Actually the price rises start today so no longer coming soon! I seem to recall staff on here saying if you want more content in XL you have to pay for it, I couldn't agree more.

So where is it then?

This exactly what l was saying, they are taking off channels and replacing them without even a thought for the customers. Typical VM

I heard a rumour this morning that vm were getting as many channels as possible to take on Sky's large customer base, and poach customers from Sky with special deals.

And of course, Arthur, Sky would never do that, would they?

Unless you count Virgin 1/Channel One, Bravo, Sky Real Lives.....;)

Perhaps he was referring to MTV and CSC closing services just on VM only to replace them with other services when the channels in question continue to be available on other platforms, same with Zing. A channel added, a channel lost when it continues to be available elsewhere. VM did add a radio station though!

As for the other channels they did indeed close, however Sky did launch Sky Atlantic instead which no doubt has a far bigger budget than all of those lacklustre channels combined.

To be fair though it is only available on Sky.

Stuart Murphy, Sky's director of programmes for Sky1 and Sky Atlantic, wrote a blog post last week highlighting the growing importance of "consolidated" viewing figures.

Murphy pointed to the series premiere of new drama Mad Dogs, which gained 817,000 viewers on Sky1, but that increased to around 2.2m over the seven-day period after transmission.

"At Sky, we've long since dispensed with the overnights as a measure of how well we're meeting the demand of our viewers, although for some in the free-to-air world or some commentators it remains a preoccupation," said Murphy.

"Our view is that we've given our customers the opportunity to define their own schedules, and we therefore need to have measurement models which properly reflect the changing behaviours of our customers. We don't want to be in a position where viewers are one step ahead of the rest of us."

Probably but anything of value has been slapped on Sky's other pay channels.

Having Atlantic is arguably better than just losing channels though.

Ultimately Sky's but because VM have put themslves in a corner over pricing they simply cannot afford to offer channels like Atlantic.

It isn't my cup of tea but it's clearly a very high quality channel and way out of VM's league.
