Kuszczak - Neville - Ferdinand - Brown - Fabio - Martin - Gibson - Fletcher - Tosic - Welbek - Macheda.
If that lot play to their potential Hull will get battered. Especially look out for Lee Martin and Tosic. Martin has been awsome for the reserves this season, put on some bulk and pace. Tosic is going to be a star next season, suprised he hasn't made some 1st team appearances. I think we may suprise a few people. |

It's just footy, there used to be a lad at work who was a Pool fan, top bloke, but we used to go out of our way to slate each other if Pool or UTD lost on the weekend. It's part of it. Shame he left, 18 titles would have been some serious ammo. And I took some unreal stick through the 80's by the Liverpool Prawn Eater brigade (Yes, Prawn butties aren't a new invention) so it's what goes around comes around.
It's not personal to Liverpool people (well not with me) you can't beat a scouse accent on a lass (again, maybe just me ) |

European football doesn't get much mention here, which is a pity.
I've been paying a lot of interest in continental football this season, France and Germany especially and i'm really glad i have. I can honestly say, apart from the Top 4 in England, the general quality, competitiveness and entertainment of the teams in these 2 leagues is superior.
The tide has clearly turned in many of the big European leagues and "small" clubs can not only compete, but overtake the far richer, historically dominate and successful clubs. Could such occurrences happen in England, Scotland et al any time soon? Unfortunately, i seriously doubt it and i say that as a "Big 4" Arsenal fan. |

I agree, Michael Owen is class, and you don`t normally lose that. How old is he now? not even 30 yet, if he manages to do a stint without injury( that`s the risk any potential buyers faces) he could even force his way back into England reckoning.
Could be worth Man City gambling ~5 million, if it pays off it would be a masterstroke, nah who am i kidding it`s City he`d rupture another cruciate in his first game right after scoring. Feel sorry for Newcastle supporters, imo Newcastle United needs to be run by geordies to get the best out of the club. p.s. Good luck to Man U on the 26ᵀᴴ from a Man City fan :bigcry: |

Keegan coming back was a joke, the guy did nothing much in his first spell apart from spending money, and did nothing at Fulham or England another manager could have, and then repeated his cheque book at Man City... been out of the game for ages, but brought back to put smiles on the faces of fans, until he was exposed as crap again... that said, the board didn't help bringing in Wise (who has done what?) to oversee transfers and buying players the manager doesn't want. No-one would work in that situation so Kinnear was probably the only choice to take it on - on paper a good appointment, did well with Wimbledon although that was long in the past, got Luton promotion and survived relegation in his first season with Forest, experienced head who keeps it simple and stabilises things - not a long term thing but fine as a caretaker. Personally I think had Kinnear not been taken ill then they would have stayed up, they were 13th after the WBA game. Hughton had no experience and Calderwood was new to the Championship - and was sacked for being in the relegation zone with us, having taken two attempts to get promotion, and having never managed in the Premiership - clearly only appointed because of his connections with Hughton and Wise. Shearer was a gamble - the hope that a total novice would lift the place enough to get momentum... In the end, Calderwood contributed to one relegation and but for Billy Davies, would have been two. Be quite funny to see the pundits get it though, after they always go on about tactics and how the managers get it wrong. ---------- Post added at 16:25 ---------- Previous post was at 16:10 ---------- Just some stats... http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page...081005,00.html after Kinnear's first game NUFC were 18th with 5p from 7 games http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page...090207,00.html after the WBA game, the day Kinnear was hospitalised - 13th with 27p from 25 http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page...090321,00.html after Hughton/Calderwood's last game - 18th with 29p from 30 Ending position 18th, 34 from 38 Keegan - average ppg 0.71, 27 points per season Kinnear - average ppg 1.22, 46 points per season Hughton/Calderwood - average ppg 0.40, 15 points per season Shearer - average ppg 0.63, 24 points per season Only Kinnear would have kept them up on PPG basis. Derby got 11 points last season, H/C were almost as bad. |

Re: Football : Season 08/09
Gotta agree with every point you made there, Kinnear would most likely have kept them up even if it was only just.
The whole Mr Curly coming back was just a complete waste of time(keep the fans happy..!) and lost points on the board, something Newcastle desperatly needed. On a differant subject, who does everyone think is manager of the year? IMO there are 3 candidates... 1- Alex ferguson. If Man U go on to win the european cup it`s hard to argue against. 2-David Moyes. Done an absolutely fantastic job at Everton with limited resources, plus bringing players in from the academy and buying others at good value. Allways seems to get the best out of his players and elevates the club to a position which amazes. 3-Roy Hodgson. Again like David Moyes, has that ability to forge a team which isn`t that great on paper and move them to a level which seems beyond the squad. Also the style of football Fulham have played this year has been a joy to watch, that giant of a defender hangaland(probably spelt wrong) and the striker nevland look top notch. Glad Dickson Etuhu is playing well also (here`s hoping his brother gets a chance) |

Manchester City spent 30 odd million on one player and he`s not that good.
15 million seems to be about what you need to spend nowadays to get a better than average player who is known about. Still made a slight profit last year http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...on/7788657.stm This is from a while back, i`d like to know what ammounts each club spent last year premiership spending 2002-03 - 2006-07 season Chelsea £268.30m Liverpool £58.07m Tottenham £37.30m Newcastle £35.65 Man United £34.95 Aston Villa £31.45m Middlesboro £19.85m Charlton £13.65m Bolton £11.55m Everton £9.95m Arsenal £9.90m Maybe not limited resources but again IMO he does seem to do well with what he`s got. Certainly better than some managers who have spent similar/more cash..... |

Re: Football : Season 08/09
Spurs - £356Million! Would never have expected that much. And Man Utd £190Million in sales! Considering we are the 2nd biggest spenders - to come out with a per-season spend that is comparable to Man City and then taking Trophies Won into consideration, that's some decent transfer activity. I suppose the fact we won so much with a team that cost very little can bias that slightly. However, remove Peter Kenyon from our outgoing and that £391 would (could) have been somewhat smaller.
Also £260Mill from Arsenal pretty much knocks the old "Wenger doesn't spend" out of the park, but again, £180Mill in sales. £4.6Mill a season. For all the things about him I don't like, very good manager Wenger. Edit: What I mean is more the myth that Wenger is gutless when it comes to spending. ---------- Post added at 19:31 ---------- Previous post was at 19:17 ---------- Quote:

Both teams are excellent going forward but we have a solid back 5 and barca dont. Which could make all the difference with any luck. Hmmm, the only problem with being a smug Man United fan is if we have a successful season but lose something big (like tomorrow's game) then each fan of every other team legally earns the right to mercilessly gloat for a minimum of 2 months. So I'm really hoping for a 2-1 win and a trophy retention.
