Quick, fetch a doctor. I agree with Arthur. Unless he is a total racist thug, no-one would be stupid enough to make racist comments with a mircophone active. There are 3 witnesses to this so called racism, so if they say there wasn't then Chelsea haven't got a leg to stand on.

He probably told them to shut up after being berated by them constantly and they are claiming racism.

Chelsea's favourite tactic to surround the ref and berate him.

I have seen Man Utd do that often, at one time i thought the ref wore a red shirt, he was surrounded so often :P

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

The biggest trouble with Chelsea, they always think they can get away with it.

I feel for Clattenberg, l don't think any ref is safe at Man Utd or Chelsea, The aggro is that Torres has made a name for himself to be a diver, l have seen the tackle and ok he was clipped but talk about an Oscar winning dive, he should have had one for that. I think Hazard is being trained by Torres as he has done it as well.
A major problem is that referee's have got to be much tougher with players who go into the box, and dive and to me it should be a straight red for cheating.

This problem goesd on in lower league stuff, l did a game when l was running behind two players and the player on my left went down in the box, and there must have been a foot space, he claimed he was tripped and argued rotten until his manager told him, l was behind him - l booked him for ungentleman conduct.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

why do refs get suspended but players are able to carry on playing after such accusations, shouldnt it work both ways. may be that way they the footballing officials can kick a fair amount of crap out the game as well stamping authority.

MalteseFalcon 30-10-2012 19:11

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Apparently police and FA have asked to interview some Man United players about these comments. A few thoughts.

1. Would a referee be so stupid to make comments like he is being accused of with a mircrophone active for the Fourth official AND both linesmen to hear every word?
2. If Clattenburg is racist, why has no black or foreign player made a complaint about it until after this particular game?
3. Is his reputation finished, even if the claims are found to be false? I mean, what's to stop a black or foreign player in future matches to say 'he called me racist names' when their team has a bad match?
4. Will Chelsea be punished if they are found to be false claims? I would hope so, because if innocent it is a shocking thing to make up and I would hope Chelsea suffered a huge points and financial penalty.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

It has been stated in a national newspaper - and no it wasn't The Sun, that Chelsea officials and players went into Clattenburg dressing room and threatened to break his legs after the game.

As stated earlier WHY would a referee be so stupid to say something stupid, with an open mike- it beggars belief. And also, why is it always Chelsea that have problems with referee's.

It also sounds strange how the PFA and the Black Footballers association get onto the bang wagon about all this, the players carried on playing until the end of the game, before complaining about what IF Clattenburg has said. There are FA officials plus extra officials in the ground during matches so WHY wasn't nothing said then.

Fergie and the Chelsea manager argued on the touchline, still again why didn't the players say anything.
,
Guarantee you that the Chelsea players have made up some story of what happened as everything depends on WHAT HAS BEEN SAID ON THE LIVE MIC and no one can change that and don't forget the TWO linesman that had open mics also.

On your reasoning, the refs could make up whatever story they like, similar to your accusation against the chelsea players.

The open mic is only used by the refs.

And not unheard of a ref cheating.

Interesting speculation, but that is all it is. i won't hold you to the guarantee, despite it being impossible to prove.

They risk being kicked out by Usmanov too. People are naive in assuming Usmanov is the solution to all our problems. His public statements are untrustworthy and show a greater desire to harm the club in his quest to own it. His past is shady and his record as an owner of sports teams small.

im not saying hes the full on answer. the fans and supporters trusts are but the trusts wont do anything incase they get thrown out. fans havent got leaders that is the trusts. Arsenal will replace the board before being thrown out but pressure is needed. every year the frustration mounts but not enough is vented.

Good game for the neutrals with the amount of goals scored, but I don't think any Arsenal fan will be happy with that result. OK, they won but really shouldn't have gone 4 goals down. Just shows that the kids Arsene is bringing through aren't really good enough.

Saying that, I do hope that they can improve. Martinez could be a decent goalie if he learnt from someone like Seaman or Lehman, not looked to Almunia or Mannone for inspiration.

