TiVo will come down in price like all technology does. Plus the monthly fee may change too.. it may be absorbed in to XL eventually, with lower tiers paying £5 (like V+HD) who knows...

Just had Virgin's 'lottery' e-mail so after a discussion with the wife we agreed that in the unlikely event of getting a box she can keep the old TV drive downstairs and the TiVo can go upstairs in the bedroom. I want one as it's better than one tuner and no hard drive in a standard V box :)

Would just say to everyone don't give up yet they are obviously still working their way through all the accounts.

this is where the problem lies ... VM are a business with shareholders and therefore are more likely to increase charges than absorb then in the future ... like it or not VM do want to make profits and tivo is a potential cash cow for them

As a VIP50 customer, if I upgrade to TiVo I was going to keep my V+HD box and return the standard V HD Box. Can anyone tell what that'll do to my package price? It means I would have both Tivo and a fully functional V+HD box. Would the price go down as I'm removing the £6.50 per month V HD Box from my package and replacing it with a £3.00 per month TiVo box instead?

All this talk of potentially loosing the recording function on TiVo has me concerned. All the more reason to cling onto the V+HD box with all my might:D

As the TiVo has not been launched then no one can tell you what difference it may make to your package.

If I had 2 boxes I would keep the V+ out of the 2.

VM already give you inclusive HD, TV Choice, Music On Demand and ESPN on XL.

Thanks for the feedback Masque. I thought I had seen non-staff with TiVo or at least TiVo booked for installation in this thread. I just thought someone else may have already experienced this scenario / potential price change and would like to share their findings.

I'm a patient man so I'll just wait and see.

If you check both the stock markets that VMED is listed on you will see that the dividends are minus so i think that the shareholders are not getting a good pay-out ( at the moment )

Not aware of anything and only someone that has had one installed could tell you but maybe not until at least the first bill.

As I said keep your V+ when you sign up little point in keeping a standard box.

dont get me wrong im not knocking VM ... i like VM ... but they are in the business to make money just like every other business ... they dont give things for free unless they are getting something out of it themselves some where along the line

i applaud VM for sticking to their guns and refusing to pay sky extortionate amounts for their channels but at the end of the day VM are in the business of making money and shareholders do want a payout in dividends and of course staff hope for bonuses too :D

an opportunity to pay off some of the debts maybe to big a temptation to someone with some power ... may not be the current CEO but who knows what the future holds

When the TV Drive first came out Telewest were asking £10 a month for it on what is now XL and £15 on the other packages on top of any install fees. People seemed quite happy to pay it then.

So personally I think £3 for TiVo is a bargain
