It's good news about premier sports but looking at the sports rights they have you'd really have to be a huge nascar or Australian rugby league fan to even contemplate paying the subscription afterwards

NHL as well.

Not, as with other Premium Sport channels, I'll watch enough of it to make a subscription worth while, especially if I'm spending a similar amount on Netflix by that point, but I'm pleased it's here and I will make use of the freeview. Good compromise deal imo, so fair play to both sides.

Watching Brazillian football on Premier Sport and the PQ is awful. No wonder it's free.

Hi,just watching the football now on premier sports.the SD picture quality is appalling.anybody else agree. Cheers John

I am still struggling to understand why Virgin do not place more emphasis on the launch of new channels. After all, how many of us would genuinely know that Premier Sports has now launched if they had not read it here.

If Virgin can place a message on screen informing us that an update is scheduled, surely they could do the same for any new channel launch. It;s hardly intrusive, and one press of a button and it's gone !

I think both Virgin and Premier Sports will make official announcments later. After the bashing Virgin took about not carrying the channel, leading up to the Rugby World Cup, they are bound to shout this deal from the rooftops.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 5.

Sounds like the right deal for PS, free until the end of this year and then £7.99 a month afterwards. Could not see the justification for it being within the XL package and if given the choice (I hope), I would take Netflix anyday as something added into the XL package; it is a matter of what has the more wider appeal across VM customers and potential customers so commercially more of a deal grabber.

At least those PS fans here now have the channel and free until the end of the year if Media Boy's post is correct which we should know soon with an official announcement today I guess.

Agree with the comments regarding the PQ on Premier Sports, very very poor. Still, another new channel is always good

Absolutely concur. Awful picture, awful sound and awful programming ... and to expect people to pay nearly £10 for SD in this modern era of television is horrendous business. They should charge a maximum of £2.99 for a channel of this quality.

So premier sport is ticked off. That's how you launch a channel fox+. Straight in there and launched. Fox + will be on my gravestone at this rate

So if we can get fox + out the way, netflix and then those missing sky channels next that'll be super ...

Any juicy gossip likely to happen today

Premier Sport isn't really "ticked off" it's just responding to pressure from MPs to have the World Cup shown in UK as being pretty darn stupid that the host nation can't even show to its country!

Once it goes premium then no longer available to regular VM viewers so technically "ticked on" again

Right so let's work this out on sky bt sports package £15 p/m premier sports £9.99

On vm all included in xl pack
Personally not remotely interested in premier sport,I can't help but be amazed by yet another great deal and clearly now vm have the best sports channel deals

Can't agree - it will still be available on VM (albeit at a price but so is everything else) for those who want it - so "ticked off" again

I'm not going to mention again how the letters MP were used in the article to make it stand out. It just happened to be that the leader of a Rugby Group was an MP. His request to Virgin Media was not in a government capacity, and it was a single MP and MPs

Nope, this all they have hence the slightly muted response from some. If you like Rugby League then this is great but otherwise, nice to have but I can't see me watching much.

In terms of PQ it is as bad as anything on VM

Don't really understand why , probably half the ones who are moaning have the option to switch to VM just can't be bothered to. VM have done a good deal for their customers this now allows them to give the channel a good look , can't see many paying once it goes encrypted though personally unless NHL and Rugby are your thing.

They have no choice as in the increasingly competitive market Sky will need to wholesale its channels in order to maintain their position and their profits.

Of course they don't, Dave, but behaving in the way they have been doing in the past is not cricket. In fact, it's downright uncompetitive. What other companies resort to such tactics?

Sky and Virgin are on a better relationship now, evidenced by the fact that the multi million fibre deal was agreed earlier this year, and there is now a new understanding in place. This has probably been bolstered by the advent of Liberty Global and the appointment of the former Sky guy (whose name eludes me for the moment).

The media has been reporting that Virgin and Sky have been in talks and Sky have even held up the launch of their new Sky Bravo channel in an effort to get Virgin Media on board.

There is every reason to be optimistic, and from what I can ascertain, the deal is already done. It's just a case of timing now.

The only thing preventing a deal involving the other missing Sky channels (particularly Sky 3D) is Virgin Media itself. Given that all new large screen TVs are now providing 3D as standard, I don't think Virgin would pass off the opportunity to add Sky's 3D offering because Virgin's is not awfully good at the moment.

