Sweeney Todd 5/10
I wanted to like it, all the acting was great, it all looked very nice, but as stupid as this sounds, the singing kind of ruined it :(

But it's based on a musical, it has to contain singing! Depp was actually very good, he kept his London accent all the way through, I actually thought the guy who played Toby (who incidentally this was his first movie) was actually very good! Otherwise my sentiments are the same and I'd give it a 8/10

An amazing bad guy and some really good suspense, a real edge of the seat film.

Yep, brilliant film, but I didn't get the ending Not the bit where the main protagonist dies but after that I'd give the main bulk of the film 9/10!

The Invasion

Nichole Kidman and Daniel "I cant act" Craig star in a 2007 remake of invasion of the body snatchers.

Quite good in places & let down by poor acting in others. Worth watching though.

8\10

That's whay I said "As stupid as this sounds" 'cos it's kind of a silly thing to say about a musical, that the singing ruined it. I knew it orignally was one.

Depp's singing didn't ruin it, I dunno, depends if you want to see a David Bowie tribute act ;) None of the singing was bad, I just didn't enjoy the singing. Not my cup of tea rather than a fault of the film if you see what I mean.

Not the best Dreamworks movie but quite entertaining...kept my kids quiet for the duration , so it can't be that bad (I rather enjoyed it too)

I'd give the main bulk of the film 9/10!

Spoiler:
Its a tough one all right, but its essentially (i think) suggesting that Ellis (the cop) has just given up, he cant face "what's coming" and doesn't even understand it, he's given in and is retiring, ergo "No country for old men", its just beyond his comprehension what this guy is doing or why.

Its also hinting that after his own father died on his doorstep by a gunman, that he just escaped, (remember the hotel room with the bad guy behind the door) he stands on that door step for a looooong time thinking, he eventually goes in realised its too late and then just slumps on the bed. Im guessing more relived that he wasn't there than anything else.

Thats my take on it anyway.

Just back from Cloverfield, firstly Matt D summed it up perfectly earlier "The Blair Godzilla Project".

Secondly - IF you want to see this, don't wait for DVD, get to the cinema as its an audio tour de force, my ears are ringing.

Thirdly, its THE most UNBELIEVABLY frustrating movie i've ever enjoyed, you either want to smack some sense into some of them (Blair Witch parallels again) or tell them to turn that friggin camera in the direction of something interesting, because most of the time all you see is the wall, or a path etc whilst it sounds like World War 3 is kicking off in any other direction other than where the camera is pointing. DAMN im frustrated.... :grr:

As for marks, hell knows, i enjoyed it, but i feel like strangling a cat; however based on the fact i think it deserves a second viewing and for some reason i was on the edge of my seat, im going for an 8.

Cloverfield. I thought it was V. good if a bit vomit inducing with some of the fast moving camera stuff. 8.5 out of 10 for me.

I watched Cloverfield at the flix yesterday and thought the way it was shot was excellent. It takes time for the action to start, but it was well worth the wait.

it might help if you sit as far back from the screen as you can due to the shaky camera.

i'd give it 7/10

Meh, that's nothing.. Watched Cloverfield at The Empire Leicester square..

50 ft (at least) screen. Comfortable reclining seats, and a THX designed , 60 JBL speaker (I think) sound system..

:D

As for the film, thought it was excellent, even the fact it was shot on a hand held camera (a techniques that I think is slightly irritating, and overused by Hollywod) added to the tension.

The only thing that detracted from the experience was the soundtrack. While it was extremely impressive, but the video would have been shot on either a handheld DV camcorder, or a Handheld HDV camcorder. None of these (to my knowledge) capture a full surround soundtrack, so, to complete the image, it should really have been stereo.

The thought of paying so much to watch a film at the EMpire would in itself detract from the enjoyment of the film for me. How much is it nowadays Stuart?

Have they redesigned it recently? - last time I went there was 7 maybe 8 years ago, to see 'Shakespeare In Love' (don't ask..) and I thought the seating layouts were rubbish, there wasn't enough height difference between the levels, so had someone's head stuck right in the middle of it - AND - I had to listen to the girl I had taken to it see it complain about having someones head stuck in the middle of it.

Been to see Jumper earlier. I'd say it's worth a 6 out of 10.

Everything in it is good (especially Rachel Bilson :naughty:) apart from a couple of things. 1 minor, 1 not so minor.

The minor point is the fights get confusing, with the characters "jumping" all over the screen (and in one fight, apparently randomly to/from any one of three continents). This makes the fights a little difficult (but certainly not impossible) to follow.

The more major point, for me, is Haydn Christenson. I thought he had pretty much proved he can't act in Star Wars.. The director of this apparently thought he could. With a better lead actor, I'd be tempted to say this film was worth an 8.

