my subscription to VM if it is extra which it looks like it will be.

I would drop Sky Movies but it is only a tad more with Sky Sports and well I rather like Sky Movies.... :-)

126 games on Sky is it? Really don't need the BT pack. Will miss the Italian football huely but it's not worth the subscription.

Theres no way I would pay £113 a month in anycase.

I Suppose if sports your thing, then fair enough, there so much money involved nowadays, especially football, they can charge what they want.

It's amazing how that price creeps up on you mate. Think I was £70 odd a couple of years ago. In fairness my landline and Internet are with Virgin. HD premium channels and TiVo push the price up, also think we've had 4 rises in 12 months or so. Agree it's a frightening figure:(

Ouch! that's not good. It might be worthwhile remembering this experience next time you are discussing how willing Sky are to make their channels available to VM. As you have just found out, with Sky, things aren't always as straight forward as they might seem.

Welcome back...

Several things to comment on.
IF ESPN, if rumours are true that BT have bought all the rights to football etc channels, then the contract signed with VM should qualify it foe FREE as part of the contract, l don't know how long the contract was for maybe Media Boy can advise on that one.

It will be a big on Friday when the Sky engineer calls to collect equipment - he touches my Dish l will sue Sky, it belongs to us NOT Sky.

Secondly, the deal that l had with Sky was Free install, dish and Cable. But the stuff was already there, l was with them for 12 years, then went to Freesat. I don't like being treated like mug with Mug, if l am told up front what is happening and my wife agrees, then that's fine. But to find out afterwards the costs, then that is it, l was told everything for £60.00 per month. Channels, Anytime etc, then they told us we needed BT Open Reach etc and that was it, it would have cost us nearly £80 per month, no way.

The ESPN deal with Virgin Media is set to end by the end of July 2013.

If BT Sports did launch Three Sports channels - let say on March 1st.

Only The stream that ESPN did use on Sky will only be seen or drop from Virgin Media.

Well, having a look at the first day of transmission on Virgin, I can see loads of that You Are What You Eat rubbish, but one of my childhood crushes is on there as well so I will be recording that. So apart from the YAWYE rubbish, I'm pleased about this channel launch. Not worth the price increase on its own though.

The Style Network isn't my idea of a great channel however it's one of my wifes favourites. It's aimed at a female audience so I can understand why it might not float your boat. Good to see Virgin catering more to their female customers.

May get slaughtered here but I think the vast majority of television is geared toward women. X Factor and Dance type shows, soaps, weight/health/food type shows, freakin Glee and that Bloomin Banjo guy:mad::mad::mad:

Hey!
I sent a post earlier this month about if Liberty Global bought out Smallworld Cable and WightFibre and merged them with VM to form a sole British cable company if the broadcasting contracts with broadcasters will be re-signed and may even get the channels they broadcast and we don't. If you have forgotten the links:confused:, here they are:
http://www.smallworldcable.com/Cable...timate-TV-Pack
http://www.wightfibre.com/tv/factual

If you have any comments about this topic, don't hesitate to put any comments on this thread:angel:!

No, I mean when I was roughly 10 I was forced to watch the rubbish my best friends older sister wanted to watch. She was into all the American stuff, so Nickelodeon was on pretty much everytime she was there and I was.

So I got hooked on rubbish like Sister Sister with the Towry twins. They have a show on Style Network, that it what I was referring to about one of my crushes being on.

Probably not until the contracts expired or were renegotiated, at which point they'd either be available across the combined network or dropped.

However... there's no indication that any such buyout or merger will take place.

Possibly. Or it could be because ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD are due to be added first https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2013/02/1.gif [before Universal HD & Animal Planet HD]

l think as MM and some others pointed out the other day in that there seems to be a clear plan now with ESPN disappearing from the XL pack come the end of July and thus with the channels that have arrived so far and with more to arrive in the coming months so by the time August comes they are hoping that customers will not desert the XL pack in droves once ESPN disappears.

Isle of Wight cable has that that channel, so does Sky so l cannot see why we dont have it.

Last channel launch on Virgin Media from CSC Media was True Entertainment on March 1st 2011.

So deal may not be up until March 1st 2014...

Assuming Animal Planet HD, Universal HD and the ITV HD channels are all confirmed that's much more like it from Virgin. Would still like to see Nat Geo Wild HD added, and of course the missing Sky HD channels - not holding out much hope for the Sky ones though.

Actually it is still owned by Square 1 Management. Sony are simply supplying a programme block to the channel, they don't own it. (The programme block being the same as that on their own channel, More>Movies.)

