Thanks for info.

DS Posters 'Jimbo' thinks Sky Movies Classic may close

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...2&postcount=19

So I think any Sky Movies channel will become Sky Movies Disney and Sky Movies will also renumber the Sky Movies EPG Channel lineup.

But Denphone, there is no problem with exclusive channels if the content is not exclusive. Provided that other channels can also pick up that content at the appropriate price, there is no problem.

The issue with Sky Atlantic relates to exclusive deals with the likes of HBO, which means that no-one else can access those programmes, coupled with the fact that they won't let other operators have access to Sky Atlantic at a reasonable price.

Hey, even if it only means that annoying on screen logo disappears, and they bother to show the credits in full screen, so you can see who voiced characters, then it's worth it ;)

I've been with Virgin Media / NTL for over 10 years.

Surely this is a clear case of a movie channel being added to the current suite, it's not an individual premium channel.

Having said that, nothing Sky has ever done has really surprised, or shocked me for that matter.

I think there will be more emphasis on movies with the new Disney channel - hence the rename and relaunch.

Just to make a point, After the 12ths warranty for the Sky equipment, it will only cost approx £6.00 per month to cover the boxes and dish.

Yes, VM is Free for serving BUT, the boxes you get could get are refurbished.

In August of last year, VM and Sky were in talks of having Atlantic, it was offered at a price that Sky said was reasonable.

VM said it was turned down on the grounds that it was unreasonable.

The only link was that it was a meeting of the two companies regarding new contracts.

There's a big difference between what Sky considers to be reasonable and what is actually reasonable.

Sky could offer it to VM at a hundred pounds per customer per week and claim that they thought it was a reasonable price. That claim wouldn't mean it was actually reasonable...

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

*Update* - Found this article:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011...a-sky-atlantic

I can't recall where, but I'm sure I read somewhere too that Sky did offer Sky Atlantic to VM for a price, which VM refused. It could be they were looking for a premium channel price, as opposed to a bundled price.

Personally I would be happy to pay a pound or two more per month for the remaining channels Sky has to offer, but I wouldn't pay any more than that and I certainly won't jump ship to get them.

Sky & VM - sort it out!

everyone knows sky set price high knowing VM would not pay it so they could keep it for themselves and tell us Arthur if it was reasonable why no one but sky got it

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

SKY would say it was reasonable but to them asking Virgin to pay over the odds so they have to ask customers to pay more is not reasonable.

Sky used to think the resale price of their sports channels was reasonable. If it was OFCOM would never have seen fit to intervene.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

I cannot see any reasnable argument why VM cannot have Atlantic on the system, The only reason is that VM will not cave into the amount of customers who want it.

I personally believe that IF VM gave customers ceratin channels that they are after, then the entire argument would be solved.

VM need to introduce more channels to quiten the customers who believe they are asecond rate company.

There are many channels on other companies that VM dont have.

The only way I'd want Sky Atlantic is if it didn't cost me a penny more

Sky should offer it as a premium channel on VM, but I suspect that the cost and the low number of subscribers would be an insult to Sky and they know it

Now let me see; A second rate company that has the best PVR and the fastest broadband.

Something doesn't add up in your statement, unless the relatively few extra TV channels that Sky has is your only criteria?

Who do you have your phone and Broadband with Arthur?

Oh I'd love to see that defence in a court. "Yes m'lord he made me bully him because he voiced his opinion".

An opinion does not need to be fact, although I note others have referenced articles in support of the posts.

Personally I don't care who is right or wrong, fact or fiction, just stop the tone, it's unfair and uncalled for. If you feel you must belittle people due to your better education or knowledge or opinion, then maybe it's time you had a break from the topic.

Nothing wrong with the tone imo, and no one is bullying either, we are entitled to reply to any comments made on here, especially ones with no real foundation, as long as people aren't being abusive then they should be able to respond to other posters, if we all took your stance there wouldn't be any debating.

I would not agree that VM should just take every channel at whatever inflated price the supplier wishes to charge. They have to pass on these costs to the customer.

VM are probably well aware that they would lose far more customers to Sky by imposing massive price increases on their customers than they do from not carrying these overpriced channels.

