I would have thought this is for the CL rights. For the FTA matches it'll just be unencrypted.

Will BT do the same trick as Sky and say as this channel wasn't in the wholesale agreement then VM doesn't get it free for a year?

Look to me like BT will broadcast three games on TV

-BT Sport 1 (PTV)
-BT Sport 2 (PTV)
-BT Sport Extra 1 (FTV - also on Freeview)

DS Forum is reporting that BT are also testing 8 Red Button channels on Sky right now.

A516 did report on May 2nd:

Another slot is available nationwide from January 2015 through to 2018/19. However, the slot (but not the channel number) will be shared by another broadcaster between 6pm and 11pm for two weeknights every other week.

I've just noticed an advert on Sky News (For new Political Editor Faisal Islam) showing all the channels they broadcast on. It shows Sky 501, Virgin 502 (Think they meant 602 there!) Freesat 202 and Freeviews new channel number for Sky News on 132.

I've just been round my mums to retune her freeview HD box for the channel changes it's just done. I noticed it has 4+1 HD and 4seven HD. Don't know if they've just appeared or if they've been on there for a while. Have I missed them being discussed on here or does anyone remember them being brought up with regards to Virgin Media getting them? Ta.

I think Channel 4 +1 HD is just broadcasting on Freeview HD until Channel 4 deals with both Sky and Virgin are up. Then you may get 4Seven HD launching on Virgin Media.

Another theory is that they are placeholders for Film4 HD and E4 HD when the current deals with Sky and/or Virgin end.

IIRC, wasn't the Horror Channel originally in XL or L before being moved down to M+?

I have suggested for a long time that it would benefit both VM and it's customers to have the best of Freeview and Freesat in the M pack.

A channel 4 employee has confirmed that the extra Channel 4 HD channels are on Freeview only at the moment to utilise otherwise wasted capacity. In due course, it is hoped to get these channels onto other platforms.

I think that M was created to try to prevent customers from defecting to Freeview and I'd say that it tends to roughly mirror the Freeview channel line up.

Adding the best of Freesat too might tempt customers like myself who are thinking of ditching pay TV, as it's more convenient to have all the channels on one platform and I wouldn't mind paying the TiVo fee to manage the recordings.

The (temporary?) addition of the CBS channels looks like a step in the right direction :)

Today I saw that an channel has been added overnight to 'Total Channels'.

But no new channels has appeared on the Virgin Media EPG. So Media Boy HQ think it for BBC Alba english commentary via the red Button that is starting tonight for the Pro 12*.

Seen rumour on test on Sky for it on DS Forum.

I hope they add this function when they show Scottish football, it's murder listening to these ppl talking in Gaelic, a language that practically no one understands, or needs, imo!

Why does bbc alba exist? I know by law the bbc have to produce content for all known languages in the country but it seems odd that Gaelic has about 30k speakers? But they also speak English? Seems odd to qualify for a channel then the channel aimed at millions of young people 16-30 can be axed? I know budgets are way different but seems odd. Couldn't Gaelic only program's be put online instead?

Is it not possible on Tivo to have alternate language handled as a additional audio channel instead of red button, I was really disappointed when I tried out the alternate commentary during the world cup only to be given a poor picture that looked sub broadcast SD.

It's possible on TiVo, but not the other boxes. A red button app is necessary to make it available to everyone.

It's coming next month to the UK will be exactly same as USA version and cost the equivelent of $9.99.
Night of Champions is the last WWE PPV on Skysports all others will be on Sky box office however they will also be live on WWE Network global.
The reason they're staying on Sky box office is for the casual watcher who doesn't want the network.
Unlocator smart dns is working fine on the network.

Using Overplay there's your problem mate they are the worst dns service going, unlocator will give you a free 7 day trial then it's $4.99p/m afterwards, or there's unblock-us who are good too these are same price and also give a free 7 day trial.

did we find out why the network launches on 1st october and not in august like the others?? Or is it they're going to go for massive advertisement campaign for the brits this month?

I think it has something to do with the last free ppv being this month on Skysports and the new contract with Sky kicks in in October.
I'm guessing on that but judging by what i've seen on various sites this seems like the most valid reason.

Can I ask a question bud?

Does the WWE Network offer all episodes of WCW Nitro and Thunder? Is so, and if you don't mind, next time your on the Network can you check to see if they have anything listed from 3rd April 2000? This was a WCW special which was broadcast between the Spring Break-Out PPV on the 27th March 2000 and the infamous Russo / Bischoff reboot on the 3rd April 2000.