Cloverfield - finally!

7/10 - the effects are awesome especially from when they're in the helicopter looking down at the creature. What spoiled it for me was that there was no attempt at an explanation for what is was, where it came from or why it was doing what it did, which kind of made the whole film pointless.

I tend to have a preference to foreign movies lately, seem to have a slightly different approach from your typical western movies, a great foreign movie i'd def recommend other than [Rec] is Nochnoy dozor (Russin Title) or Night Watch for us English speakin' folk :D it's a 2004 Action / Fantasy / Horror / Thriller i really enjoyed :) it's English subbed too and well worth a watch! :D

Rise of the foot soldier.
Gritty British gangster movie, superb acting, makes Essex boys look like a walk in the park. Although they are both based around the same true story of the triple murder in Dec 1995 this is by far more factual. What makes this a bigger and better film is the portrayal of the main characters and the intro\bio of Carlton Leech, how he rose through the ranks from ICF to become a not so stupid villain\hard case.
Its rough, its tough and with a little bit of artistic license its real.
Gets a big fist in yer face 10\10 from me.

Subway (1985, France)
Directed by: Luc Besson
Principle Actors: Christopher Lambert, Isabelle Adjani (pretty or what!)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090095/

We went to see this at the cinema when it first came out and loved it. I recently bought it on DVD and didn't! It could be something to do with the dubbing - first time we saw it in French with subtitles. Something has definately been lost in translation (Iroquoi - Quoi?) and the occasional American accent grates somewhat. There's some great gags - like the roller skates with headlights - but the whole thing just seems interminably slow. I'd remembered the outline of the plot - which is pretty simple - but, appart from the odd one or two, most of the scenes had been erased from my mind. Unlike...

Diva (1981, France)
Director: Jean-Jaques Beineix
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082269/
We only saw it once some 27 years ago but I could remember so much detail. This is a beautiful film with lots of plot and fantastic photography. I wish we had a projector so I could see it on a large screen again. It's in French with subtitles so if, like me, your French is pretty rusty then you have to be quick at reading. But then this film is more about image than dialogue. A bit dated now maybe but definately recommended.

Son of Rambow - 8/10

A really fun film and a great soundtrack as well.

I think it was the terrible acting that brought it down, because, really the storyline was pretty good...and it really got going about half way through imo.

5/10

Robert Zemeckis' all-CGI action epic about the mighty Cockney monster-slayer, Beowulf.

Apparently not too accurate an adaptation of the poem, but seeing as I still have never read it I didn't really care...

"I'VE COME TO KILL YORE MONSTA!"

[Shine ya boots, Grendel? Apples & Pears?]

Despite the apparently unfaithful adaptation, & the strange mixture of accents, this is a really good movie IMO. Great effects, great action, some interesting characters. Oh, & Grendel's Mum ;) ...

Definitely recommended.

Deathproof 2/10 i found this rather boring after a while and too much swearing just for the sake of it.

Copland (stallone) was ok 5/10 hardly award winning but enough action to satisfy.

Tears of the sun 4/10, i'm not sure what it was, i just didnt like this film.

Payback (directors cut) 8/10 loved it.

Jumper
Could have been a much better film if we had been given a little more insight into how "jumpers" get their gift and the fight scene's were a little less eclectic. Hayden Christensen seemed to have taken a couple of acting lessons since RotS but you would never have guessed it. Samual L Jackson was his usual credible self and gave the film a lift.
5\10

Cloverfield
Finally got round to watching it without falling asleep.
What else is there to say about this film, made for $25mil, grossed $40mil odd in its opening weekend, lots of hype, good FX and Cloverfield2 looks as though it could and should be on the cards.

7.5\10

Definitely being generous!
I think the last film Jennifer Connelly was in that was any good was Blood Diamond (8/10) likewise with Leonardo DeCaprio (he actually acts in the movie! I know, I was shocked too!)
Before that, it was Labyrinth (though she did look good in the Rocketeer, and that other film where she got her top off...)

May have been a bit slow in places and slightly predictable in places (were all script writers at heart) but its a film worth more than 1 Mr LM.

Watched this about 2 years and thought it was pretty good, personally I would give it a 6.375\10

St Trinians 10/10
I laughed so much it hurt!
Mate of mine watched it with me (yes, we're two pervs, but we're nice pervs) and he's normally a miserable bugger, but he was laughing all the way through too.
This is definitely a keeper!
Excuse me while I go and swoon over Talulah again *swoon*

Black Sheep 6/10
Funny in places, bit slow in others. Worth a watch, but not one to keep.

Schindler's List - 11/10

Not much can be said, really - the unfolding horror of it all; the incomprehensible hatred one human can have for another, for the slightest of "reasons"
