Do you think SD channels start to fade out, or do you think they will be here to stay?

Sky's comparative figures are a lot higher - about 60%. The figures come from a Sky annual report per a discussion a few years ago on DigitalSpy.
Eos/EOS is Liberty Global's working name for the new 4K box

I reckon in 2020 when all Freeview equipment will have to be capable of receiving HD signals, standard definition versions of the PSB channels might end. But I'm sure the likes of the CBS channels will be in SD for the foreseeable future.

Wonder if the new Tivo will even have a SCART port...

If not, I guess it will only work with HD ready teles and above...rendering non HD tvs and the use of SD channels into oblivion??

Think of all that bandwidth saved from the SD channels, might get us one decent 4K channel hahaha

Sorry I didn't see this before replying to Den...

Hopefully we can get rid of all the SD channels soon, some PQ on the SD-only channels that we have at the moment are terrible :-(

Even if it was hdmi only you can buy a adaptar for hdmi to scart if needed, i have one as got a old crt tv in the bedroom i sometimes take my Android tv box in there which is hdmi only and the adaptar does the job nicely.

I'm sure people wouldn't pay VM for a nice new 4K box just to use with a non-HD tv...that would be crazy.

You need to get a new tv mate! lol You can probably buy a HD ready tv for the same price as the adaptor :-)

Not to be horrible, but do VM care? They just want our money :D
Do they have HDMI dvd recorders? To be honest, I don't know anyone who backs up their recordings.

Well, it's coming and the original intention was that the BBC would be offering 4k as standard by this year. .

Given that the Tories have constantly tried to reduce the BBC funding, why should they spend the limited resources that they have on a minority viewership (i.e. 4k users)?

And thankfully, that other crackpot idea of subscription funding, has been dismissed, for at least eleven years.

There's plenty of fat in the BBC and as long as they get rid of the waste, I don't think they will be short of a few pennies.

Subscription funding is impractical at the moment and was never going to get off the ground at this stage. However, the next review will be a different matter. The Beeb are on notice to prepare for it.

You trot this out every time.

Given the pressure they are under, that has been dealt with and is an on-going issue that will continue to be dealt with, as it should.

To say they have plenty of money, is ridiculous. IMHO, It is propagated by people who's ultimate aim is to privatise the BBC. Given that you want the BBC to be a subscription service, I guess that would make you one of them.

Fortunately, the vast majority of the public feedback, prior to the White Paper disagreed with you, which is why we have the licence fee extended for at least eleven years.

We have been given new info from our Virgin Media UK Sources that says the two new TiVo will have their own dedicated superhub to work. They will launch within the next year.