I remember watching the WCW special episode on TNT which I'm sure was hosted by Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan. It was a look back at the heritage of TNA / WCW and the key moments in WCW history. It was a great episode which aired in preparation to the reboot.

I've been requesting this episode on the 2 main wrestling torrent trackers for years without success. It finally turned up about 6 weeks about but wasn't in English

Any info would be appreciated.

ATM mate only 1995 and 1996 years are available for Nitro, they have only just started to add Nitro episodes though so i'm sure in a few months it'll be there.
The ppv Spring stampede is on there though.
I've attatched a screen shot of the 2000 ppvs for you.

Also, under vault is Clash of Champions which I believe were WCW PPV's.

From what I gather, as they put each show of Nitro on they will put the same episode of RAW up as well. I think the idea is they will slowly build up the catalogue of the MNW.

Sorry guys, l wouldn't waste my money on WWE, its the biggest fix on Tv. Similar to British Wrestling.

I watches a American Wrestling programme when the late British Bulldog, was performing. And there was a bout involving about 30 wrestlers in it. The wrestler who started the bout actually won it. And the farce surrounding it.

Sorry buys l think its all fixed and wont watch it I used to watch the Royals, big tag teams, Big Daddy - and with Big Daddy, you knew who would win it.

Yeah, it's all choreographed, scripted and a great advert for the use of steroids. I used to love the Royal rumble though.

The British Bulldog used to be my favourite (followed closely by Macho Man and The Ultimate Warrior:(:(:(). I have not watched it for years, I stopped after Vince M (do I remember he used to a ref at one stage) had just bought it out.

It all started getting a bit silly in my eyes after that. I was not a fan of the new breed of wrestlers, the daft storylines, the excessive amounts of PPV's and I strongly disliked the "beating" up of women that happened quite frequently. There is/was no need for it in a family friendly entertainment show.

Still, my brother seemed to like it, and a number of work colleagues still enjoy it now.

I stopped watching the WWE years ago but still enjoy their reality based programming and documentaries. I enjoy the stories behind the shows and the curtain being pulled back to reveal how the business works. I suppose I'm more a fan of the wrestling business than the product.

That's harder to prove. Everybody has found eggs that the Easter bunny leaves.

I saw big Daddy lose once (ridiculous foul by Haystacks that the ref missed!) so obviously it's not fixed.

Assuming a yes vote which in itself is still 50/50, it's far too early to say at this stage what would happen to BBC broadcasts in Scotland. The two countries may come to an arrangement for them to continue FTA but even if devolution is agreed on then there will be a date in the future for that to actually be implemented and a future date for any changes to occur in TV broadcasting. By which time TV as we know it now may have changed out of all recognition anyway.
But this is all off-topic - BT Sport Extra and truTV (dates tba) are what's coming soon!

ITV chief: Force BSkyB and Virgin Media to pay retransmission fees
Public service broadcasting programmes, such as Coronation Street, represent the majority of viewing on pay-TV platforms, says ITV's chief executive.
ITV has called on BSkyB and Virgin Media to pay potentially tens of millions of pounds in annual fees to be allowed to air ITV, BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5 in pay-TV homes.

Adam Crozier, ITV chief executive, said the public service broadcasting channels are by far the most popular on pay-TV, and that Sky and Virgin should be forced to make “retransmission” payments to carry them.

“The majority of viewing on these pay-TV platforms is PSB programming yet ITV, whether as producer or broadcaster investing in creating that content, doesn’t receive any payment,” said Crozier. “The impact of this wholly outdated regime is that UK public service broadcasters are forced to subsidise major pay-TV platforms. It is in the interests of all broadcasters that we encourage the regulator and government to look again at this issue for the benefit of the industry and viewers.”

Various figures have been bandied about over the last few years as to the potential income that PSBs might make from retransmission charges, ranging from tens of millions of pounds to as much as £200m annually.

ITV points out that last year US free-to-air broadcasters received about $3.3bn (£2bn) in retransmission payments from cable operators.

In the UK, PSBs are in the opposite position of having to pay BSkyB and Virgin to have their channels carried on their platforms.

BSkyB has cut its retransmission charges, which apply to more than 100 TV and radio channels, in recent years with PSBs expected to pay about £11m a year by the end of 2014.

“Introducing retransmission fees would have clear benefits to the UK creative industries and the wider economy – as well as to viewers right across the UK – by enabling PSBs to continue to invest in the original programming people love to watch,” said Crozier.

Last year culture minister Ed Vaizey called on BSkyB to scrap its charges, or possibly face regulation.