But If I was Virgin:

116. ITV2 HD
117. ITV3
118. ITV3 HD
119. ITV4
120. ITV4 HD
174. ITV2 +1
175. ITV3 +1
176. ITV4 +1
178. Sky Livingit +1

It wouldn't be the first time that channel positions have been tentatively announced but have actually appeared at a different location at launch.

Your layout does look slightly better, although why did you move Sky Livingit +1 from 160 to 178? :p:

Actually it's been a long time since I compared L to XL. Have to agree that if ESPN drops out of XL in the summer, XL's main selling point is HD. Minus the HD channels, below is a full list of channels that are on XL but not L.

Liverpool FC TV
Motors TV
Watch+1
Alibi+1
Comedy Central+1
CBS Reality
CBS Drama
Horror Channel
FOX
DMAX+1
Comedy Central Extra
Disney XD
Disney XD+1
Nick+1
Nick Junior
Nick Jnr 2
Disney Channel
Disney Channel+1
Disney Junior
Boomerang+1
Cartoon Network
Discovery Travel & Living
Good Food +1
Discovery Home & Health +1
Discovery Turbo
National Geographic Wild
National Geographic
National Geographic+1
History
Military History
Crime & Investigation Network
Bio
Eden+1
Animal Planet+1
Discovery Science+1
Discovery History+1
MTV Rocks
MTV Dance
TV5

So that's a difference of 39 channels. 10 of the channels are for kids, 11 of the channels are +1, 2 of the channels are free to air on Freesat and 1 is foreign.

If you aren't subscribing to XL for HD, or ESPN which is likely to leave the package in the summer, what are you subscribing to it for? I admit it's great for kids programming and offers up a more varied documentary choice however beyond that it's not exactly a collection of WOW channels. Is it really worth the extra money?

It's definitely becoming Virgins HD package.

I think it's only identified as XL HD because the channels aren't available to XL subscribers with SD boxes.

Does anyone know how many XL customers don't have access to HD due to having old SD boxes? If ESPN drops out of XL in the summer I suspect these particular customers more than any other will have good reason to complain their package has been devalued. No amount of new HD channels over the coming months will appease these people. That is of course unless Virgin replace with BT Sports.

Am on XL, hardly even catch the games on ESPN HD as work a lot of weekends. Spoke to SWMBO and her daughter is going on 12 so less attraction for 'kids' to us.
Could easily drop a level on TV but no doubt VM will find a way to shaft us as usual..

You may as well include the RTÉ digital radio channels under the RTÉ radio listing, they are probably as likely / unlikely to appear as the rest:

Pretty much fox, comedy central extra and ESPN are the only things I'd miss - but in the same way they're easily in my top 5 watched channels.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

Does anybody know if Virgin Media are trying to secure any new On Demand deals. I would like to see more back catalogue of channels shows. Also does anyone know what has happened to ITV On Demand? My Mum has BT vision and they seem to be getting more and more added.

Now Fixed.

You may as well include the RTÉ digital radio channels under the RTÉ radio listing, they are probably as likely / unlikely to appear as the rest:

http://www.rte.ie/digitalradio/index.html
We can only get the RTE Radio Channels that broadcast in the UK on other networks. As far as I know only the following are broadcasting in the UK:

-RTÉ 2fm
-RTÉ lyric fm
-RTÉ Radio 1 (Also Broadcasts in Ex-Telewest areas).
-RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta

I know, I remember reading about it on digitalspy I think. And it never materialised.

From what l know ITV is increasingly putting a lot of their on demand content behind the paywall.

How do you get 45 free HD channels ?

Whatever way you look at it VM are charging for HD.

Well, not whichever way you look at it, muppetman. You could take the view that VM introduced HD channels with no extra charge. I certainly don't recall prices going up to account for HD channels (except for Sky Movies and Sky Sports).

Even with SM and SS, I am no longer charged extra with the VIP Collections package I have just signed up to.

Obviously, the costs are taken account of by VM in some way, but I think they are still correct to say that they don't charge extra for HD channels.

I don't blame them, but what are VM doing to make those facilities available to us? And where is Lovefilm/Netflix? I like the direction that VM are taking us but it takes oh, so long!

Indeed it can seem like a 1500 metre snails race sometimes and as far as Lovefilm/Netflix are concerned it seems we are still on the first lap.

Media Boy, first of all, thanks for all your hard work on giving us all the info.

On your comment regarding BT Sports, you say that these channels will start on VM in July - has this been confirmed yet.
