My main tip is just keep cranking the fsb up, leave all voltages alone for now and find with dual instances of prime how fast you can run with stock voltage, most E6600 and 6700 will hit around 3.3GHz like this. Do it manually in the bios as the aibooster can do funky things in windows sometimes. (such as under read cpu speed) Prime will usually give up easily when you push to hard with rounding errors. I would suggest using one instance of prime in option 1 and the other in option 2 (default is 3) as 3 uses alot of ram. Once you have found this limit, you have to turn off speed step, and other power management features to enable vcore increase. Increase this at an increment at a time then find the max clockspeed at each increment. At this time its worth monitoring the cpu temperature. As increasing vcore rapidly sends temperature soaring. I would suggest 60C as a maximum to occur under dual prime when it is maximum heat mode any warmer and you will get instabilty due to overheating. currently my c2d is running at 3.73GHz using 1.55v It runs two instances of folding all day long and peak temperature is around 50C, it is however water cooled. The chip will run at around 3.9GHz at about 1.65v You will find that overtime you will be able to run higher clocks at lower voltages as the chips matures / beds in! (It previously took 1.625v to hit 3.7GHz stable, now its at 3.73 with only 1.55) Another tip once you get over around 350 fsb you will want to increase the mch (northbridge voltage) Once you've found the cpu limit crank up the ram speed. Allways run the latest bios and asus seems to be releasing new ones every few weeks atm each with new features and occasional flaws (such as ram not working in anything but spd mode) good luck and enjoy just how quick the c2d's are |
Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
Cheers mate at stock voltage my machine at 3.2:( I did up the voltage and according to cpuz it still dropped so ill have to look at the power management so I can switch it off (hope thats it lol ) Thanks for the tips mate :)

Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
speedstep and c1e both need to be switched off, ignore cpu-z it doesnt understand c2d's properly still

Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
Any tips for overclocking my 805 zingle?
I got the Asrock Dual board with 1 gb ddr2 4200 533 ram. Not Overclocked a pc since a Celeron 266 :-) |
Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
errrm lol look at the memory timings and see if you can reduce its clock somehow either by a divider or dropping the ram multiplier or setting it at ddr2 400 initially. Then just up the fsb and test continue you may or may not need to up the voltage but it should hit 3 gig. The ram will be the first problem your system will hit
|
Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
Right so I got to reduce the ram speed initially does this mean I can bring it back up.
Whats are good signs that its all about to go pete tong and what speed should i be content with? |
Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
3 gig should do ya for a start then give it a good bit of time to make sure its stable
|
Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
Right how will i know if i need to up the voltage?
Whats a temp to stop at as a warning sign? Hitting 38 with nothing running up to a max of 50 running super pi and prime 95 |
Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
your still ok work in steps ensure the machine is stable . Prime will fail or the system will crash or become unstable thats how you know
|
Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
Right, cannot change memory settings, get the option of 533 or 667 mhz. Upped the cpu multiplier to 145*20 (2.9ghz with no increase in idel cpu temp)
---------- Post added at 21:38 ---------- Previous post was at 21:26 ---------- At 145*20 running at 1.23v and getting a fatel error in Prime. (Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4) Hmm not sure |
Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
it might be the ram is there a latency setting or any ram settings to drop its fsb?
|
Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
I got:
DRAM CAS# LATENCY : 3,4,5 DRAM COMMAND RATE : 2T, 1T DRAM VOLTAGE: HIGH, NORMAL, LOW FLEXIBILITY OPTION : ENABLED , DISABLED DRAM BANK INTERLEAVE [edit] Just going to update board bios as it might have better ram settings ---------- Post added at 22:05 ---------- Previous post was at 21:49 ---------- Nope no better ram settings dropped back to 142x20 (2840) |
Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
raise the cas to 6 and 2t settings then try at 3 gig with perhaps a point or 3 voltage (at your own risk lol)
|

Also cas goes up to 5 only and Command rate gives only 2t and 1t setting no other |
Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster
ddr533 is normally a lower cas rating than ddr 667 and up so slackening the timings to 5 may help . 2 t is also more relaxed than 1t
