Its not more like the old one, a brand new product which carries the advantages of the old, like any normal company does! :rolleyes:

Who has said more like?

You're not reading the posts correctly.

People are questioning why a small number features that V+ had or did better than Tivo, weren't added to the Tivo, when Tivo was being modified from the US version anyway?

Everyone has acknowledged that Tivo has far more functionality than V+ and is a far better better product in comparison to V+.

I'm confused by your apparant lack of objectivity in this issue.

Agree fully and a very constructive post , TIVO is more advanced than the V+ fact , however it's wrong to say an older box cant have features that were better or more user friendly.

There's no doubt that TiVo has a whole load of extra features over V+ HD. But there's also no doubt that there's a few features which were in V+ HD which a) people used and b) aren't in TiVo.

True progress is adding to the existing feature set. Not taking them away. The reminders thread (and the about-turn VM/TiVo have done on that) is indication of existing functionality which customers used on V+ HD, and still want to use on TiVo.

Ditto numerous picture quality threads on this and other forums. It should be:

TiVo SD Picture Quality >= V HD+

and not:

TiVo SD Picture Quality <= V HD+

How is that progress regarding picture quality for SD, eh!?

l find myself agreeing with many forum members on this.

Before the V+ was around reminders were the only way to ensure you didn't miss a programme. Now we have multiple tuners and a large hard drive they really aren't needed. Also if its a show or event that you really want to see you shouldn't be forgetting about it just before it starts ;)

Wrong. What if you want to watch something, and the hdd is full? Yes, 1TB is a lot of storage, but record a few films and a couple of series in HD and that 1TB will soon vanish.

Especially when you consider Tivo doesn't support archiving to another medium in the background, which means you need to find several hours when the box isn't being used to archive that stuff.

If you desperately need a reminder that the news is on at 6 then there is something wrong :P its on that time everyday lol. However you could always set an alarm or calender reminder on your mobile phone?
So, you are suggesting using an alternate device (and considerably more button presses) to replace functionality people apparently found useful and that VM could implement in a few lines of code? And that's not a step backwards in usability?

Not really. You don't remove features to improve something (unless they really don't work, but clearly reminders did), you attempt to add to those features.

100% spot on Stuart a certain UK pay TV uses a green button remind me service frequently as do many other PVR services around the world , so it's hardly a dying function.

Someone over at TCF even suggested using reminders on my mobile phone as an alternative to no-reminders on TiVo.

Seriously.

Progress, eh!

I'm sure some people really want reminders and maybe they will be added in future, but surely the point of a PVR is that you just record it and watch it when you want?
Justly opinion, I'm sure others will disagree but I think the TiVo will do me fine :)

I fully agree with you on that one, but some people like reminder functionality.

But there's a principle going on here. There are some things V+ did better than Tivo and we're being told by Stephen we should ignore them and not complain about the lack of them; how dare we challenge, 'The mighty Tivo'?

But as Tivo was modified from the US version, there was the opportunity to add some V+ functionality. For some the missing/better functionality is reminders. for me it's padding.
