Morning everyone. Just wondering if anyone was able to let us know how the update trials were going, anyone had any issues (big or small) with the update yet?

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

Just a quick question guys, I've already got a Tivo and other V+ boxes, one of which is playing up a bit by rebooting itself at odd times, if I phone up about it will Virgin replace it with a Tivo? and if they do is it now a self install job?

BenMcr 22-09-2014 22:54

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

You can replace a V+ HD box for TiVo 500GB for £20 delivery and then £5 extra a month if you're on TV XL. That's excluding any other bundle changes.

If you wanted to do both at the same time it would have to be a manned install at £49.95, and then if you're on TV XL it would be £5 extra per month per V+ HD > TiVo swap.

Thanks Ben, one other thing, how do I return the V+ box?

BenMcr 22-09-2014 23:08

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

In the box the TiVo comes it, with a prepaid sticker on it and you take it to a Collect+ place.

Got to call Virgin tomorrow morning again. This is the second TiVo box that keeps freezing when changing channels. Doesn't seem to be a fault their end and nothing showing online so a call to an engineer is needed. Oh well. Might see if they can swap a faulty one for a 1TB box. Doubt it but you don't ask, etc.

My Tivo box just did a reboot at just before 4am.

ive not got the new update yet so does anyone know what this update is?

Just because TiVo has rebooted, doesn't mean it's received a code update.

Depending on the content, you might just want to skip past all the boring bits and get straight to the good bits.

It's only years of SD content or 4,000 hours of HD. Who records anything in SD these days? :)

The update definitely fixes the bug where recording two consecutive programmes on the same channel causes the first to glitch at the point the second starts?

It would appear that the back-to-back recordings on the same channel pixelation problem has indeed been fixed on the 'plum' software update.

I recorded two programs on the same channel, both with default 1/4 padding, while the two other tuners were in use, and did not see any pixelation 5 minutes into the second program.

spj20016 04-10-2014 20:51

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

I just had 2 recordings that overlapped on BBC1 and the pixelation problem still happened at the 5 minute point so I don't think it has been fixed.

MalteseFalcon 04-10-2014 23:17

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

If you haven't had the update then it will be the same. If the menus are a disgusting plum colour then you have had the update. If they are still the same glorious red colour then you haven't had it yet.

Those who have had it, did the update interfere with any overnight recordings?

If it was recording at the time of the update, the recording would be incomplete.

Perhaps the issue has other factors, either local to your box or local to your network

Also being reported as fixed here:

http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...8/td-p/2092888

I tested some other recordings last night and this morning and they were all fine so I don't know why the BBC1 recording last night happened unless it was just coincidence that it pixilated at 5 minutes.

Thanks for doing extra testing. Looks like it has been fixed.

PS Sorry about the wrong link which I have now removed.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

OK mines not a pixellation isssue. I'll try to describe it.

I record 2 episodes of Family guy on BBC3 and my recording preferences have a 5 minute overlap in case programmes run long.

As im watching it 'live' when once recording ends and the other begins, there is a pause in transmission and my Virgin TIVO Bar comes on the bottom of the screen.

Someone told me it was because two separate hard drives were being used to record each recording.

Is this right? and does the update fix this?

RobboEdin 06-10-2014 12:42

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

That slight issue is still there.

I believe it happens because the TiVo stops buffering the live tuner you are watching to start the recording.

I see it as an inconvenience, rather than a bug, and would think that it is not even being considered as a bug.

It's definitely not a padding issue as I see it despite my default being no padding.

Got an engineer coming out this week to look at my TiVo box, keeps freezing when changing channels. Second box that has had this issue. If engineer says box needs replacing, might see what deal Virgin can do for a 1TB replacement.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

I seem to be encountering an issue with series links. I have a series link that shows two consecutive episodes, but for some reason it is only recording one episode, despite it listing both episodes in planned recordings beforehand.

Anyone know why this is happening?

MalteseFalcon 07-10-2014 01:08

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

A couple of reasons spring to mind.

1. Is there going to be 3 higher priority programmes being recorded after that episode? If so, then the episode will be picked up when it is next shown on that channel (so had it if a soap).

2. Has the episode been recorded in the previous 28 days? If so, then it will not record it again. Had that issue with a few of the NCIS LA episodes last few days.

3. Does the episode have the same series/episode number as the first show? I had a show the other week that displayed S01 E04 for both episodes so only the first is recorded.

Just a few suggestions as to what it could be, from my experience anyway.

The answer is no to all three questions. I have noticed that Virgin's numbering of certain episodes is off from time to time, but that wasn't the case today.

