It is, and afaik, was renewed ages ago, I've had Season 2 on my list for quite a few weeks.

You sure? (not that I'll be watching it).

Set in a dystopian reality in which an unstoppable force turns London’s streets into a deserted wilderness, it’s perhaps fitting for our times that War Of The Worlds will be the first UK television drama series to get cameras rolling in the pandemic era. Hollywood blockbusters Jurassic World and Mission Impossible are already shooting in Britain, but TV has been a little more cautious up until this point.

I looked at both of the series before they came out. The first one was being made by the BBC which was an instant no no fore me. The second one looked and sounded promising until I noticed it was a Belgian production. I am pretty sure I watched the trailer for it and it was all in french. I might have just been dreaming though:

I've watched all 8 episodes of Season 1, a while ago now.

Its not all in French, its about 80% English, and you can get subtitles for the french bits.

(Either separate, or hard coded into the video, depending on your source).

I think the BBC one was very accurate to the book. Unfortunately, this means the plot was a little slow, and not a lot happened. I have to admit, I last read the book about 30 years ago, so could have forgotten bit. Don't get me wrong, I remember enjoying the book, and love the various versions of the story I've seen over the years.

The downside is a story that reads well in a book may not translate well to the screen. Slower plots can work well in a book, but will be boring on screen.

I preferred the HBO version. It was essentially an aliens invade the earth story with the War of the Worlds name than a retelling of the story from the book, but it was well written, well acted and exciting.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

yup, I am hoping that conversations have been had behind the scenes to plan for a 5 or 6 season story arc so something meaningful happens each season and the story progresses. The last thing you want with a series like this is for them to finish the story and get to where they want to at the end of season 4 and then be told the series is renewed for a 5th season and have to come up with something ad hoc.

pip08456 25-07-2020 14:16

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

According to Joe Mallozzi that's pretty much covered when the show is first pitched.

Quote:

Start with a detailed rundown of the PILOT TEASE

Discuss the WORLD of your show

Introduce your main CHARACTERS

Offer a summary of your pilot, including that awesome end-of-episode beat that will hook your viewers and compel them to keep watching.

Present your game plan for season one including all major story and character arcs and that awesome end-of-season beat that will compel your viewers to tune in next season.

Offer a summary of your plans for season 2 and beyond.
Dark Matter was pitched with a 5 season story arc.

And it was really getting going when they cancelled it. I know it would be hard to get going again as they would be starting from scratch but if I won £100m+ on the euro millions I would love to give him the money to finish it off.

It isnt as cheesey as it sounds and the premise is quite good. The thing which lets it down is the production quality and acting. It is a british produced series made on the cheap and it shines through.

British production? I don't think so. Of the two production companies one is Spanish/Portugese the other is Canadian. Fresco Film Services and Reality Distortion Field. Simon Davis Barry (a Canadian) is also the Creator and writer (along with others in the writing room) Director (along with others) and Showrunner (Continuum, Van Helsing).

British production? Not on your life!

I know the suspense has been killing you so here we go. There are actually two lists; one with Star Trek and one without. I did the "with" one while I was brushing my teeth last night:

1. Babylon 5
2. Stargate SG1
3. Battlestar Galactica
4. Stargate Atlantis
5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
6. Game of Thrones
7. Star Trek Voyager
8. Star Trek TNG
9. Star Trek DS9
10. Star Trek Enterprise

or without Star Trek:

1. Babylon 5
2. Stargate SG1
3. Battlestar Galactica
4. Stargate Atlantis
5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
6. Game of Thrones
7. The Expanse
8. X-Files
9. 24
10. Lost

The first list was easy to do because I could pick my easy favourites, add Star Trek and ignore everything else. Doing a proper list was more difficult and as with the movie list, I wanted to add so much more. I would love to have put Heroes, Friends and Big Bang Theory on there as welll, not to mention Prison Break.

It would have to be a 4th Season, that said, they may need the episodes to extend Season 3.
I guess it depends on what else they are able to film in 2020, they dont have much ready to air atm.

They had already filmed half of Season 3, and it resumed filming back in June.

Season 3 starts airing on Oct 8th (i.e. in about 3 weeks time).

[ Edit: Found the tweet, the replies to it definitely imply its a 4th Season ].

It may be continuing in comic book form. A twelve-issue prequel comic book was put out by Boom! Studio shortly after the series premiered and that may be the medium pursued to continue the story.

From Lisa Henderson:-

Quote:

We can confirm that there will not be an additional season of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. We know fans are eager to learn how this chapter of The Dark Crystal saga concludes and we’ll look for ways to tell that story in the future. Our company has a legacy of creating rich and complex worlds that require technical innovation, artistic excellence, and masterful storytelling. Our history also includes productions that are enduring, often finding and growing their audience over time and proving again and again that fantasy and science fiction genres reflect eternal messages and truths that are always relevant. We are so grateful to Netflix for trusting us to realize this ambitious series; we are deeply proud of our work on Age of Resistance, and the acclaim it has received from fans, critics and our peers, most recently receiving an Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Program.

So just to clarify for people who dont want to follow links ;

Supergirl has been cancelled, Season 6 to be its last.

I cant actually say I'll miss it too much.
It was turning into another PC soapbox, SG even lost her trademark skirt.

Hopefully Batcrap will get canned this year as well, it was another soapbox, and not even that entertaining, and now it wont even be about the titular character anymore. WTF.

The Flash is becoming tiresome as well, dragging out storylines.
I do like Black Lightning, but I think Legends of Tomorrow is my favourite now.
Unlike the others it actually entertains each week, and doesnt take itself too seriously.

exactly, the article refers to a decline in ratings as a reason for it but they are all so stupid that they haven't asked themselves what caused the decline in ratings. The whole point of series like this is that they are supposed to be fanstasiful (probably not a real word :)) and escapism they moved away from a proper superhero series to pursuing liberal messages and wrapping it up in a cape. I can see Discovery following the same path.

Teenage Bounty Hunters has been cancelled, a shame as I rather enjoyed it.

The CW is not calling it a fourth season but rather an additional 13 episodes of season three.

Interesting, a 26 episode Season 3.

Season 3 actually launches tomorrow, and given the usual breaks, its 13 current episodes would end around mid February.

Will they have the additional episodes follow straight on I wonder.
They cant have known they would get more, so must have wrapped up the initial season 3 storyline in the first 13.

All a bit odd and confusing, it would seem easier to just call it season 4.
There are probably some legal/contract reasons why they have to keep it as season 3.

Shame, I love Hillary Swank. I was looking forward to watching it but SFX ripper it apart and I knew it would kill my realism factor from the comments they made.

You need to get that "realism factor" looked at ;)

gutted, although I didn't think it looked particularly great from the trailer I did enjoy and would have liked to have seen more.

There have been 3 episodes so far, they plan to show the rest.

Its been average at best, and hard to see how they could realistically strech it out more.
An all powerful AI, its either going to kill everyone, or have to be killed off pretty quickly (just ask John Connor).

that's the problem with series like that. There is one novel story to tell that can only realistically go on for so long within the story/universe and then what do you do after that? I am not surprised though, the series has suffered delay after delay and that was before coronavirus.