So I am pretty optimistic, despite Media Boy's thinking that Sky 3D is not part of the likely Sky deal. We will know for sure within weeks.

I am hoping that some kind of SA On Demand deal will be included. Just to try and catch up on GoT mainly. I really liked the look of The Tunnel, but obviously missed the start of it.

I would really prefer Universal HD to come to VM (and them shortly after a 3TB TiVo box) as they do have some great programs on there now.
That and the BBC 3 & 4 HD channels would be great for VM this year.

The network backhaul deal has a absolutely nothing to do with Sky channels appearing on VM, I have no idea why you keep pedalling this wildly optimistic rubbish.

From what you ascertain, the deal is already done, and apparently has been done since about June. But whatever, they chose not to actually launch the channels they have supposedly paid for and signed off, because of, err...***** and giggles I guess?

You seem to have this incredibly misguided opinion that Sky are desperate to get their channels on VM, which flies in the face of pretty much all the actual evidence.

We also won't 'see within weeks'. Just like we didn't the last 30 odd times you have said this over the last 6 months.

Or maybe just Virgin Media business met Sky's requirements the best , its a 5 year deal at around £50 million so basically £10 million a year. Its a financial transaction that's beneficial to both sides nothing more nothing less. Some of the missing Sky channels may very well arrive at some stage but that's still dependant on the two companies reaching a commercial agreement which is beneficial to both parties.

It's a commercial arrangement to the financial benefit of VirginMedia Business which although part of the same group, as far as I am aware, nothing to do whatsoever with the consumer side. Same with BT. BT Openreach provide circuits back to VMB POPs where VMB have no fibre presence, it doesn't mean that BT consumer side and VM consumer side are going to jump into bed together when they are both vying for the same customers.

It would be worrying if the Parliamentary Rugby League Group were to be able to force VM to carry a particular channel, but I've no doubt that their influence did help as MP's do have a lot of power.

It is certainly not Cricket where Sky are concerned, they do not know the meaning of how to behave like gentlemen.

VM are to increase their VOD 3D offering, so I would be surprised if they didn't try to obtain Sky 3D to improve their niche offering.

i've never seen the need for 3D coverage and i dont think it'll last in its current format to be honest. i watched the 3d football in a bar once and it was most underwhelming. respect to those who do like it and would want sky 3d but i'd just be happy with the missing HD channels and atlantic.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 5.

Many broadcasters have thrown in the towel as far as 3D is concerned.

VM have decided to pursue 3D (I assume as a niche market) via VOD. Sky are keen to increase viewing figures for Sky 3D, so I am surprised that Sky and VM don't appear to be in negotiations regarding this channel.

Been following a conversation on Twitter between a Virgin Media customer and Premier Sports.

Virgin Customer: "absolutely over the moon about this. We have the xl package so will we have to pay for it next year?"

Premier Sports: "at some point yes."

Virgin Customer: "any idea how much it will be?"

Premier Sports: "probably same as SKY. £9.99 p/m"

And in reply to SKY customers kicking up a fuss about being free on Virgin Media:

Premier Sports: "we were free for 3-4 months on SKY back in 2010."

It seems those good old Sky customers have short memory's then.

£9.99 is just absolutely a rip off because in my mind a more reasonable price would be around £4.99 per month.

I suppose it comes down to what you enjoy.

I pay £10.00 per month for Boxnation because I love boxing. I can understand why others would think £10.00 per month for a non-HD channel dedicated to boxing is a rip off.

For some Premier Sports coverage of Nascar and NHL is worth £9.99 per month.

The picture quality on SKY isn't great either.

I've often found that some of these stand alone "premium channels" like MUTV, Boxnation and even SKY Box Office fail to deliver on picture quality. It's a shambles really when you think you're paying a premium price to watch. SKY Box Office used to really bug me. £14.99 to watch a PPV boxing event which at times would become terribly blocky and jerky.

Apparently the guys at Premier Sports love feedback. You can tell them how disappointing their picture quality is via this e-mail:

Yes you are right Chad as it depends how much someone really wants to subscribe to a channel because at the end of the day its their money and compared to tobacco and alcohol and many other things it certainly represents better value.
