I would have thought that figures like those would have encouraged ITV to do a deal with VM as quickly as possible to increase viewing figures as quickly as possible, as selling advertising with such low numbers cannot be easy. Though I guess they sell advertising as a package.
Perhaps someone in advertising could educate me?

Hi Windy,

So until TiVo enabled boxes become standard PVR on VM and not a premium product, we will just have to hide SD channels on our fav setting :(

Is there any likelihood of TCM broadcasting in HD, I think its the only movie channel left to do so, and one of the original movie channels to start out.

There are several non HD movie channels incuding Movies 24, True Movies and Cinemoi.

your right of coarse, I didn't include them as movie channels, forgot, as I dont watch them cos they are so poor in quality, and we forgot Horror also. Tcm been around for ages and I know they show a lot of old stuff but they do tend to mix it with new also.

Just seen a advert on ITV about ITV+1 and that states that it starts on 11-1-11. So the info that has been on DS has been correct for once.

There are rumours that we will be getting CBS Drama, which would be part of a welcome replacement for the channels that we are losing with the Sky takeover of Bravo and Channel One. Do you think we'll get the HD version? http://wotsat.techradar.com/news/cbs...s-way-10-12-10

Comedy Central launched a HD simulcast even though the SD channel still broadcasts 4:3 so you never know but widescreen would be good for a start.

There is a TCM HD channel in the US but it broadcasts mostly upscaled fare.

I know folk at Turner in the UK and they once told me that a lot of their market is TVs in european hotels, where the screens are still old 4:3 ratio 14in portables. I don't know if that's still the case but that's why CNN, Cartoon Network and TCM were still in the old ratio (and pretty low bit rate, too). Not sure if that's still the thinking. Turner is actually extremely profitable (Ben 10 being the jewel in the crown) so I'm surprised they don't address both the widescreen and HD issues now.

They can't have it as a block over here cos of Ofcom reasons. They can, however, have it as a seperate channel that only broadcasts in the evening.

Remember, Toonami was only a block in the US, but over here it was a whole channel

They care about it, they just don't believe in it. If they didn't care about it then they wouldn't have a UK site and Robot Chicken/Venture Bros. wouldn't have been on FX and Tim and Eric wouldn't have been on 4music this year.

ITV2 HD etc have gone in the HD pack on Sky, so will be getting extra revenue from Sky for that.

I think your subs will have to go up to get them on VM. Are they worth that?

ITV2-4 HD are pretty pointless, for me anyway. I only watch a couple of programmes on ITV2 and maybe football games every now and then when they're on ITV4. In fact the only thing I'd want ITV2 HD for is the films near Christmas.

I disagree as the majority of ITV's best content is on ITV1 anyway, of which we have the HD simulcast of anyway. I'm pretty sure the majority of people would rather not have the HD simulcasts of ITV2-4 than pay extra on their bill. Otherwise they might as well have Sky where you have to pay extra for all HD channels except the free to air ones regardless

I'd rather have the choice of watching ITV 2 in HD than not have it at all. The picture quality of these channels can leave a lot to be desired so any improvement is welcome.

It is, but ITV2 HD is a different story. It's been posted in this forum that it has a miniscule audience share on Sky HD.

I'm sure the channels will come, but probably not at the price ITV values them at! :D

No news on where ''The Cape'' will be broadcast on.

All the US Drama series will be back on Channel 4 in January.

Also season 2 of ''The Good Wife'' is to start on January 6th. As well as Bothers and Sisters back in January on More 4.

@undertakereddie

This is off Wikipedia so I don't know how accurate it is as I was looking for myself, but The Event is not due back in the US until March 7th, so we can expect it a couple of weeks later at the earliest I would guess.

And for anyone interested in Nikita and Chuck on Living, again its from Wikipedia so don't know how accurate but Chuck is back in the US on January 17th and Nikita January 27th.

And just to add Bones season 6 actually starts on Living on January 5th at 9pm with the first 4 or 5 episodes (I cant remember exactly) that where shown on Sky One back in October, and then the new episodes begin in February.

