Really? After all the postings saying that BT sport was rubbish, didn't have games anyone wanted to watch, you think they will decide it is now the best thing since sliced bread?

Nope, can't see that happening.

You could argue if there was a viable choice (ie a price), people would drop the BT sport, for sky. But I would be very surprised it happening the other way

Don't forget sky has 116 premier league games, English international and domestic cricket, champions league etc... Bt sport isn't a viable alternative yet.

Cheers Chad. That is a great comparison. The only things Sky have now are HD and Atlantic, which to be fair, are what many people want currently.

You are spot on with your comments with regards to the BB and BT sport value with VM. I also think that TIVO is very good value at a fiver a month, esp. (as you say) if anyone was to consider the possible savings from extra broadband costs.

In regards to TV Anywhere/Sky go (my knowledge is poor), I do believe VM still have more channels you can watch live too? I know BT Sports is a bonus for TV Anywhere at the very least!! I also believe there is some form of optional charge for Sky Go with regards downloads but not from VM. Another point of difference is that you can watch your recordings on TV Anywhere, but I have not seen that advertised by Sky (happy to be corrected on all these points though).

Lets hope VM do get Sky Atlantic next month, and I have no reason to doubt Howard's statement given he was right about BT sport. I will be fascinated to see what Sky do next (other than offer a cheaper price for their packages)!

Cheers Harry but please remember I only say they are planned and from the info I was given sky Atlantic is planned for autumn, bomberaf has recently confirmed this and as gone as far to say sept and a date.i suspect like bt sports the deal is sorted and its just waiting for a launch day(but I could be wrong) in regards tv anywhere as far as I am aware you can not watch recorded program's with it think it as been talked about but I suspect we will see on demand streaming first;)

You are indeed correct about recordings. Thanks for correcting me, I clearly misremembered the blurb about TV anywhere when it came out.:o:

I have just downloaded the TV Anywhere app and fear I may be being corrected a lot on my TV Anywhere/Sky go points.:o:

I don't know why everyone is getting so excited about possibly getting Sky Atlantic..Because there was a time we were missing Sky 1 only for us to get it back but Sky to go ahead and set up Atlantic instead and put their new super super shows on that..;)

Now would they do that to us again? ;)

Don't forget SKY Sports is due for a £3.25 (or £3.75) price increase on VM come October which will then make it £36.00 a month including HD compared with about £27.25 on SKY.

In order to keep people subscribing to SKY Sports on VM, I wouldn't be surprised to see SKY drop the premium HD charge in the coming months as otherwise people are just going to drop it and SKY need the subscribers and advertising revenue to fight back against BT Sports.

Pray tell Den. Am i wrong?

If it doesn't suit you..it is sour..but if it does suit your purposes, it is manna from heaven.

Interesting take on the world, where truth to you is only what your limited view sees. Next you will be telling me that Liverpool really won every league, as you don't recognise any team that places above Liverpool.

Better watch, they tend to use strait jackets for that sort of behaviour :D

I think they were only a minor amount of posters on here who were not bothered by BT Sports. I also don't recall saying people will now think it is the best thing since slice bread. Please do not put words in my mouth, esp. words that are far removed from my original post. I was simply thinking a saving of around £30 a month (depending on SD/HD package) for football fans who do not care for many other sports could be a viable option in this current climate.

You are probably right, I also doubt there will be a lot people who will drop SS.

It would just be interesting to me to see if any customers do have similar thoughts and drop SS.

I will try and be clearer in my future posts!:)

Maybe the price increase is to pay for including the HD variants? Or maybe that's wishful thinking on my part :)

I can see why that could happen, but I think the last thing Digital Cable in the UK needs right now (or anytime soon) is another rebrand.

NTL >>> NTL-Telewest >>>> VM >>>> UPC?

I'd rather they spend the 'rebranding' cash on improving services - more channels, more content (yeah, I'm a greedy bugger!), maybe even getting more channels working with MRS and perhaps even getting the Android version of TVA out.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some dishes to wash, then, FREE HD EPL FOOTY to watch, MUHAHAHAHA! :D

BenMcr over on VM's own forums say that nothing has been announced on any price rises in October.

I heard you and Rupert are drinking buddies? What was your share options this year? Did you get the million pound pay out from the shares? Go to ruperts Australian French imported mansion?

No you're a customer. We're customers of another tv provider. We pay money and someone flicks a switch giving us moving images. Unless you are getting money paid to you based on skys success there is no need for this

Are you on drugs? (I mean the recreational ones, not any of the ones you may normally take for your condition).

I said that the vitriolic comments about BT sports (that some were making) made the proposition about dropping sky sports as unlikely.

You might consider reading a post before commenting. It will help you lots.

I am sure you are correct and people would not want to pay extra.

The part of my post you quoted was me saying that Sky's only plus points against VM (in my eyes) are the extra HD channels and Sky Atlantic, which a number of people would seemingly prefer to have as part of their package.

Customers who do pay for BT Sport though, have decided they can afford to, or have decided they can not be without it and may or may not have made sacrifices in their finances elsewhere to fund BT Sports.

We are pretty much as you where with pricing , VM is cheapest however BT Sport can be added to Sky in a few ways to get you pretty close to VM's pricing.

