Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
Just had my contract through and the price on it is £17 quid dearer than the sales team told me it would be. So a call to CS ensued, and their system shows the correct price as quoted, so why was the contract different ??? Waiting for a new contract.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
my contract states that l am paying 8.00 more but yet with the tivo it should be only 3.00 more in my mind.
Why the rise of 8.00. |

6 hours and 3 engineers later I have my Tivo up and running. All I can say is these guys were first class and were determined not to leave until it was up and running.
Far to early to comment on it yet, but you have to be practically in front of the box to get the remote control to work |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
Well hats of to the Virgin tech, he was here almost two and half hours, still have a poor signal nut he managed to boost it enough to get Tivo to work. He is going to get a new cable laid as he said that the signal is being split between two boxes and a BB connection and was being split out side to the flat below. He even knocked on their door found out they no longer had Virgin and removed that splitter.
First impression its different, but looks so damn nice. |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
As a new Tivo user (since Thursday) I have just tried Devil's 'Monroe' test and sad to report that I don't get the option to play it direct either.
Incidently the guide has only filled backwards as far as the early hours Thursday, I guess that it only fills from around install date? ---------- Post added at 16:36 ---------- Previous post was at 16:32 ---------- ...also, the Tivo didn't find the programme Monroe in a search though it did find lots of people called Monroe so I has to navigate to it. There doesn't seem to be an option to filter just on programme titles which is a shame. |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
Had Tivo installed this afternoon (Nottingham), quick install on around 40 minutes only. Installer who came wasn’t the person planned (his vehicle had broken down so he was fill in at last moment but had installed Tivo before). The installer was friendly but didn’t have full knowledge of all Tivo features and admitted I probably knew more than him on features. Fine, nice for him to be honest. Required a manual hit to activate but smooth replacement of SA V+ at least.
Few points: 1. Tivo remote control not controlling volume, installer was told to state press TV and Clear button together until 2 green flashes are seen on the remote, then press 0999 and then keep pressing the channel up button. This tells the Tivo to request TV settings apparently and can take up to 2 hours so patiently waiting to see when I can control volume. Take it there is no other way, if yes please post details, I have a Sony KDL40HX803 TV 2. Have to say picture definitely looks not as sharp as the SA V+ when viewing SD channels, can see that “softer” effect other people have mentioned. Tivo has auto selected 1080i for HDMI signal which was the setting I had on the V+ as well. Not the end of the world but the only slight negative so far among many positives, but something is definitely different between the 2 boxes form my picture experience, didn’t expect an older box to be better at SD up scaling but the SA V+ clearly is. 3. Had to use an equaliser on the Tivo box input as my signal was slightly high, no problems just thought I would mention. 4. Lost 3 recordings of Sky One Fringe on the old box because I made a mess of recording them onto to DVD earlier (selected wrong input channel to DVD recorder!). Nothing Tivo can do about that of course but shows need for VM to do a deal with Sky on catch up/OD content as it is a gap with popular programmes in my house e.g. Fringe, House, etc, and it will be some time before Sky repeat episodes of the current series. I am not in my wife’s good books right now but a price worth paying to get a Tivo! Now I just need to get the kids off the Wii (attached to the same TV) to find out more! Having no problems with the angle for the remote control by the way, seems fine wherever I am in our room. |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
I'm in North Yorkshire and can watch "Monroe" directly from the EPG.
One interesting thing I did just notice though. Whilst Thursday's "Loose Women" is available directly from the EPG, Friday's edition of the show says "Go to..." and not "Play from...". So I wonder if it's something like it take 48 hours for it to be available directly through the EPG? |

You will only be able to rewind the EPG to the point where your EPG data begins. If you have only just, today, had Tivo installed then why is anyone surprised that they can't go back to yesterday in the EPG.
Carl Waring just posted the above message. It makes sense and could be the answer. Can anybody who has had the TiVo for a while comment please.:) |

I've checked a variety of shows over the last two days on ITV/4/5 and they all say "Go to" as well.
I have just managed to get iPlayer HD working which hadn't worked properly before, still some pixellation, but miles better than SD. |