For the record Arthur .
I have no wish to "get" Atlantic if it is ever put on at NO cost so be it or as a stand alone channel fine/

Equally I have no wish to get BT sports channels in any shape or form.

Perhaps I am the only Virgin user that feels this way, but I am not looking to get ANY more channels. Be that +1 , HD or Cross eye. If they come I will look at them & then decide if it was of any interest. Some how I doubt it would be.
Unless it sucked shows I like from other channels:D

I feel exactly the same, I know that a lot of customer's want certain channels but VM have to look at what is best for their overall customer base. I couldn't care less if I've got Sky Atlantic or not and sport doesn't interest me in the slightest. Yes it is nice when we do get new channels but I wouldn't want my subscription to go up in price just to get one channel that Sky have got. Also if VM pay top price to Sky, that gives Sky more cash to go out and buy more exclusive deals to withhold.

C21 Media: BT to buy ESPN’s UK and Ireland biz

UK telecoms company BT Group has confirmed that it’s to acquire ESPN’s UK and Ireland TV channels business, including ESPN and ESPN America.

The deal sees BT take on ESPN’s live sports rights package in the UK and Ireland, which includes live football matches from the FA Cup, Scottish Premier League, UEFA Europa League and German Bundesliga.

BT will take over the rights from July 31 this year and will continue to operate at least one ESPN-branded channel as part of its BT Sport package, which will launch in the summer.

Separately, ESPN has announced that it will wind down the operation of its ESPN Classic channel throughout the EMEA region, and the ESPN America business outside the UK.

Wow they certainly are , we should count ourselves lucky that we will at least have the opportunity to watch. I assume that this will allow BT to bid for NFL and NHL rights in the future as this was always a problem in this Country as we shared a feed with Scandinavia.

I am very happy with what is already available at the moment, Universal HD would be a bonus.
I also have no wish to get BT Sports or Atlantic as there is very little on that channel that I might watch.

I really hope that they run the channel the same way it currently works, using the full US broadcasts instead of UK-based studio segments like Sky Sports do. That's always been one of the things I liked about NASN/ESPNA.

Not unreasonable at all, the foreign operations are small compared to their home market. It is understandable that they would wish to make an exit as they become less profitable.

Some of the news reports say that the ESPN branded channel will operate under the BT Sport umbrella, so it would seem unlikely that it would be sold separately. They will, most likely, keep the ESPN name for North American content.

The reports of the numbering of the channels are v odd. Some suggest that ESPN UK is to be the third channel and others that ESPN America is to be the third. Others even saying BT will now own 4 sports channels.

Think will wait for an official announcement!

It looks like virgin media/liberty global will have to pull their fingers out to offer something to replace the ESPN in the XL Package or a lot of customers (me included) will not be happy, especially after the February price rise.

To be honest the way channels keep getting migrated to the lower packages and now with the loss of ESPN the XL package is looking less and less worth keeping as the L package will be a out on par but for a few HD channels and +1 channels once ESPN leaves.

I'd ditch the XL package, but watch too much on FOX to follow through with it. One thing I want most coming to Virgin, that is someone at CS who knows what they are doing. Called them last week to remove the movies and also the HD movies/sports as well.

They then said you can have the movies and sports half price for 3 months so agreed to it. Find out an hour later sports and movies removed. Phone call says it the half price offer kicks in after 24 hours, they cannot force it to start earlier. So after 24 hours, still nothing. They force it through but only got sports back. Phone call this morning was a waste of time. They promised to call back but didn't. So now I waste more time tomorrow sorting it out.

So yes, decent Customer Service from Virgin would be a plus at the moment. Last 5 days have made me go off Virgin a bit.

My mother in law is on the L pack and it pretty much contains the channels that I watch so it is getting to a point where I am even thinking of downgrading. Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

I have to beg forgiveness from everyone on this forum, I always said that VM were a second rate rate company and treated customers as if they didn't exist.

Well, l recently gave up VM and went over to Sky, it was installed on Saturday, well talk about rip off merchants.

We were being charged for the full package including Sports and were going to be charged £60.00 for the lot.

My god how wrong we were, We should have had new dish and cable plus new boxes. The engineer told us that we would have to wait three days for anytime Tv to come on and also the broadband.

