Re: NTL Internet access problems - 07 Mar 2006

I've had the same problems in Newport, South Wales, for a week. Pages very slow to load and occasional email difficulties.

Windows drops its connection and I have to use the repair button on my ethernet card properties box. Linux (on the same PC, dual bootable) keeps the connection up but is just as slow. I don't know whether it "repairs" the connection automatically though.

It's not the date of the story that I was flagging, but what had happened through the ntl servers.
If a similar thing had happened again last week, what's to say that all requests for websites from ntl servers were being 'sidelined' to avoid a similar situation?

Well i have had no trouble visiting websites , seems that the only time i had problems with that was after a bad install of Windows XP Service pack 2 and another time when i got hit by some malicious mallware , my problem is that my connection keeps going down.

still pee poor sustainable upload speeds here in the LUTON / HITCHIN area (SG5 ***) as you can see from the picture i'm seeding something in Azureus called Kororaa since i'm A64 i'm downloading this version. 30kB/s upload on 10mb :erm: (hah) isn't asking too much. HTTP access is random and pages time out with the 'troughs' marked by Az. rebooted modem and router doesnt help, problem comes back soon after.

do you think my modem/psu brick needs replacing? 4+ years now!!

Can we claim a partial refund from ntl for these breaks in service? Are they able to charge for a service that they do not provide?
One or two occasional outages is understandable, but the recent occurances are a step too far. Something has to be done about it.

According to NTL the 10mb Service is "Up to 10Mb" and they cannot assure costumers the full 10 Meg. I know as i have had non stop issues with NTL since january 4th.

I have wrote a letter to the CEO and he has put me in contact with an Executive about the problems to which he has told me they couldnt garuntee the 10 meg service. I recieve speeds of less than 1/2 meg most nights and all i get from NTL is that they are aware and are working on the problem but this has been their same story since January.

no suprises there. this "10mb" NTL have sold customers is a fallacy and nothing short of gross miss-selling. how can they get away with this? well its their cleverly worded T&C that YOU signed. It says that they cannot guarrentee a service and any service that you receive is "down to luck" for want of better words.
I find this "10mb" connection with a 60kB/s peak upload craps out if I cane the upload too much. anything more than 30kB/s and i'm likely to get HTTP timeouts and torrents restarting.

Thats going to happen with any cable connection, its a limit of the technology - try cfosspeed - worked wonders here, full upload and download at the same time.

YMMV
