WELL DONE HOLLY BLEASDALE

To get to the final in the Pole Vault is a GREAT achievement - don't be disappointed you've a great future ahead of you

:clap::clap::clap:

I don't think her coach was very helpful, he appeared to destroy her focus on a couple of attempts.

She seemed visibly unsure of herself and upset,as she was stood there on the runway waiting for her coach to give her the "go ahead".

Surely when she's stood at the end of the track with a pole in her hand the coach should just keep his mouth shut and let her focus and concentrate on getting the vault right.

This is an interesting read.

"Going for Olympic gold: Does the winner take it all?"

As a non-sports-player (and not normally that interested in watching it) of course I would say that just taking part is an achievement in itself and getting any medal is fantastic. But then I can also understand that if you have worked towards getting "The Big G" for the last however-many years then I can see how not getting it is going to be really upsetting.

(For the record I missed out on my own 'Big G' at the HBA awards back in 2009; but I consoled myself with the fact that I was still one of the Top Ten Newcomers in the country :) ie at least I made the finals!)

Some bad news for us this morning as Phillips Idowu has been eliminated from the men's qualification round for the triple jump final.

---------- Post added at 13:19 ---------- Previous post was at 11:45 ----------

But more great news as Britain’s Alistair Brownlee takes gold medal in Olympic triathlon. Brother Jonny takes bronze.:clap::clap:

With our 20th gold, this is now our most successful Olympic Games since 1908.