It really is odd.

It says it was no longer in the guide. It was definitely there, as I watched it. I guess it was some sort of TiVo fault.

Tonight our Tivo box recorded Human Universe 4 times in one go. On one, the green bar only showed 5 minutes, but the whole programme could be played, but not fast forwarded.

The hard drive is 90%+ full.

Sunday Supplement also records repeats which we have to delete.

Any ideas what's happening, or how to correct?

Reserve judgement on it being slicker. My experience suggests that performance is more variable, being slicker than ever sometimes and slower than before sometimes.

Anyone know if any other announcements were ever made? Or was this a pipe dream from someone inside VM that never came to fruition?

Yes, I remember that, I had VHD until recently and it is a great piece of kit no problems at all. I had hopped that Tivo software would come to it. I phoned up recently to renew my package and was told we are trying to get everyone on Tivo , so doubt it will happen now.

theres a video where Tivo is presenting their software to Haxe HQ, where they mentioned that they're software is fully open sourced. They were demonstrating they're new software on a Amazon Fire TV.
Power 5.5 mm DC[3] (6.25 V 2.5 A power adapter[4])
System-on-chip used Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 APQ8064T[3]
CPU Qualcomm Krait 300, quad-core to 1.7 Ghz[3]
Memory 2 GB LPDDR2 RAM[3]
Storage 8 GB internal[3]
Display 1080p[3]
Graphics Qualcomm Adreno 320[3]
Sound Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound[3]
Connectivity HDMI, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n), 10/100 Ethernet, Optical audio, Fire game controller[
They were also saying that it will go on customized STB's with lower specs. so that would mean that V+ boxes could be able to run their software without compromising or violating tivo rights.

V+ can't run TiVo software as it doesn't contain the required hardware. Nor can V-HD for that matter.

Do you have a link to the video please, I love watching this kind of thing. :)

I'm not entirely sure this is what Derekb was talking about but below is a YouTube link to the WWX2014 haxe conference where Todd Kulick (TiVo's chief development man) talks about the journey of TiVo from Flash to Haxe. It's nearly an hour long, Todd Kulick is no Steve Jobs and large chunks flew well over my head but I thoroughly recommend a watch (especially if you like this sort of thing).

I was adding new programmes/series links to my record list today, and checked them on the page for "My planned recordings".

I noticed a small blue button above the list that I had not noticed before. Pressing blue toggles through recordings that clash and all planned recordings/programmes that clash or not.

There was a huge list of clashes! Reading through them it was obvious that TIVO was trying to record not only the NEW shows I required, but REPEATS and OLD series too.

I went through my series link options, and I had set the option to NEW only as I require.

Glitch or bug? Or have I made an error somewhere? :dunce:

I also realised that accidentally trying to add a 4th programme at the same time/date does not throw up a CLASH warning onscreen, it just fails to put the "circled R" symbol against the programme, leaving to me think I have set a valid recording!

Hard to say without knowing what recordings you have set.

It may be recording an earlier showing instead - it always records the earliest available. Check My Planned Recordings.

The one thing I find annoying about the TIVO is that when the recording circle fails to come up, you've then got to search through the system to check that it has recorded at another time. Why can't it tell you either when the alternative recording has been placed or alternatively that it has been unable to find an alternative time?

Some will say that it normally does find another time, but this is not the case for BBC and ITV. I missed the last few episodes of 'The Americans' because the Olympics overran and there were no alternative showings.

Am losing patience rapidly with Virgin and their CS. Call them once a week about the box freezing when changing channels. They keep saying they will pass it onto their technical team and the situation improves for 2 or 3 days. Then it happens again. Will be calling tomorrow and demanding that an engineer comes out and looks at it. Might even see if I can get a reduction on a 1TB drive if this one is faulty.

My box had a warning pop-up last night.

N33 I think it was... "network availability".

Ditto. Never got around to calling them today, will do so tomorrow. This is getting beyond a joke now.

Latest official info from the VM forum team

Hi guys,

Whilst I am not privy to specific dates for specific regions, I have had this checked and all is on course to be completed before the end of the year. With only 55 days until Christmas I think it is perfectly safe to say that it won't be long until we are all in awe of the Plum goodness

Take care

Seems hopeful we'll all have it by the end of November. Do suggestions get better too?

Not that I've noticed. Suggestions are now generated on a server, not in the box, so changing the box software shouldn't affect the way they work (or don't).

Is everyone going to be updated on Tuesday or just the rollout starting. I don't think they have ever done a country wide rollout on one day before.