The engineer arrived, and No free dish as we had one on the wall, no cable, as it was already there, and the boxes were secondhand.

We called Sunday to see how much longer to wait for everything - this was the bombshell.

We were told it would cost us £21.00 to have BB connected, and we would have to buy two routers costing £15.00 each, and we would have to subscribe to BT Open reach for the BB also at £15.00 per month.

When my wife complained to Sky, she was advised that we were tied to an 18 months but would offer us discounts to stay. We were also told that the engineer HAD installed new dish and cable, So the delightful thing was we contacted VM, and they were very helpful (which is unusual) we are now back to normal - with VM

I would suggest to anyone, if you plan to go to Sky - DON'T. ( I am sure there are people out there who will say - is this Arthur talking, yes it is, and l don't like being ripped off.

Sky even told us that the dish was there's, well it isn't as we bought it 5 years ago.

Welcome back to the fold, Arthur. It's better on this side of the fence.

Just a little confused why you wanted another dish and cable when you already had them in place, but I think you made the right decision to come back to VM. Quite a few of us have worked out it's not worth going over to the dark side just for Sky Atlantic and oodles of cheap and nasty channels you would never watch whilst fully conscious.

£181? Have you bought Virgin Media in a partnership with Liberty? Presumably, that must include rather a lot of telephone calls to premium lines!!?

I don't know of any package that comes to that kind of money.

Although very likely, as Doug says, you never know. Maybe that is what the recent price increase was all about.

I don't know of any package that comes to that kind of money.

You'd be able to get there with the VIP Collection with 6 TiVo boxes, and a couple of extra phone lines!

I guess if you rent a lot of Movies you can get a bill for £181 - but that would really hurt to pay that much! Poor Blockbusters :( you could have saved them..... (only if it is films that has bought your costs up obviously)

Well I got Sky Tv in last week on a 50% off code, new box installed and new dish and cable, now have all my sky sports in HD ( important to me), the box is quick but not as good all round as TiVo ( which I still have in another room), the series links are hopeless ( it schedules programme clashes BTW, that's good init?)
There's only about 250gb for personal recording the rest is for on demand.

One thing coming soon to Virgin: A stinking letter of complaint from me about the CS. Hope new owners sort it out, last 5 days have been the worst with Virgin. Told one thing Friday, told another today.

I must say Arthur, you really did have a bit of bad luck there. In my experience of Sky, I must admit I was never treated anywhere near that badly. As a new customer, I got all my discounts and new, free equipment. I am not entirely sure why they would treat a new customer like that. Perhaps you just got a mis-informed CS rep.

The 250GB personal space still provides the same HD recording capacity (60hrs) as the TIVO 500GB as it uses mpeg 4 , I agree with you about the schedule management the Sky box needs it , as a workaround I schedule all my recordings via the Sky+ app on ipad as this automatically alerts you too clashes and provides an alternative airing. Clash management has been suggested many times in the beta forum as has an improved search function (TIVOs is excellent) however rest assured there are a couple of new things due in the not too distant future ;) and 4oD should be added real soon completing the catchup section.

Coming Soon to Virgin Media Vol 2 (2013) will launch on Cable Forum on April 1st 2013.

The following is an Joke I was told on Sunday.

''In the bid for more viewers UKTV are set to close GOLD and put all the shows into WATCH and rebrand WATCH as Gold Watch.''

well it looks like bye bye to ESPN America  If BT sports isn't included as part of the XL package there is NO WAY I can afford to pay extra. VM already gets in excess off £100pm from me on the VIP package and as much as I'll miss my college football I have reached my limit :(

No BT deal has been signed with Virgin Media - yet. But it looking unlikely that BT Sport Package will be free on the XL Package.

I for one will not be paying BT Sports any money the SPL games - I only watch ESPN when Motherwell, Celtic or Rangers games are on.

Ditto. Already looking at how to cut our costs - it's a ridiculous amount of money for TV...

Look out for the half price movies and sports offer. Need to have sports and movies off for 30 days before you can have the half price offer, which ends Thursday.

Then l think the signs for BT Sports at even this early stage are rather ominous as people are already paying enough for their premium Sky Sports packages.

The Sky + app does help when you're at home but it doesnt work away from home, (Tivo's does):td:
