The government has to frame it as something they are giving to the public.

First the "carrot mode": cheaper or free electricity at off-peak times to push the last of the "Luddites" into having a smart meter.

Then we will see "stick" mode: peak power periods become more expensive, training us to only use power at off-peak times. And those periods will be set by the power companies.

Once again, the belief is that we all work 9 to 5 jobs, Monday to Friday, as they believed when Work From Home became a thing.

With a renewable grid the cheap times are set by the weather not the companies.

So when the sun goes in and the wind drops to a whisper, we will suddenly have no cheap or free power.

Yes that's exactly how it works. I had free power over Easter because it was windy.

Just look here, the less blue you see the more likely it is to be cheap.

EDF, if you reduce your peak hous use Monday to Friday (4pm to 7pm) then you get max 16 hours free on Sunday. We're normally not here until after 7 so use very little late afternoon.

2 minutes in to a 7 minute video and he’s still outlining the circumstances. What’s the tl:dr here - what does he think is going on? Youtube videos are such an inefficient way of commincating anything that can be summarised in a paragraph of text and a graph.

Outfox have automatically taken my first Gas smart meter reading on 29 April 1.5 months after my switch, I had given up hope and was about to email them to get it sorted.

Just about to start my first Grid Event with Axle Energy. Will take power from the batteries for an hour to balance the local grid and we'll get £1.15/kWh.

Anyone with a solar and battery system want to get involved they're offering a £20 sign up bonus or I can send you a link where we both get £25. I withdrew my £20 and it was in the bank in seconds,
