Cheers.

Then why don't you befriend someone with access to the right equipment? There must be many people on the various forums you could ask. You could then risk upsetting your sources by posting sensitive info.

MB still does a lot to keep us informed as and when he can. Currently he is just keeping his word and protecting his sources. Nothing wrong with that in the slightest!

Thanks for rumour.

This is why i'm reluctant to post rumours nowadays some people don't understand people like me and MB get given the rumours if we're told not to post them for the time being then we will respect the wishes of the rumour giver.

There seems to be an awful lot of DNP orders relating to events that never actually quite materialise. All very cloak and dagger, or a complete waste of time, depending on your perspective.

One would presume that the freeview also applies to XL as LFC is a subscription channel. 15th April is also the Hillsborough anniversary.

Channel 5 +1 in HD - that news to me seen nothing online about Viacom set to launch an other Channel 5 channel in HD.

I know they are regional variations of Channel 5, Channel 5 HD and Channel 5 +1.

Channel 5 HD is not even broadcasting on Freeview.

MB is perfectly capable of speaking for himself without you stirring things up (and indeed has done).

There has never been any suggestion that MB should abuse the trust that someone has placed in him (indeed I have kept quiet or not posted things until a given date at the request if sources).

The issue here is that the "confidential" information is available anyway to anybody with the right equipment. VM obviously want to keep the names of the channels that are testing private as they have taken the unprecedented step of giving them code names; revealing how many channels are testing will not change this.

What on earth did HBO expect after limiting their content to a contract with Sky? Whilst it's not a series that i'm particularly interested in, I would investigate alternative ways of availing myself of it if Sky/HBO directly or indirectly refused to supply the material to my Pay TV provider.

Indeed. Spike's schedule is listed on Digiguide, it looks pretty much like a 5* clone with a few extra programmes and minus the Australian soaps. 5*, going forward, keeps the Australian soaps and gains new material from Viacom, such as Catfish.

The Freeview EPG is notoriously unreliable when slots change hands. Although the 2 hour slot you have noticed could be an indication of Viva being used for an EPG squatting exercise on Freeview. Viacom/Channel 5 certainly have enough spare capacity (teleshopping) to take a couple of hours out of one of their other channels on Freeview to create a new slot.

Viva's schedules, going forward, show it reverting to a basic music video channel and losing the "entertainment" shows. Music video channels don't bring in enough revenue to fund carriage on the national Freeview multiplexes, so it is unlikely that Viva would be used for anything other than an EPG "placeholder" on Freeview.

Sky Living to focus on US Acquisitions with homegrown moving to Sky One.

Quote:

Stuart Murphy director of Sky entertainment channels, outlined his plans in a note to staff.

“As part of a strategic realignment of the entertainment portfolio we have decided to supersize Sky 1, dramatically increasing the investment in home-grown shows on our main entertainment channel,” he said.

“As part of this reallocation of budget, the majority of home-grown shows on Sky Living will move over to our main entertainment channel from next fiscal, with Sky Living focusing almost exclusively on US dramas going forward.”

Nothing to do with Sky Atlantic , Sky Living already shows a considerable amount of US content , no doubt some of the current US series shown on Sky One will move over to Sky Living also.

Lol, very funny first sentence. Not quite sure how that was stirring things up, but there we go. Apologies mods if I was/am stirring things up.

Of course, he can speak for himself. It does not preclude me from suggesting a way for you to the find the info out for your self and then gaining a better understanding of why the his DNP's are in place.

Ultimately, we are talking about peoples jobs here, and there is a real possibility of someone receiving very serious reprimands for disclosing sensitive information, if it is let slip online.

The saliant point is that the information is in the public domain for those with the capability of tuning into off EPG broadcasts.

You're right in that some 'leaks' can be traced back to the individual concerned and that it's not worth someone losing their job over, but I can't see it being possible in this instance.

All we know is that a number of unamed channels are testing on the system and that a sizeable number of people have access to this information. I doubt VM are particularly bothered, particularly as the channel names have been coded and the broadcasts encrypted.

That's not to say that I would encourage anybody to breach a trust on information passed to them.

I take your point but lets be honest they are an even bigger mess at the moment , who knows maybe we'll see a complete rebrand.

Wasn't Sky Living originally aimed at a female audience hence why its logo was once a pink colour , Sky needs to go back to the drawing board with both channels in my opinion as they are a complete mess.

Agree with you regarding the sky channels being a bit of a mess. I can`t understand why they don`t do more with sky 2,which at present is no more than a repeats channel. As you also point out the Living channel was originally aimed at women but as somehow lost it`s way these days.

Sky have been consciously moving Sky Living away from the Female slant for quite some time now.

Like others, I like the idea of the new proposed focus of Sky One and Living.

Sure thing. The VM channel listing has been needing some "TLC" for some time now. It simply looks stupid; the news channels have as much space than the docs and lifestyle (combined). I think Virgin should employ Sky's HD swap system by moving HD/SD variations to the bottom of each section.

That was the reason for Sky purchasing the Flextech channels they had been trying for years to get a female focused channel which was a hit with viewers and after 2 failed attempts decided to just buy Living. However if the plan was to just morph it into Sky 1 lite why pay the money for it?

Whoever is looking after Sky1 needs the sack IMO they are doing an awful job and some of the commissions dreadful. The same needs to be said for whoever is looking after Sky Living.

Or at least put the HD variant next to the SD channel as in some cases(ITV) they are miles away and many people probably just watch the SD instead of going looking for the HD ones.

It's not really launching on TalkTalk. TalkTalk YouView, BT YouView and retail YouView boxes provide the standard Freeview channels of which Spike will be one. But I appreciate that Spike's website does state TalkTalk so perhaps TalkTalk has paid to be included on the adverts and BT has not.

Pretty pointless i know but there you go!

Spike will be on the COM6 mux so wont be available to customers on Freeview Lite. I assume the dual slots would make a streamed version available to those people who cant get it "off-air".

Thanks, that explains the (what seemed at first) strange decision.

So those BT customers who are on Freeview Lite won't be getting it to begin with, unless BT agree to stream it as well.

i'd imagine another free upgrade for all...i'd still prefer them sorting out the utilisation issues and give me the 150mb im on at the moment as i can barely get 20mb on busy periods....

Media Boy EXCLUSIVE: Media Boy HQ reveal more info on what testing.

Media Boy HQ can now reveal that Virgin Media has been testing up to 8 "V0--" channels some days over a last month.

But base on latest info we have this number was lower.

NOTE: UNTIL ANY NEW CHANNELS LAUNCH THE NUMBER IS STILL SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

No real names just seen.

V0 (Follow by two numbers) up to 8 times but new set numbers on each one - some days only.

Base on latest info the number of channels testing under the name "V0--" is less than 8.

BIB no VM were asking too much for the channel to be on their platform according to a source.
The others i think nat geo wildhd will come this month.
6 i think are possibly just local channels.

I doubt VM would bother name coding the channels of Local TV stations (if that's what you meant by regional channels). Beyond this I really have no idea!

A certain somebody from earlier on is still harassing me (via PM) about these channels!!! Anybody know how to block messages on here please?

If you look under your 'options' (user CP > Edit options) you can disable PM's there.

You can order the HD box on-line at virginmedia.com for £20 self install. If you phone them up you might even sweet-talk them into sending it for free.

There's also a "mystery" billing item "HD monthly charge" that will appear but it's zero rate for XL customers

See here for details

We've got the Cisco HD box and it works nicely, still outputs SD on the SCART even on an HD channel. Handy for DVD recorders and modulators.

We think we know the ones you are on about:

Nat Geo Wild HD - TESTING NOW ON VIRGIN MEDIA USING REAL NAME.

plus

HISTORY HD
Disney Channel HD
CI HD

But can't make up our mind on the other up to 5 channels that may also launch.

We have only get 5 ideas from the following list:

Interestingly, for me, no AJ HD that i saw on another site.

I followed a link from a post on DS and it said:

May 2015
Al Jazeera English HD

It's annoying me that i cant find the link now. It was a list of VM channels and had a separate listing of coming soon, didn't specify that it was a rumour, seemed pretty certain and since AJ HD is available on Freeview, you never know.

AJ HD is an rumour until I see it testing on Sky - or the broadcaster confirm launch.

Look what happen with CNN HD.

Those 3 in bold are exactly the same ones i have been given and ofcourse natgeo wild hd which i mentioned ages ago it was coming.
The 5 i am still convinced they are regional channels i can't think of any others unless they may be spiketv and trutv and mtv classics, i'll dig around see if i can find anything out.
Spiketv seems unlikely though unless Viacom and vm have reached a agreement.

Wow this is very interesting...If they do team up, would it just mean Sky paying more and then we will get another Sky Sports increase?

But its definitely worth watching and seeing what happens

It'll be interesting i think nbc and bt together would out bid sky easily, i really hope silly money isn't paid though as it's getting stupid now.

Maybe BT could get some of the games and NBC the rest? Cutting Sky out would put the cat amongst the pigeons and may result in some unexpected benefits in the longer term.

Yeah because that will really help , aren't we already paying well over the odds now for Sky Sports and BT Sports owing to fierce rivalry.

Another bumper payday for footballers the only change being then we now pay BT for the majority.

Thankfully my pay TV days will be long over by then.

Prices will go up anyway with Sky on the scene.

However, if Sky were forced out of the premierships, and decided to focus on something other than sport for its principal offering, maybe we would see some common sense coming through on bids and prices in the longer term.

It won't happen this time around, though, it's true.

Sky are already fleecing us with constant rises and BT are set to reportedly start charging for champions league , for somebody to take the football from Sky requires them to pay more which means even more money to recoup.

NBC will never buy UK sports rights in my opinion even ESPN owned by Disney soon retreated out of the fierce UK market.