Two points to make, The Clattenburg affair. I am NOT a Chelsea fan as to me they are spoilt little brats that if someone took there dummies away they would cry wolf, and to me they allow there players get away with murder ie the Terry affair, he is still there captain, which he should not be and they have not even punished him.

Chelsea have a very poor record against referee's and have been fined many times at there treatment of them ie Graham Poll for prime example. They get TWO players sent off and this is what happens, some guys career is on the line, as he is supposed to have said something against a player - we don't know what was said BUT on Sky, they got a lip reader to read WHAT Clattenburg had said, and he stated 'there was nothing there that was defamatory against anyone'. As this is a very serious matter NOTHING has been heard of what Clattenburg has said. This will go on for months which is ridiculous.

On the Reading game - l thought it was brilliant game but Kozelski for Arsenal should have been SENT off for two bookable offences, he got booked and then the ref allowed two nasty tackles to go unpunished. And Wenger, my god does he moan.

Great article from The Times. http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/...83ccdc3e6ea15b

If you can get behind the paywall, sometimes the blogs are free, it's worth a read.

Quote:

Despite posting annual profits, Arsenal’s financial position is just as precarious as their status among England’s elite clubs, the continuation of which must be viewed as a significant over-performance given the restrictions under which they must operate.

And for that Arsenal fans have just one man to thank - Arsene Wenger - once they have stopped grumbling about their side’s inexorable decline, that is.

Without a sugar daddy willing to fund them. Arsenal are the Newcastle United of north London - blessed with a magnificent stadium and a large and loyal fan-base, but reliant upon superior scouting and player development to compete in the transfer market.

The away fans are pretty good. I saw most people have said the seats where full again on the resumption of half time. It's just people leaving 5 or so minutes early to get ahead of the queues for the bar/toilet like they do in every single game.

Of course it would Dave but some supporters or footballers only mirror the the same attitudes amongst certain parts of the public.

I have to say, when I've gone to watch Chelsea play, I do look around me and think that sometimes the only reason I'm not racially abused by the home fans is because of the Chelsea shirt I am wearing at the time. Footballs fans are so tribal. They could be abusing an opposing fan because of the nature of his or her colour, totally oblivious that they themselves are surround by black/asian/non white fans!

MalteseFalcon 01-11-2012 16:22

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

And Chelsea have the nerve to complain about a referee racially abusing one of their players? Disgusting. Hopefully they will take action against this fan, but they will probably say it was a United fan in the Chelsea end. Chelsea, like Liverpool, are always the victims never the perpetrators.

On rolls the bandwagon.

I remember that time when a black player pulled them level in a champions league final and scored the winning penalty.

Wenger hits out at Chelsea for Clattenburg allegations and asks... where's your proof?

Arsene Wenger has criticised Chelsea for making a public complaint about referee Mark Clattenburg and said the allegations have ‘little proof’.

Wenger said: ‘I believe one of the best things in sport is it’s a battle when it is on. You can sort out the problems you had, especially in England, internally. If it comes to making the lawyers rich I’m not a fan of it. One of the great things in sports as well is tolerance, forgiveness and explanation internally and I think it should stay like that. It can happen that a referee doesn't behave well, I do not say they are angels, but it is always better to sort it out in the room. I didn’t follow the whole (Chelsea) story completely (but) my opinion is just when I didn’t behave well I have an explanation with the referee at the end of the game or another day, rather than going public with little proof. I’m not in favour of making these things public.’

Sir Alex Ferguson doubts Chelsea's Mark Clattenburg claims

Sir Alex Ferguson does not believe referee Mark Clattenburg used "inappropriate language" towards Chelsea player John Mikel Obi.

"I don't believe he would make comments like that," said Ferguson. "I refuse to believe it. It's unthinkable."

Clattenburg maintains his innocence and neither of his assistants, nor the fourth official, support Chelsea's allegations. Ferguson, speaking ahead of United's Premier League home game against Arsenal, added: "There is not a referee who would stoop to that. I'm convinced by that. I've never had a player come to me in the last 15 years and say a referee swore in a game - ever. The way we see the game today rather than how it was 25 years ago, it has completely changed. I played myself and I know that the banter which went on between referees and players 25 years ago is different to today."