And this part is pure speculation on my part but as Bones was one of Sky One's flagship shows I would guess there is a good chance that Living will be rebranded before Bones switches so I wouldn't be surprised if the rebrand happens on the 1st January or sometime in the week commencing Jan 3rd.

Just to add extra for SPARTACUS it will not be the second series of BLOOD AND SAND but GODS OF THE ARENA ( a six part prequel ) as the main star of BLOOD AND SAND ( ANDY WHITFIELD ) is not going to be playing SPARTACUS in season 2. So the second series has been delayed, so it said that they will air the new series in SEPT 2011

Unfortunately Andy Whitfield has a cancer and despite a long cure is not recovering well. Here is what Wikipedia says about it:
"In March 2010, Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, beginning treatment immediately in New Zealand. This delayed production of season two of Spartacus: Blood and Sand.
In June it was announced that Whitfield completely finished his treatment, had a clean bill of health and was expected to be back on the set of Spartacus: Blood and Sand by October. Three months later, in September, it was announced that Whitfield's cancer had returned and he would not be returning for the second season of Spartacus.
Whitfield will make a brief appearance in the prequel mini-series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, scheduled to premiere in January 2011."
All the best to him!

Well said and this was taken form the community forum on STARZ on the SPARTACUS forum:

Andy Whitfield, star of Starz's "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," has been advised by his doctors to immediately resume aggressive treatment for a recurrence of cancer, as a result of which he will not be returning for the series' second season, which was tentatively set to air in September 2011.

"It’s with a deep sense of disappointment that I must step aside from such an exceptional project as ‘Spartacus’ and all the wonderful people involved. It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey. Thank you sincerely for the support so far," said Whitfield.

"Our hearts and prayers are with Andy and his family during this difficult time," said Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht. "Andy is not only an incredible actor whose portrayal of Spartacus made an indelible impression on Starz audiences, he is also an amazing human being whose courage, strength, and grace in the face of adversity have inspired all of us."

No decisions have yet been made about the future of the series. "Right now, we just want to extend our concern and support to Andy and his family," said Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director, Starz Media. "We will address our programming plans at some later date."

Starz still plans to air the prequel to "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" in January 2011. Entitled "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," it focuses on the House of Batiatus before Spartacus arrives in Capua and stars returning cast members John Hannah, Lucy Lawless, Peter Mensah and Manu Bennett, along with newcomer Dustin Clare.

I have set my V+ box to tape the thing that Sky Sports 3 is broadcasting after WWE Smackdown tonight as with it being LIVE it may run over (Like WWE Raw LIVE is on for 2hr 15ms when it only last on Thursdays for 2 hours).

I've had to set it to record the 2 shows after it as the guide shows Smackdown as being on from 2-3am.

That's really sad news. Makes we wish he had found another TV series to do instead.

Hope he gets well soon and nice to see the second series has been delayed so maybe he can return if he gets back to full health

I would take that with a pinch of salt. There has nothing been announced to staff about any launch of ESPN America HD

Will of course be good if it does happen

Media Boy update.

ITV1 +1 is set to launch on Virgin Media on the 11th of January but I have pick up tests for STV +1 and UTV +1 using my old Sky Box.

I have no information at time of posting that Virgin Media has got the rights to both STV and UTV's +1 hour channels.

Here is an up-to-date list of things set to happen over the Christmas Holidays:

January 1st - Bravo, Bravo +1 Bravo 2 and Challenge Jackpot will be closedown by BSkyB.
January 5th - FX HD will start broadcasting from 8am every day on Channel 158.

Would love this to happen I can say that defo Virgin have been in talks for it as I received a reply off Cindy Rose months ago which stated Virgin were in Talks with ESPN to carry this channel. TiVo is on the way but Virgin know they need more content especially Hd to tempt Sky customers over.

Video game broadcaster Ginx TV is to launch in the UK in the first quarter of 2011. This comes following the appointment of former MTV digital exec Will McGillivray as channel manager. The network is currently run by Michiel Bakker, one of the founders of MTV Europe and chairman of Nickelodeon.

Ah, so that's why they needed to get Vince Cable out of the way!

They couldn't buy him off, I guess, so he had to be "relieved of responsibility" some other way.
