That's Sony who own the last ones and its many of Sony's channels still missing from cable. I wonder if more will follow??

I think Sony has overtaken Sky as the biggest provider of multichannels on satellite, so if Liberty has done a European wide deal with Sony, there could be lots more to come, in effect pretty much bringing channel parity between cable and satellite for the first time.

Finally catching up with Freeview?

The funny thing is, with so much talk of Fox News "coming soon", it seems a little odd that Fox would be considering adding Fox News but not YourTV. I would have thought that, as an FTA channel, Fox would want to get that channel onto every platform, if only to maximise advertising revenue.

Likewise, I wasn't saying that it is definitely coming. Just that creating 2 channel blocks for Sky Sports, each with an unoccupied channel slot appears to indicate that the gap has been left for a reason. It could be a coincidence, perhaps the powers that be just wanted a gap. ;)

SS Mix could be a driver to sky platform, it should be noted that AFAIK it's not even going to be on Now TV which is not a good omen IMO as you would of expected it to be

Pop 736 was removed from Virgin Media on 28 February 2011 so that True Entertainment could launch

Time will tell...

Isn't Fox News a FTA channel too?? I too am surprised that YourTV isn't in the list.

Looks like Sky Sports Mix is definitely coming.

The following channels now have placeholders off the EPG:

Sky Sports Mix

Sky Sports Mix HD

Spike

5 Star+1

Pop

Movie Mix

Movies 4 Men

Only Movies 4 Men is currently carrying a video stream.

There is also a duplicate MTV Live HD (with no video stream), perhaps this is a test for MTV Classics or a new HD version of an existing SD channel (exclusive?). What other Viacom channels are we missing?

Fox News is in the Variety bundle on Sky. VM are currently missing the following Viacom channels:

Spike and 5STAR +1 (already testing)
Comedy Central Extra +1
MTV +1
MTV Classic
Nick Junior +1
Nick Junior HD

Not really, that channel's there for the pay-TV refuseniks. VM customers already get the content on other channels so no point Fox paying VM more money for minimal viewers.

I'm guessing the "sleek and slender" box Liberty were referring to in their results the other day was the non-4k version.

It's certainly there for the FTA market and some of the content is available on other channels. However that content is usually available on other FTA channels, so FTA viewers can also get the content elsewhere. That's just how tv is these days, multiple repeats over multiple channels.

The fact that Fox cross promotes YourTV on their main pay-tv channel would suggest that it isn't just intended for pay-tv refuseniks, they appear to be actively trying to build the audience for the channel.

MB Views: Virgin Media UK set to move Film4 and Sky Movies HD Channels?

With Movie Mix and Movies 4 Men set to launch Media Boy HQ feels Virgin Media UK may move Sky Movies HD channels back by ten numbers and starting from Virgin UK Channels 441.

Film4 Channels may also move to make way for the two new confirmed Sony Movies Channels.

MTV Live HD switched transport streams, so there is a "Channel moved" entry for the old location and another entry the new one.

We are starting do think we are getting 5Star +1 and Spike due an new deal with Channel 5.

We think Virgin Media UK deals with Channel 5 - they only broadcasts in the UK.

And Liberty Global will now deal with Viacom - Like they did with Discovery and A+E Networks.

So we not see any more Viacom own channels coming with 5Star +1 and Spike.

WWE Network will come to VM during 2017, now we've been told 2 things regarding this the first info we have is it will be a app only and you will need to subscribe via wwe network website.
The second info we have (this will excite Vince) is VM will provide a live WWE Network stream on their EPG so you won't need to access the app to watch WWE Network live (ppvs etc), there will still be a app but you can either subscribe via WWE Network direct or you can subscribe via VM and just have the £9.99p/m added to your bill.
We will keep a eye on this one and any further developments/info we will let you guys know.

Which is the next major live event after the Rio Paralympics? Probably Wimbledon 2017 as I don't think Glastonbury has many feeds. By then, VM could have migrated everyone onto MHEG 4 boxes ensuring sufficient capacity for many more channels But the fact that we're starting to get more channel additions suggests that technology may not be the constraint that some feel it might be.

They won't need the spare capacity anymore for olympics because bbc won't be hosting them anymore as of 2018 winter olympic's Eurosport has the rights...

BBC has subsequently sub-licensed the 2022 Winter Games and 2024 Summer Games from Discovery. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/35473371

The BBC's stated aim is to wind down broadcast red button channels over time and replace them with connected red button IPTV streams. So demand for temporary spare capacity should reduce over time.

Just spotted Universal HD on channel 164. That can only have happened after BBC4 HD moved from 164(26th July).

Not convinced the EPG has been tagged correctly. Would CSI: Miami from 2004 be in HD? Although Radio Times website says it's in HD.

With a HD channel the programme itself will(or should) only be tagged as HD, if it is HD. It might be an old programme only available in SD.

Am sure it was in HD. The USA was filming HD before us in the UK really were broadcasting it.

The programme not the EPG will have been tagged as "HD". VM and the Radio Times will then both read the tag and advise viewers accordingly. Whether the flag is correct or not is a different matter.

I am in the process of sizing up my alternative package from Sky so comparing channels and am really surprised that I had no idea about most of the channels VM have added even a year ago. ok most are a waste of time but 1 or 2 I might have used if I had known. I wonder why VM don't communicate these things to their customers? (clearly I didn't read this thread enough!)

I'm sure this happens to lots of people.

They could easily send a message to TiVo customers, in fact I remember Carl saying that he had put this to the office of the CEO and they appeared very keen on the idea.

Generally, when channels are moved around, VM put a icon at the top of the discovery bar on the tivos but I don't know whether they have ever done it with new channels. Perhaps they should and make it "stick" there as well so it gets noticed.

But as we do not own the copyright we cant post them.

When Virgin Media UK do launch MB HQ think they will be on the following channels numbers:

All channels numbers are To Be Confirmed as time of posting. (???) = We think Virgin will put them on that channel number.

(213). 5STAR +1
(214). Spike
(428 or 445). Movie Mix
(430 or 446). Movies 4 Men
(507). Sky Sports Mix HD [Set to launch on August 24th]
(517). Sky Sports Mix [Set to launch on August 24th]
(626). Fox News Channel
(736). POP
(836). NDTV India
(837). NDTV Spice

NOTE: Movie Mix and Movies 4 Men will only appear before Sky Cinema HD if Virgin Media UK moved Film4 channels and also put Sky Cinema HD Channels but by 10.

The coming soon thread is to talk and discuss what could potentially come soon

If you want a definite what has newly launched use the "Virgin media change log" on this forum.

I doubt that anyone would want you to post them. You are still being very vague about what these "photos" show, most of the channels which actually have video/audio streams are encrypted so any "photo" wouldn't show very much. If someone is showing you photos of unencrypted feeds taken at the central headend, that is very nice but meaningless until the feeds hit the national network.

Many of the new channel placeholders are for FTA channels already available on Freeview. Remember that VM are now extending their network into new areas, and probably want to sell TV services to new customers. It makes sense to match the lower TV packages to what is available on Freeview. I imagine that it would be difficult to sell the packages to new customers when they discover that their favourite Freeview channels are missing.

It wouldn't make that much sense to VM, there's not much money to be made from adding FTA channels promoting premium rate "chatlines". Although adding addition adult subscription channels would bring in subscription revenue. It's all just speculation at the moment.

I think m>m was replaced on Sky by True Crime, which is also on Freeview local multiplexes together with Kix. Interesting that those channels weren't included in the last batch of placeholders on VM.

As far as Movie Mix is concerned, I was saying that it is more mix than movies.

There's probably more need to verify the EPG details for a channel such as Fox News than additional channels from existing providers such as Sony & C5.

There's quite a few additional adult subscription channels, largely of the pay per night variety. It used to be easy to check these when the Wildsat website was active. Since Wildsat closed it's not so easy to get a complete list, trawling through Sky listings on Lyngsat should provide the details but these channels tend to rebrand more often than Sky Movies, so not so easy to search without the current channel names.

Update: Check the encrypted channels in the 900's on Lyngsat's listing of Sky channels by channel number: http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/Sky-UK_chno.html

Babestation and its clones are funded from premium rate calls but wouldn't be appropriate for the shopping genre.

A mix of low budget movies, made for tv movies and the likes of Highway To Heaven, which certainly isn't a movie. Not really the sort of content I'd expect to find on the movie genre. General entertainment? ...perhaps.

(It was included in the Entertainment genre when it was carried on Sky.)

The business model is that the girl, clairvoyant etc are effectively self employed and only earn a cut of the phone calls, so it's in their interest to take as many calls as possible and keep them on the line for as long as possible.

Many pay a fee to the company too in return for being given the chance to earn some money, so they have to cover this before they start to earn a profit.

Sometimes a cut is taken by their telephone service provider too in return for the facilities that they provide, unless the equipment is leased or bought outright.

The usual costs of insurance, premises, EPG fees, uplink costs, electricity, Ofcom licenses, business rates, PPL & PRS fees for the music played etc etc all have to be met from this income stream as well (I think some will show adverts too to raise a little additional revenue).

jj20x is correct in that Sky only receive the normal EPG fee and any Platform Contribution Charge payable.

These types of channels would also have to pay VM for the privilege of going onto a private closed system, so you can see why, with all the associated costs having to be already met, there is less of them on cable.
