Great news and well done to Leicester City from a West Ham fan. It's wonderful that a team of no hopers has achieved the biggest prize in UK football led by a manager who seems to me to be a true gentleman. I hope they can keep it up next season and show the fat cats of football how it's done.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016
North London PL clubs have a rich history of bottling it when the pressure is on, season in season out :D
Congratulations to Leicester, made up for them. I wouldn't say I'm a supporter but from when I lived there I've had a soft spot for them. Remains to be seen whether or not they end up doing a Leeds in 91 or Blackburn from 95 by being a flash in the pan but although I doubt they'll win the league again for a while the club appears to have a good structure. Last year Kane was banging them in for fun, this season clubs seem better prepared for him - I get the feeling the same will apply to Vardy and Leicester rely on him a hell of a lot. Still, good on them :) |
Re: Football Season 2015/2016
Clubs are better prepared for Harry Kane who's top goal scorer with 25 league goals this season?

Re: Football Season 2015/2016
I for one congratulate Leicester City on the PL Title.
Secondly for those Spurs haters on this forum. I have watched Spurs all my life, and have blue and white blood in my viens. But, l was totally shocked by the performance of Chelsea players lasy night. All the off the ball fouls, Costa should have been sent off for the ugly tackles he was making. Spurs should have had a penalty, for the way he had his arms round each Spurs player, in every corner. Ivanovic was his usual cruel self and going in with nasty tackles. And then we have TWO talking points. Lamela and Costa, where Lamela ' stamped' om Costa. Costa gets up and runs to the linesman, showing his wrist in the face of the Linesman. Throughout the game, there were ugly tackles. And Clattenberg, and his officials failed to get a grip on the game. And to show authority . Chelsea went out of the way, as usual. When they are losing. They go on the cheating game. And this has gone on over the season. Spurs players where to blame in reacting. After the final whistle, Costa and Vorm were invloind in something RIGHT UNDER THE NOSES OF OFFICIALS. If you look SEVEN Spurs got booked. Only TWO from Chelsea. And the FA will look at Cost BITING a Spurs player. This was a chaotic derby, Each during the week, we had Chelsea players saying we HATE Spurs, even during the game there were chants of WE HATE TOTTENHAM from the Chelsea fans. Clattenburg, could have ordered the players concerned in the fighting to separate and RED CARDED them. As even though they are off the field of play, the referee is still in charge of the players. Until the reach the changing room A very vicious game. I think that IF Spurs do finish above Arsenal, this could be another factor why the Arsenal fans want Wenger out. I think that finishing below Spurs, this is unthinkable in North London |

You must have been watching a different game Arthur, it was Fabregas who was stamped on and NINE Spurs players got booked, an all time high (or low) in the Premiership and four from Chelsea.
|
Re: Football Season 2015/2016
You have pointed me correctly.
But Fabregas, is being blamed for inciting the trouble. From what l have heard. And the FA is looking into several videos of the game. So l can see players from BOTH sides, being banned for the rest of the season. And the start of next season. I find it extremely sad, that footballers behave in such an appalling manner. I think personally that a more stronger ref, such as Mike Dean should have taken this game. I feel that Clattenburg, should have been stronger from the start. I feel that there could have been troubkle at the end of the game, although, not reported. I have been to Stamford Bridge for Spurs games. And there is only One railway station - which is Fulham Broadway. I remember when l went there, there are blocks of flats by the station, and Chelsea fans were waiting for Spurs fans to come out. Before it kicked off |

All these polls with 90% plus saying that Leicester have achieved the greatest feat ever in English football is way off the mark in my mind.
Nottingham Forest, without the millions that Leicester have had won the 1st division in the 1st season after winning promotion to that division and then won two European Cups and European Super Cup. A similar sized, small city club with no super stars just like Leicester but IMHO a far superior achievement. |
Re: Football Season 2015/2016
No l disagree with you as football was a different game money wise then compared to now as there are many mega cash rich clubs just in the PS alone now where generally most of the big players go to thus Leicester have had to build a squad generally on a shoestring to try to compete against the many mega rich giants which in Nottingham Forest days were not there in the depth as they are now and although Nottingham Forests achievements are very very considerable they are not on the scale of Leicester winning the Premiership in my humble opinion.

Yes as l say Forest achievements were certainly unforgettable and how Cloughie was not England manager well l think we all know the answer to that but yes it would be wonderful to see Leicester progress in the Champions League next season..
|
Re: Football Season 2015/2016
Well it is certainly true that the passage of time diminishes ones achievements, especially for those that were not even born at the time.;)
As I said Forest won the 1st division at the very first attempt after promotion, not after two seasons in the top flight. A total of 42 games and only 2 points for a win but they still finished 7 points clear. There obviously wasn't the same money around then but the opposition was equally strong, Liverpool still in their prime, Everton, Man City, Arsenal all top class teams. To then go on and win 2 European Cups is far and away superior to what Leicester have done. Leicester have played very well this season BUT............. 1.They ducked out of both domestic cups at a very early stage. 2.They have been very lucky to have hardly any injuries at all compared to several of the 'big' teams. 3.All of the 'big' teams have been heavily involved in domestic and/or European cup competitions. 4.And the biggest bonus of all for Leicester and something that may never happen again for a very long time, every single one of the 'big' teams had a very inconsistent season, all together and at the same time. The dice fell very nicely for Leicester and I don't begrudge them their success but I still do not think it ranks with a league title at the first attempt followed by two European Cups with what was on paper a very ordinary team. |

Well it can be done but it needs the right players bought in the transfer market who can buy into it one hundred per cent physically , mentally and tactically and as we know so many players just want to pick up their big wages for the least effort these days apart from Leicester and Spurs and look where it got them.
|
Re: Football Season 2015/2016
It can be done in most European leagues with several 'walk over' easy games and a winter break but I do not think you could maintain that level over a full Premiership season including cup comps.
Liverpool have only really done it in the Europa cup games so far and it has affected their performance in the league a lot of the time. |
Re: Football Season 2015/2016
That's because they need more strength in depth thus that would give Klopp the capability to rotate more and rest more players when needed.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016
It's just bad choice after bad choice. A nice opportunity for a backroom clear out beside a squad clear out. You'll not find many disappointed geordie though. They're too busy wondering how a squad like that has just gone down. The answer isn't even a difficult one. A poor version of the Madrid technique. Buy anyone they think is good and slap them together in awkward fashion to create a team. As with Madrid it goes right 2/10 times. In Newcastles case they went for mid range random signings that added nothing but less experience. The train wreck is the final result. Players like Wijnaldum have to be booted asap.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016
Is it only me or does anyone else think the promotion play offs are intrinsically unfair.
I know that all teams accept it as the norm these days and only the teams finishing 3rd would vote against but a league performance is over 46 games, not a two legged match. How can it be fair that Brighton who finished 15 points ahead of Wednesday look likely to miss out, and tonight Walsall who finished 10 points in front of Barnsley are almost certainly out of it. :( Being constructive, my suggestion to give recognition to a teams season long performances would be a 1 goal start for every five points difference in the final tables, so Wednesday would have started at 0-3 and Barnsley at 0-2. |

Re: Football Season 2015/2016
What a nice way to end the season for Mitrovic. A brilliant Newcastle performance soured by a disgusting challenge allowing Spurs an even better shot at overturning 2 goals.
Scratch that it's 3-1 at Newcastle. This is the Newcastle that should've shown their real energy this season. Pretty confident of an instant bounce back if Benitez stays. The money's there, the managers there, the board are set to be sacked but it's Newcastle... Something can only fail. Also that was never a penalty, blatant dive. Newcastle 5-1 Spurs... Demolished by 10 men, Benitez can't be going, I've never seen an atmosphere like this, from a relegated team, utter madness at St James' Park as Benitez chants reign out. Big questions for Spurs, from chasing the title to being turned over in horrible fashion by a team a man down. Bottled it weeks ago and we're witnessing the implosion now. |

I am totally disgusted at a shabby performance, the Spurs players were a disgrace to the shirt.
I cannot understand the way they played. I saw the whole game, and at the end at least Poch, said he was ashamed and embarrassed for the fans, and families who were supporting us. Not only did they beat by RELEGATED team, they went down to TEN MEN. And we still bloody lost. A few weeks ago Poch said in an interview, that it didn't matter whether we finished above Arsenal, its we are in the highest position that we have ever been in and in the Champions League. I think they were just playing out time Well done to the Arsenal. As a long time Spurs fan:(, l am disgusted.:( |

Re: Football Season 2015/2016
Brendon Rodgers has made the biggest mistake of his managerial career . By becoming Manager of Celtic.
At least he wont have to worry about winning titles. What they do is give Celtic every honour at the beginning of the season. And let all the other 'minnows' of Scottish Football to try and take the titles/cups off Celtic Brendan could have waited for a bigger club to come in for him. Scottish football, sadly isn't as big as it was many years ago. Scottish football used to have some big major clubs, but it has gone down drastically over the years. There has been a suggestion that with the EFL, thinking of changing the format of Football League, and having Celtic and Rangers involve - don't you think that is an insult to Scottish football. I am a great believer that Scottish Football and English football should merge, to create a football destiny, but you have Chairman who don't want it. Several years ago, there was talk of Celtic and Rangers joining the EPL. this was block totally by PL chairman. Now it has come round again Next season, we will have the usual aggro between Celtic and Rangers. But, l think Brendan should have gone for and EPL club Just look at TV money, being thrown at EPL by Sky and BT. Now look at Scottish Football ? What should happen is have Scottish games on Setanta. or even Premier Sports ? |
Re: Football Season 2015/2016
What hope is there for Rodgers waiting for a big club? An almost success at Liverpool but besides that he's been hopelessly out of his depth, him and Moyes are almost identical in managerial stature
