Seal Team is a fantastic series and every episode delivers, I love it.

General Maximus 28-02-2020 10:49

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

I don't watch them but this is great news for long running successful series and I wish they would do bulk renewals for other series like so everyone knows what they are doing. NBS has renewed the following series for three seasons each:

Law and Order: SVU for seasons 22, 23 and 24
Chicago Med for seasons 6, 7 and 8
Chicago PD for seasons 8, 9 and 10
Chicago Fire for seasons 9, 10 and 11

The only series I know of getting that sort of treatment recently is Picard and many many years ago SG1. I never understood why didn't do it with GoT and why they don't do it with The Expanse. I think The Expanse is based on a 7 season (maybe 9) story arc.

Paul 28-02-2020 21:38

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

I dont watch any of them either.

It is a guilty pleasure of a show and lucky to have survived this long to be fair.
At least they can tie it up nicely.

Stuart 29-02-2020 10:59

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

It's sad when a show ends, but they can't keep going forever. The good thing with 5-0 is that it always has felt like the camera was an observer dropping in on the character's lives, and while it does have ongoing plotlines, you don't need to have deep knowledge of them to enjoy the show. So, I think with good writing (and the writing in the last couple of seasons has been very good), I think they can end it well. It appears that the writers and producers were told a long time ago, because this last season has wrapped up a few ongoing storylines, and a few episodes have felt like they are getting the characters into a good places to end their own individual stories. Still, it lasted 10 years, with 20-24 episodes a year in a landscape where a lot of high budget action TV shows have lasted two or three seasons, sometimes with 10 episodes a season.

General Maximus 29-02-2020 11:49

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

kudos to them and it reminds me of the good old days of Buffy, Star Trek and Stargate. 10 years is a good run and I love "full" seasons of 20-24 episodes. With GoT, Expanse and now Picard, it feels like you are just getting into it and then it is over.

There have been very few of these in 5-0, I cant think of any off-hand.

Just looking at its viewing figures, they have kept pretty steady at around 10 - 11 million for the entire 10 years, not many shows have managed that.

Sometimes. I think a lot of the episodes to do with military service are filler, but they are only a handful out of 240 episodes..

Lucifer is close to a 6th season, the show runners have signed up, its down to whether they can sign Tom Ellis up for it. The feeling is positive, he seems to like his role, and even did the cameo in CW's Crisis arc.

The Magicians has been cancelled by SYFY as we know but...

Seems like it will get a resonable finale. Exec Prod Sera Gamble “We had the sense going into this season that Syfy… was kind of hitting the point of ‘The cup is full and there’s no more room,’” and as such a fitting ending was crafted."

General Maximus 04-03-2020 12:42

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Great, it takes away the bitterness when they at least know it is coming and finish it off properly. I say this every year but i hate it when series get cancelled out of the blue when the current season has been filmed and left ooen ended or on a cliffhanger and there is no closure. Even though big bang is a comedy and you wouldnt care too much about "the story", they knew it was ending and i thought what they did for the characters was fantastic.

You're just nit picking. They were all basically financed by SyFy, and would not have existed without them, hence why (for example) The Expanse had to be picked up by Amazon after SyFy cancelled it (Same for the currently surviving Wynonna Earp). Its also the same for most other network shows, the networks "acquire" them from external companies, they dont directly make them.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Sad but not unexpected, Netflix often kills shows after 3 seasons.

Its not entirely clear why but speculation is that they sign the stars on initial 3 year contracts, so renewing a show past that requires new contracts, which generally costs more, but doesnt bring in enough new customers to cover those extra costs. (Yes, I did read that the 3 year 'rule' is denied as the reason in this case, but I take that with a large dose of salt).

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

not for me. When I saw it mentioned I looked up the trailer because I hadn't heard of it. The premise is good from a scifi point of view but the fact that it is a comedy spoils it for me. When they try to brush of potential serious moments with comedy it kills my realism factor. I would rather see how the people react to and deal with these situations and circumstances for the first time rather than trying to make a joke out of them.

Denzel Washington did the films. I am too young to have watched the "old" series :) I agree with Paul though, instead of trying to do a proper job they are going with PC and casting a black actress (either that or lgbt) and when the series gets cancelled it will be our fault as the audience.

Well yes I also love the current Magnum and I'm old enough to remember the original well but the point I was trying to make is how this political correctness is crazy with switching a male character from male to female. I also remember the dteadful remakes of Kojak and Ironside where the main charactor was switched from a white guy to a black guy.

Denzel Washington has done a good job with the films. Neither film are classics of the genre, but both are entertaining.

Regarding Magnum, I quite enjoyed the original. I like the new one. Tom Selleck was charming and entertaining as the original Magnum, and Jay Hernandez is similarly charming and entertaining as the new Magnum. I don't feel that the new Higgins is just an attempt to be PC. I think they've created a new character and given her the name, and job, of the original Higgins.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

It's pathetic. I know there is a correlation between race and arrests/prison population but it has deeper routers such as social inequality rather than direct racism. I will admit that the majority of people you see on Cops are black but that isn't because the police are going out of their way to arrest black people. They will pull over a car because it ran through a red light, flagged for no insurance, or a headlight isn't working or something and then when they pull it over they will either smell cannabis in the car, see a gun or the driver will have an outstanding warrant or something. You see some people pull the race card and say "you are doing this just because I am black" and I think "well if you fixed that headlight/paid your insurance/bothered to have a driving license/didn't run the red light...........(i.e. obeyed the law) then you wouldn't have been pulled over and you could have gone on your merry way and the police would have been none the wiser. It is just the same over here on Police Interceptors although I would say it is more white chavs but does that mean police are racist against whites? No.

Vagrant Queen cancelled by SyFy.

Why does that not surprise me.

It was passable, and certainly watchable.
SyFy seem to be killing off pretty much all their shows.

Once the final Van Helsing is done, there wont be much left I watch on it.
(I think Wynonna Earp will be it, and its still unclear if thats going to get a 5th season).

Never seen it. Only thing I'm currently watching on Syfy at present is Spides. Expect that will be cancelled next.

CW have cancelled Katy Keene, although they are currently shopping it around for any other takers.
HBO Max are considered a possibility, they have until the end of July before actors contracts expire.

DC's Stargirl renewed for second season.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Not surprising, they'll renew DC's Poo as long it increases the number of concurrent series on tv. To be fair though, I am liking Stargirl more than Arrow and Supergirl atm. I just hope they stick with the comic and fantasy story line and don't start ramming cultural issues down our throat.

Haave to agree with you there.Surprisingly it wasn't renewed by DC Universe but The CW. Season 2 won't be on DC Universe.

I'm agreeing with you again I certainly enjoyed it as well.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Never seen it. It is one of those series I thought I might get round to if I ever ran out of things to watch. You might think now would be the perfect time for it given that we are in the summer tv season and the disruption to production coronavirus has caused but it is quite the opposite. I have really enjoyed having the time to watch series I enjoyed in the past and thought I would never have the time to watch again. As the fall tv schedule has been pushed back to January I am hoping to watch 24, Lost and Heroes again.

As a side note as we are talking about witchy stuff, has anyone ever given The Order a go? That is another one on my list of potentials.

Hopefully it has a proper ending at least. I've only see first season, but I won't catch up if I know it doesn't have an ending.

Yep, halfway through Season 2 atm, another good series.

You should watch some of these instead of oldies. :)

War of the Worlds has been renewed for a second season. I think it is the frenchified version and not the BBC one.
