Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
well i actually want to go on the 512k Unlimited so have increased my download queue as of now, although hopefully i will get a letter this morning or soon.
To me to pay £37 for 30gigs is too low a limit as its their top tier and yet it still has same usage allowance as a 2meg user, speed isn't everything i'm afraid and webpages don't load anyfaster after a certain point and i have actually seen my download connection time drop by a large margin since the increase's in speed to the point that yes i may download alot more but i'm not connected 24/7 and doing it only a few hours so how the hell this is effecting other users is beyond me. With the warning letter i eased of considerably to the point i wasn't getting what i wanted from the newsgroups because to be fair i wanted to show i wasn't a greedy git but my needs with 2 adults and 3 children was more than 30gigs amonth, so by even using the internet less the £37 is even less value to us. Now with a Unlimited 512k i can queue up what i require and kids can do their own thing and just leave it 24/7 for £17.99 and not ever have to worry about what i download ever again and save £20 a month, a bargin for me. NTL really need to get off this power trip about speeds, yeah everyone says cool 10meg,24meg - but with their constant rubbish allowences for the price you pay its not worthy. I for one am glad they have this new low unlimited usage and i suggest all people who are miffed about their 1meg,ect yet paying more for less usage allowance to upgrade to 2/3meg and download like anything and get warning letters if NTL won't offer you the same service over the phone |
Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
right got my letter this morning and your not going to believe this!
we'd like to thank you for reducing your internet usage (previous was 156gigs that i got the warning letter for and the month this letter refers to 122gigs and congratulated me on a lower usage, lol) We'll continue to monitor your usage and reserve the right to take action if you exceed your allowance (i already have!), what they playing at! WTF? also: You'll be amongst the first customers in the UK to be upgraded to the 10MB service by the end of December! |

I reckon it comes down to areas and how much you affect the local UBR, one guy used 56GB and it still affected other peoples useage, whereas you lowering yours by just 30GB to 122GB has been enough to lighten the load in your area, others who use 300GB+ per month, who don't affect their area, didn't even get contacted in the first place. I bet telewest are looking forward to the merger. :dunce: :erm: |
Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
thing is don't know if i'm happy or not, lol!, the other guy on the same UBR must of got the letter this time, i'll have to check

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
All this is making me wonder if in certain areas people could get away with unlimited downloads (within reason) on 10mbit/75gig connection. I guess if NTL deems it not to be affecting anyone, why not?

I am intrigued as to why when the upgrade schedule appears to be a best kept secret that this letter is informing people of their upgrade schedule.
Regarding upload on the 512k service. I've heard that it'll be the same as the original 512k service at 128k. |

An unlimited 1-3Mbps package would suit me fine - unlimited 1Mbps (with more than 100k - say 256k) for £17.99 would keep me smitten. If I could have, say 5Mbps down and 512kbps up with a 40GB allowance and a £25 price tag, I'd also be pretty smitten. The range of options open to NTL are many - they just have to have the nouce to get the economists in and see what sort of packages they can come up with, whilst still being serious as a value for money proposition. |

I would pay a premium for an unlimited 10mbs service and £60-70 does not sound too bad. I'd not be so happy about a adsl service of any speed, Take Zingle he's paying for 8mb and getting 5mb max during the day. On ntl he could drop his adsl and go for unlimited 10mb which would give him 10mb all day long. |

Anything more than 64k would probably be expecting too much from NTL on a 512k service. :erm: |

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
Looks to me that NTL are trying to avoid suspending the services of heavy users and are instead giving them a poor alternative to force them to get their broadband from elsewhere.
Nice idea... in theory. However, if these people have a fairly decent TV package, the phone line (which is used by a family - so is often quite big) and the 3mb internet package, they will lose a lot of custom not just from the heavy users but also friends and family of these users. For example, a colleague of mine at work had problems with NTL trying to bill him for things he did not receive... channels, 3mb broadband when he was only on 2mb and things like that. He was on the full whammy TV package and between him and his 2 lads, they usually had a big phone bill. He dropped the lot as he was getting fed up spending all his free time on the phone to NTL trying to get his money back that they had taken for things he did not have. He came in and told us about the problems... and 2 people have since moved away from NTL (not including myself, but I do plan to get Sky and ADSL when we move house anyway as NTL's tv service is shocking... 5 engineer visits over the last 6mths and the jerky picture continues - I have told friends and family about this aswell). Word of mouth is a powerful advertising medium... much more powerful than companies could ever imagine it seems. |
Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
Hmm actually he may be referring to the 'back in the day' 512k service when it was the only BB available.
