Virgin Media to add Challenge +1 to M Package.

Ahead of BSkyB puting Challenge onto Freeview.

From January 31st ALL Virgin Media Viewers will get Challenge +1 due to Virgin Media moving it to the M Package.

NOTE: Challenge +1 is broadcasting to XL Viewers right now.

Yes, Sky Atlantic is massive in terms of its importance to VM customers. I know that some have said they are not bothered, but the best American series will be on here and it looks like being a prestige channel.

VM are obviously trying to get the best deal for us, which is why an announcement is taking so long, but if a deal cannot be reached, I would be prepared to pay a subscription to receive this channel, much as this goes against the grain.

I would not want to miss out on those programmes. I would rather give up Sky Movies, frankly.

The point about Sky Atlantic that's easy to overlook is that Sky have already stated that they are also moving their new and best home-grown drama from Sky One to the new channel. That's going to mean that the likes of the Terry Pratchett and Andy McNab dramas will find a new home there. I, too, hope that VM manage to strike a deal on Sky Atlantic.

Each week Virgin seem to fall further and further behind Sky interms of something being announced and when it is announced we have to wait 6 months to a year to get it, they seem unable to grasp what you have to do to keep customers happy or up to date on things.

Stop moaning, Virgin have had plenty of announcements over the past 12+ months and they can't announce something if the content isn't there. The only things I can think of that Sky have announce are Sky Atlantic and Sky 3D. But think about it, Virgin have got, let's face it, the best TV On Demand platform in the country, and with the upcoming release of TiVO things are going to get even better. It helps to just be patient.

F1 goes HD

The BBC will broadcast Formula 1 in high definition for the first time this coming season.

The move comes after F1 commercial body FOM confirmed that all broadcasters will be supplied with a high-definition feed for the first time.

2011 World Rally Championship begins 11th February on ESPN

It's personal choice Andrew, it isn't a battle to 'win' for most customers.

Most subscribers don't hate Sky and love VM or the other way around. They are merely providers of a service just like a utility company.

If they are not providing what they want they can choose to move to someone who can, simple as that.

There isn't much on Sky I now IMHO. In fact there is virtually nothing for me but that is a matter of taste. If they are putting these things on Sky Atlantic then Sky 1 is going to be even more of a barren wasteland. Tonight at peak time they have got Simpsons repeats that are several years old. The fact is that they could have put all the new programmes on Sky 1 & 2. I wonder why they didn't?

I broadly agree re. Sky 1.

By all accounts Sky are looking to considerably beef up their own commissions for Sky 1 and well they should given their track record, it will have a more British feel to it so it could be a win, win for their own customers who have Atlantic too but we will just have to wait and see.

I'd be happy with them investing in more British drama for Sky 1 for now.

Sky will be advertising the launch of Sky Atlantic at considerable expense, and that, coupled with the the money it has invested in procuring programmes, will mean that they want to keep it exclusive for a period - an expensive ad for Sky Atlantic is also a free ad for Sky.
Once the dust has settled they will probably drop the price for other platforms and we'll see it on Virgin and maybe BT too. I fear that this won't be in time for season 5 of Mad Men, which means I will end up watching my favourite show on my laptop rather than my HD TV :(
Like Old Boy, this channel really appeals to me, but I'm not prepared to switch platforms for it. I still can't quite figure out why Sky didn't add it to the Sky Movies packages (that's how they premiered The Pacific last year) - I would have thought that would have driven more folk to take up more premium subscriptions and paid back quicker - but they've gone a different route, c'est la vie.