BT Infinity with free BT Sport is £23 , Sky Entertainment Extra + is £32 and BT Line rental can be had for £11.75 totalling £66.75

Sky BB unlimited is £7.50 , Sky Entertainment Extra + £32 plus line rental of £14.50 , BT Sport £15 totalling £69.

Its also worth noting for those taking Sky Sports that VM charges £25.75 were Sky charge £22 , the premium HD charge on VM is £7 compared to £5.25 on Sky and Sky includes all Sports channels in HD. Sky's prices above are the increased ones from September 13 so VM could potentially increase the Sky Sports sub costs.

As always said it depends on your requirements as too which is the best for you.

Better STB, better bb, no dealings with BT, free repairs, better customer service, more reliable picture quality, more channels on TV Anywhere, one bill each month. I could go on but I will stop there.

I guess Sky have a channel I don't really care about or want and HD variants I can continue to live without though. You will also get lots of attention from BT too:)

Better broadband? No. I have had Virgin, sky and BT.

For gaming, Virgin places last. (sky 2nd, BT 1st)

Never ever paid for a repair with Sky.

I have a 2tb box, works fantastic..can't fill it (and not sure i would want to)

Hard to argue with TV anywhere, as the other two don't have that. So seems stupid for you to say. But we do have Sky Go. We do have On demand.

Picture quality is fantastic on all the HD channels.

So please do go on..as you are scoring nil so far :D

Better STB - Only in some ways, Sky STB is better in other ways. Sky are improves improving there STB and surely will get better over time ;)
Better BB - Agree
No Dealings with BT - Doesnt bother me who i deal with
Free repairs - I agree
Better Customer Service - Disagree. Sky are now setting up a new Customer Service program and it is alot better, trust me ;) watch this space
TV Anywhere channels - I agree but at least we have Sports and Movies on the go via mobile and tablets unlike TV Anywhere
More Reliable PQ - Disagree as Sky is great and only small issues with weather, massive issues = installation fault
One Bill each month - Agian doesnt bother me

That lonely comment I made about you when your other friends come over to VM really hurt you, didn't it? I am so truly sorry. I didn't mean to upset you in any way. But don't worry, you'll soon find other little friends to play with, I'm sure.

No. Not soon. But if there was just the faintest whiff of netflix on the medium term horizon I'd be absolutely delighted. Virgin have done well to increase their hd offering, but at the same time their on demand library has suffered. Now is the time to concentrate on content.

AFAIK, Netflix have never done a deal where it is bundled in a cable providers package. That could be ground breaking or a hurdle.

Will take your word for that, I have not tried on-line gaming.

Never ever paid for a repair with Sky.

In which case you are very lucky. Do you pay a monthly fee for free repairs like my brother does?

Cheers nstokes, a much more reasoned and mature reply. Although I note you are saying Sky are improving their Customer Service Program which leads me to think their service continued to be poor after I dealt with them.

Sky told me my installation and dish were correct, when I had awful picture issues. Perhaps I had a poor engineer come out to me. Not sure about the issues my parents have though.

BIB As did I. You felt the need to question why I thought VM were better than Sky, and then took offence and responded rather childishly to my responses:rolleyes:.

If I have issues with Sky, why are my loyalties misplaced?????

I have stated many, many times that VM offer me the best package. Even if I was allowed a sky dish, VM would still offer the best package for me.

IF there is poor picture and sound quality, go to Sky One and check the signal.

I had this crap from Sky, and insisted that a different engineer came out to check it. He came and said that the signal was not aligned properly.

IF Sky sent a private contractor out, they will do anything to get a quick instal as they know they will get paid for the second visit which will take about five minutes to put right. The problem l had was disagnoed by a private contractor who called twice - it was only when l said it was under warranty that he fixed it properly.

Check the bubble on the LNB.

It seems surprising that you hear posters say their picture is poor, and sit and do nothing.

I would have thought you would complain, and get it fixed.

IMO, Sky was always the better offer, however we have 2 MultiRoom boxes and 2x£6.50 is better than 2x£11(I believe that's what it is after the increase).

Since VM now have BT, TV Anywhere, 120mb broadband, possibly Atlantic and SS 3/4/F1 HD, I would need sky to really show me something amazing to make me switch.

Until last week I saw Sky has the market leader, but I just think they are both on par at the moment (BT a little behind, but I think they will be better as a broadcaster than a platform provider)

I'm well aware what your on about ;) I agree Sky have always dealt with my issues in a professional manner and the calls been dealt with in the UK rather than those awful off shore call centres.

Thought I was on the wrong forum, isn't this a coming soon thread ? Not who is better than who.
Surely it's down to personal choice --
1.who gives you best value for money
2.what is available we're you live
3.what gives you the best for your personal needs ie broadband,TV or even phone

I have had products from all 3 (bt,sky and vm)
Personally if bt give it me for free I wouldn't have it
Sky hate the thought of the Murdoch's having any part of my money
Seriously thou at this current moment with price and what is available vm serve me best, should this change then the only option to me would be sky

Sky hate the thought of the Murdoch's having any part of my money
Seriously thou at this current moment with price and what is available vm serve me best, should this change then the only option to me would be sky

Spot on Howard but some just can't help themselves bud.

I cant explain your other issues as not had any issues with my dish or installation since my first install which was fixed and i got credit back as well

I firmly believe Sky are improving their customer service, lets hope VM take notice and up their game too:)