Tivo coming tuesday.
I'm getting a bit worried about some of your comments about the backwards epg and search for OD content. I thought this had been beta tested with staff? And now I read the remote record doesnt work? Can someone confirm that as I'm apparently entering into a new 12 month contract (never actually mentioned at the point of ordering) I can back out before a set period? The backward EPG was a feature very heavily marketed in communication so I would expect it to work at the point of install. Or is that unreasonable? |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
I've seen loads of posts on here and on the TiVo Help & Support forum referring to the problems people are experiencing with their TiVo, in particular their TiVo's rebooting regularly.
I've got my install scheduled in for 30th April, but quite worried by the number of bugs that seem to be arising since the main launch. If it wasn't for the free install offer, I'd be tempted to cancel and wait a few months for things to (hopefully) settle down. The last thing I want is to have loads of programmes not recording or ruined through random reboots. Maybe VM's free install offer wasn't just pure generosity, after all. Perhaps they knew such issues were likely to arise and without the offer the sign up rates for TiVo would significantly drop off once these problems became public. |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
My wife has noticed the page up/down buttons are not on the screen any longer with Tivo, she liked using the green and red buttons used for page up/down when you have long menus of programmes or wanted to “jump” down the EPG.
Is this still available another way or do you just have to scroll down? Is there an official VM feedback forum where Tivo users can provide comments back on usability or other issues? I’m sure VM would welcome general customer feedback. Still suspicious of SD PQ by the way, I had a clear difference between SA V+ and Tivo on same setup, Tivo does not upscale SD as good as previous product I have to say, not sure if anything can be enhanced in a future code drop but something I would like to see VM investigate. I have a good quality Tv (Sony KDL40HX803) and feel I’ve taken a slight step backwards on picture quality. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Just looking at the Formula 1 GP on 101 and 108 channels. Wow, have to say the SD PQ is definitely worse than my SA V+ (both were using 1080i via HDMI), will try TV settings to see if it can help but distinct lack of clarity around the edge of people like a "soft" setting is too high. On SD when I saw a face close up the detail was almost HD like, but not the case with Tivo I can always watch the HD channel but thinking about those channels where HD is not available. HD also has a slight softening affecting as well but minor, the SA V+ picture just seemed so sharp especially at the edges of people/objects. My installer yesterday didn't do anything special tothe nox by the way, just checked frequencies to get them right and left it alone to download and do what it does automatically, so I am seeing it "out of the box". |

DF, where are when we need you.? |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
Still same for me this morning - still takes me to catchup menu. Last night I wiped all the programme info and redownloaded it all. Took a few goes but still no good.
What I did notice was that every time I connected too the Virgin servers it downloaded a little more of the EPG. I started with only a few days but after about 10 connections to it I ended up with a full EPG until Friday 29th April. I thought this might then solve the catchup problem but it didn't. Let me know if yours get fixed. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
Getting tivo installed on Tuesday and when I got home from work last night the new contract was there. When I studied it I saw that it was for £110.05.
I rang billing to point out that I thought this was wrong, ( I`m on vip 50 btw) and that I thought it should have been £100.55. After a while it became clear that the sales had added on and extra box and they thought that I would have 3 boxes after Tuesday. I told them that it was not the case and all that was happening was a box swap and I would still only have 2 boxes. That accounted for £6.50 of the extra. The next thing was that they were adamant that there was a £3 charge for tivo. I told them that my email said that there wouldnt be any charge. She asked me to forward the email to her manager, which I did. They then took the £3 charge off. So its worth double checking these new contracts as mistakes can be made. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
Quote:
I wonder how many people don't bother checking the contract? It seems that overcharging is widespread. I ordered by phone and the initial quote was wrong. I haven't received a copy of my new contract yet but I will check it when it arrives. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
I've had my TiVo since Thursday. There are a few niggles (slowness, incomplete EPG, lack of catch-up) but, generally speaking, I'm pleased with it. That is, until this morning.
I turned on to catch the morning news and after only a few clicks on the remote the TiVo seized up and would not respond to any button pushes. I was left with the programme guide and the BBC News channel in the top right corner box. I could not find anything about this in the troubleshooting guide and I did not want to turn off the box as I was recording the F1 grand prix to view later. I left it as it was and went out to buy a paper. When I got back the box was working normally again. I've no idea how long the freeze lasted for but at least 20 minutes. Has anyone else experienced similar freezes or know if there is a known problem? |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
As far as I'm concerned, the catchup / epg / search issue is not just a 'niggle' its a big problem. At the moment, the functionality of my Tivo is worse than the V+. This issue needs to be sorted soon otherwise I will send it back.

I'm personally quite happy to just have the bigger hard drive for now and all the other bits and pieces get sorted when and where. But I do understand other peoples frustrations. I'm sure TIVO will have updates constantly until we are all happy bunnies. :D
If not it's goin in the bin  |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
So now we are getting the contradictory tensions between the mass outcries of "why can't I have the box now, if not sooner" and "there are bugs/features on the box, why have they released it too soon".
