But as you stated, it also includes 50Mb BB, which you will never (at this time) get on Sky....

Well I had a chat with customer relations and I'm wondering if mediaboy can shine any light on this. As we know the price changes and also changes for sky hd from per box to per account on Oct 1st. Could this be the date for launching sky anytime +. Virgin said they can confirm sky movies and sports defo but not able to use sky go

I have seen any dates on when Sky Anytime will launch on Virgin Media. When I get any new news I will post it here.

I am a customer, not an employee.

Neither am I blind to some of the issues that VM have, and I (every couple of years) compare providers to ensure I am getting the best deal for what I want - I assume others do the same.

If you check my posts, I (to the best of my knowledge) rarely attack Sky - I may point out that others are putting forward propositions without supporting evidence, or repeatedly (imho) whinging (which I never understand - if I was that unhappy, I would be out of there...).

I also (but may lapse occasionally) rarely state absolutes - Sky don't do 50Mb BB at this time, but who knows in the future (which is why I put "at this time"); but we are talking about now, aren't we? (as everyone does when they compare the Sky TV offerings versus VM offerings....;)).

The same as I do and all the others should do. But it has been pointed out before that so many people that have services (any elec, gas or tv) have not thought of switching:confused:

Since I joined this forum you have been a beacon of impartiality over all providers:D

Dear Martin

Thanks you for your mail which Neil has asked me to answer on his behalf.
Your email comes at a great time as Virgin Media has just completed agreements to launch the new HD channels from UKTV . I'm really pleased to say that we'll be adding them to our HD channel line-up as soon as we possibly can. - We're still in discussion with UKTV about the precise technical details re timing, but our aspiration is to launch at the same time as Sky or as soon as possible after.

Kind regards
Peter

All we ever hear is VM are in 'talks' of new channels coming, they have so many talks, do they ever come out of the boardroom or the local cafe.

In the City of London, they normally have talks down the pub, by closing time the deal is done, with VM the doors are locked, come on VM move your butt.

All the basic sky HD channels were part of the deal, so vm does have access to them if it wants them. The fact they have not appeared means vm doesn't want to pay for them at the moment. The same goes for pretty much all other channels except Sky Atlantic and the missing Sky HD sports and film channels.

It's good to talk, as BT's adverts used to say, but money speaks louder than words. If vm want whatever channel on their platform, they have to pay for it. That's the reason, the only reason, why channels are missing.

I cannot never understand why VM won't put on more channels, as in the end its US that pays for them.

And if VM are worried about customers going to rivals, l cannot see that when l read comments on this forum - it should be our choice.

Not everyone likes that sort of confrontation though, with VM it's easy, they fix it/replace it for free, no bother :)

Yer they were bad for that,Customer services as improved since then. When i cancelled got a half price 12 months deal,When i rung to cancel got another 6 months. When that runs out in nov will ring again,It looking like come march will move over to them altogether.Tivo is great but vm`s stance on getting channels on the cheap meaning no investment in new channels is reluctently gonna lose me.

to Sky, yeah I guess it is... the thing is it's actually a little unfair to Sky as they have sold you the equipment (it's yours, not Sky's property) and it's broken down after the 12 months... It's almost blackmail? :erm:

Maybe Sky would be better with VM's model of the customer not owning the equipment?

Yes but for every one customer who threatens to cancel there are another 10 who'll just pay it. My spend with Sky is in excess of 90.00 a month so I can't see a free call out being an issue and if it is , its hello VM :D

When I worked in Customer Service/faults many moons ago for Telewest, I had one guy who wanted Telewest to buy him a new tv (it was old and had finally gone on the blink) or he'd cancel all his T/West services :erm:

I have worked in customer relations/Service's and it is really stupid that some people will do, To get the customer off their backs? Instead of dealing with the problem from the start.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

In regards to the comment about VM and Sky, l have both these systems, so lets compare:

Sky; The boxes you buy, are brand new, and if they break down you get a warranty with them and we pay £10.00 per month and that covers everything if it breaks down, for example if our dish has a problem it would cost £90.00 per visit, you can call them as many times and you only pay ten pounds.

We have multi room and pay £10.00 per box. HD cost £10.00 per month (which we don't pay). We get all the channels available, hassle free, If the system fails, we can repair from our own chair, if it requires an engineer, they normall arrive within 24 hours.

On VM, you don't get a new box, it will be a refurbished box, if there is a problem with the box, it will get repaired within a few days, BUT you will still get a refurb box.
VM decide what channels go on the system, price varies on what you want, HD channels are free, but there are limits, again VM decide what HD channels go on.
CS. is rubbish and sometimes they cannot answer the questions.

The cost is cheap on VM, but in bad weather you can lose some pictures, like today l was watching ESPN, free on VM XL, and all the picture went crackly and then disappeared.

There is a big difference between both the above, but to me you get what you pay for.

Virgin Media ''currently in negotiations'' with Sony TV.

DS Poster ''Southlad'' has got the following back from Neil Berkett and in an email:

Quote:

I emailed Neil Berkett and asked if Sony TV will be joining VM and the reply came back that they are currently in negotiations with Sony to carry the channel
Sorry if you know about this info.

Really crap comparison. VM on occasion give out refurb boxes but 9 times out of 10 this is not the case. I work with Virgin Media and out of 30 boxes in my van 2 are refurbs which I do not use. In regards to the weather with Sky you are more likely to lose picture than with VM and if you are having the ESPN issue you talk about then you should get an engineer to look at that for you. Virgin also come out free of charge to fix any fault and if you are not at home from the 2nd of September there in no charge whereas if you are with sky it £170!!! Having always though that sky was 100 times better as to content I would rather have the catch up on demand any day as it blows sky out the water.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

You may have new boxes now as VM are using new stock give it five years and they will be refurbs. There was a period in 2005 where I went through 4 pace STB in a few months as each time it was swapped out the replacement was even worse the previous one.

Hi, long time listener, first time caller ...

... I had Sky for years, never had a new box, they were all refurbs, and I had to argue with customer services every time they came out unless I was prepared to pay them, which I wasn't. I left after THEY told ME that they were fed up of coming out to me for free - and couldn't accept the argument that this was because they provided sub-standard STB's in the first place. I wish I'd done it years ago - on top of several arguments with customer services, I only got a tenner for the sky+ box that was mine to sell, hardly a compelling argument for ownership.

Apologies to Hugh for keeping this off topic - I won't do it again!

One of the USP of cable is the fact that the picture should not degenerate in bad weather. Perhaps the bad weather affected the VM feed if it is from satellite

If that is all that second hand Sky+ boxes are worth, then I agree that the VM model is better for customers.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

This is why, when l joined Sky, l took out a warranty, The cost of replacing the equipment would have meant a lot of money.

The Sky engineer, who called FOUR times in the same week to fix a fault, in the end he moved the dish, it cost me a £10.00 and that was part of the warranty.

When we broke our remote, we got a new one under the warranty.

It has all changed now with Sky, With VM, there is all this hassle, you will get an engineer, who won't check the problem, just change the box, for a refurb one.

VM have an attitude that change the box and they still get paid for it, with Sky, they have to check everything.

So let me get this straight, it took Sky FOUR visits to fix a problem (that was a wonky install) and then charged you for the privilege and you think that's a good thing? Did you have to take time off work for each visit too?