Di Matteo hits back at Ferguson and Wenger for commenting on Clattenburg race case

Roberto Di Matteo has said criticism from Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger over the Mark Clattenburg case will be taken on board to by his Chelsea players but only used as a 'motivational tool'. The Blues boss refused to be drawn on the issue in any depth, citing the matter was in the hands of the police and FA. But responding to the Manchester United manager's comments questioning the credibility of the claims he said: 'He likes to talk about other clubs. We tend not to. I'll leave it up to him. It's a free country where everybody has the freedom of speech. We'll take into consideration what other people say and use it as a motivational tool for ourselves.'

Di Matteo added of Ferguson's scepticism: 'The investigation will qualify this. We don't want to prejudice any trial.' Asked if he feared referees might treat the club differently after making the accusations against Clattenburg, the Italian said: 'I really hope not. I believe that they won't. We have faith in the referees. They are people that are under a lot of pressure. They are human beings like everyone else. You have to try your best and sometimes mistakes can happen.'

Di Matteo maintained his stance of silence when asked about the Chelsea fan caught making a 'monkey' gesture during Wednesday's Capital One Cup tie but did suggest the manner in which racist incidents have been highlighted proved there was still work to be done. 'I always said that we are against any form of discrimination,' he said. 'We will support anyone who is fighting that. That's our position and my personal belief as well. The fact that these incidents are happening give a lot of media exposure and makes people aware that we have to fight maybe a little more strongly than perhaps we thought. Everyone has to be involved in this process to eradicate it from the sport and life in general.'

Theo Walcott: Arsenal want talks 'resolved by Christmas'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has set a Christmas deadline for the club to agree a new deal with Theo Walcott. The 23-year-old forward's current deal ends next summer and he would be free to talk to other clubs from January. Wenger said: "There is urgency. We want to sort it out before Christmas, one way or the other." Asked if Arsenal would have to sell Walcott if no agreement was reached by 2013, Wenger said: "I would not like to."

Walcott rejected a five-year, £75,000-a-week offer in August, saying he wanted to switch from the wing to centre-forward.

£100k a week to Kop Walcott

LIVERPOOL want to sign Arsenal’s Theo Walcott in January. Kop boss Brendan Rodgers is willing to pay the England star £100,000-a-week AND play him in the central striking role he prefers. Liverpool reckon they could land Walcott for just £8million as the unsettled 23-year-old is out of contract next summer.
But Rodgers needs Walcott to resist growing Arsenal pressure to sign a new deal before Christmas. An Anfield source said: “Theo Walcott and Liverpool would be a perfect fit. It’s no secret we are looking for a striker to play with Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini. Theo ticks all the right boxes. He is young, he is fast and he has great skills.”

Arsene Wenger yesterday slapped a Christmas deadline on talks with Walcott.
The Arsenal boss said: “There is urgency. We want to sort it out before Christmas, one way or the other.”

So far, though, Arsenal have offered Walcott £75,000-a- week — significantly less than Liverpool have on the table. Rodgers is also desperate to get Joe Cole’s £120,000-a- week wages off the payroll and will look to sell Jose Enrique and Stewart Downing.

Exclusive - Nicol: Liverpool don't need Walcott

Steve Nicol believes Liverpool should turn their attentions away from Theo Walcott and onto a proven goalscorer. The Reds are set to make a move for the England winger when the January transfer window opens, in a bid to strengthen their attacking department, where Luis Suarez remains their only fit recognisable striker. But former Anfield favourite Nicol claims Brendan Rodgers needs someone more consistent in front of goal. “Liverpool need players who are proven and Theo Walcott’s not proven,” he told the Sports Bar. “He’s too inconsistent. What they don’t need now is another inconsistent player. They need someone who every match you know exactly what you’re going to get. They need someone who’s going to get you goals and be consistent every game and that’s not something you can say about Theo, as great as he is.”

hmm.. the BBC say he wants to play upfront which is holding up the deal but well placed sources say its the 100k. may be he wants both