In 2010, the then BBC director general Mark Thompson put the issue of retransmission fees in the spotlight, using his MacTaggart lecture at the Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival to launch an attack on the double standards at Rupert Murdoch’s Fox.

Thompson noted that 21st Century Fox – Sky’s biggest shareholder, with a 39% stake – successfully gets US satellite and cable operators to pay retransmission fees for its channels, including Fox and Fox News.

I'd imagine Scottish bbc will just separate and become it's own channel meaning you'd lose access to all the shows Scotland had been used to. I think at the moment Scotland is going down the road of "change for the better" path a bit like obama promised back in 2007. Change sounds great compared to the status quo but what is this "change for the better..." No details have been given except it'll be "better".

But yeah I'd imagine they'll separate and then have to make deals for each individual show? If the bbc are vindictive they might not agree to it? But I suppose Scotland bbc will have it's own budget to make it's own shows

I would assume its this amount

Broadcast states that ITV will save £2 million a year from the deal.

Freesat, in comparison, charges £75,000 per BBC TV channel, £37,500 per regional variant and £6,000 per radio station every year. Unlike Sky, the Freesat fees are solely standard EPG and regionalisation charges.

If Sky and VM are forced to pay for the ITV channels hopefully they'll also include an opt out for all its customers , I have a Freeview TV and a YouView STB so I refuse to pay for these channels when I can already watch them through my TV at no extra cost after I've paid my TV license.

At this stage no one knows. This will be worked out, in the event of separation. Freesat is one option.

One proposal was for a Scottish Broadcasting Service, to take over from the BBC to opt into programmes by contract, al la RTE in Ireland where they simulcast a number of programs. No decision on adverts, it should be free at the point of delivery.

I believe the BBC will try an maintain their presence in Scotland. This could be through an arrangement with the Scottish Government, SBS or via payTV services.

It hasn't happened yet. I believe a considerable amount of people would like to maintain the programs, but not the news services, that would need to be based in Scotland!

But very controversial

The BBC just won't disappear! BBC1/2/3/4 and the radio services are available across europe, either pay tv or free via freesat. Radio is available all over the world.

No one knows what will happen in the negotiations. But for commercial and funding reasons, the BBC does not want to loose £320 millions in license fee money.
One proposal, which you partly talked about was the SBS proposal, hive off BBC Scotland services, keep/buy in the best network programming, as they do in Ireland (the programmes air at exactly the same time!). The rest of the schedule is made in Scotland or imported.

The BBC could remain, have a presence via BBC Scotland/SBS like the S4C model

BBC can't just disappear, there is freesat and as I already stated commercial funding reasons meaning the BBC just won't let 5 million viewers or listeners go.

Freeview could just be restricted to transmitting channels that cover England and Wales and accept some spillover into Scotland. But that's way off topic!
"Coming soon" may well become a smaller thread if we're to believe Darren Childs of UKTV which enjoys a 9% UK market share. He's predicted the number of TV channels will decrease as there is no growth in TV advertising or carriage fees. http://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2014/...decrease-soon/

From the article...

plus the £12m annually provided by the Scottish government for Gaelic broadcasting,
There's a saving straight away, absolutely ridiculous that we are spending money on this minority and very rarely used language!

Also just vote NO, saves a lot of hassle.

According to the good Friday agreement it does, also stated on the Guardian's article above. It may be on low power.

It has high viewing figures, it's good value for money and Gaelic speakers are license fee payers too, so should get services in their language.

Moderators this has gone very OT now

What is the source for this?

Does it include football matches that no one tunes in to hear the gaelic language?

Read th guardian article. ATM 600k which in Scottish terms is really very good. It has always been popular since launch when it was 500k

If the argument is "Gaelic speakers are licence fee payers too, so should get services in their language", then I wonder how far that argument should be advanced in favour of the Punjabi/Polish/Kurdish/French communities who live in the UK?

I see your point, but 1) the minority ethnic groups you speak about already have TV and radio services (a vast amount) 2) Scotland's Gaelic speakers have no alternatives, only TV and radio in languages not of the own 3) mis conception, the programming is general Scottish programming, for all of Scotland not only for Gàidhealtachd or of Gàidhealtachd interest.

Do they have a vast amount of services provided by the licence fee, which they have to pay in order to access those that aren't?

I'm a big fan of ALBA 70's, ALBA 80's and ALBA 90's. Great nostalgic programming. Also don't mind the Gaelic commentary over the top of the live Scottish football they show.
